Germany Says Mabuhay to Celebrate 60 Years of Friendship with the Philippines

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It was a weekend of celebration that allowed attendees to experience Germany up close and personal in the heart of Metro Manila. Several booths from both sponsors and exhibitors lined up along the stretch of Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City (BGC) to celebrate two days of exciting festivities dubbed as "Mabuhay Germany".

German food like grilled sausages with potato salad, cabbage and schnitzel with Bavarian beers, home-made desserts, cakes and cookies plus other highlights of Germany were showcased last February 22 and 23 to celebrate the 60th year of friendship between the Philippines and Germany.

Each booth had fabulous giveaways and contests that will allow you to win prizes easily. There was a game in one of the booths where you have to spot the differences between two almost identical photos, another booth has a game that will make you guess the word based from a photo and an incomplete word, one booth will require you to hit all the cans using just two balls to win a prize, another one will ask you to shoot golf balls in a miniature golf course, there was even a card game that will make you guess if the next card in the series is higher or lower in number, plus lots of other fun games available in all the booths. I went home with an eco-friendly bag full of souvenirs.

In the past five years, the number of German companies in the Philippines has steadily increased so I guess it won't hurt if you learn how to speak the language. Goethe Institut Philippines hosted a panel discussion titled "Learn German and Land a Job" which mainly shares that its an advantage for job-seekers at German companies to land a job easily if they know how to speak the language fluently.

The discussion was followed by a song and dance competition promoting German culture in the Philippines. It was participated by mostly students coming from different universities.

There were also a lot of Kids Activities with Mad Science from the Mind Museum, plus lots of games both kids and adults will enjoy.

Several food concessionaires were also there to provide you authentic taste of German delicacies.

German company Volkswagen was also there to exhibit their latest car model. Too bad I was not able to test-drive it. That would have been a blast!

Later that night, guests were treated with an all-night party called "Groovy Doovy Germany Night". It was a night filled with overflowing beer and exciting rock music featuring artists like Authority Band and DJ Papi.

The second day of the two-day event was also filled with equally exciting activities. There was the Executives Band serenading guests with both German and Filipino songs, the German European School Manila performed a hip hop dance. The winner of the Mabuhay Germany Photo Contest was also announced later that afternoon.

Two days were simply not enough to be able to enjoy all of the activities being offered at the event. There was a lot about Germany that you need to know more about and that is by actually visiting the country to explore its beauty and meet its people.
