My Top 5 Indie Games of 2013

Wazzup Pilipinas!

First things first, as per Wikipedia, "independent video games (commonly referred to as indie games) are video games created by individuals or a small team (of developers) generally without the (huge) video game publishers' financial support. Indie games often focus on innovation and rely on digital distribution."

The indie gaming industry has a constantly growing interest and popularity. More and more people are taking indie games seriously as an alternative source of entertainment that was previously provided by the mainstream gaming industry.

There were so many indie games released last year that 2013 was really the year where the independent game developer truly arrived. The best part is that they were truly delivering - meaning most of the indie games that came out were top-notch at their level. You'll definitely enjoy a majority of them and be surprised at how great they are compared to the ones backed up by a huge brand.

That said, with a drum roll, here are the 5 most compelling indie games of the past year.

5.Surgeon Simulator

Surgeon simulator is a really difficult game. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I really enjoyed playing it. It is hardly a simulation since the method of surgery is completely unrealistic. The player controls each of the surgeon’s fingers individually, and the game’s wacky physics make it easy to knock over objects and destroy vital organs easily. Good thing that these patients are virtual, because even in the case of “successful” surgeries, they’d never survive.

4.Imscared

This short and simple horror game from Ivan Zanotti puts you in a dark corridor and asks you to explore a bit, gathering keys in order to gain access to different rooms. This game had so much suspense; you'd think you had reached the end, when it was actually just something false! The jumpscares were really unexpected, which added to the thrilling experience while playing. This is still one of my favorite indie horror games.

3.Paper,Please

Papers, Please is a puzzle video game developed by indie game developer Lucas Pope, set in the fictional country of Arstotzka, you take the role of an immigration inspector at a border checkpoint. You must look over documents and use various tools in order to keep spies, smugglers and other unwanted bad people out of the country all while on the clock. On top of this you have to make enough money to support your family and survive yourself. Many people wouldn't consider Papers,Please a fun game, but I did enjoyed playing it. It was absolute brilliant and was worth playing

2. Kentucky Route Zero

Kentucky Route Zero is an adventure game, developed and published by Cardboard Computer. It begins with Conway, a truck driver, works as a delivery man for an antique shop owned by a woman named Lysette. Being hired to make a delivery to 5 Dogwood Drive, Conway travels the roads of Kentucky with his dog to locate the address. After searching around, Conway elaborates that he is lost and stops off by an old, pitch-black gas station, "Equus Oils".Kentucky Route Zero is basically a simple adventure game, but it's so achingly well put-together that it really becomes an experience like no other.

1. The Stanley Parable

The Stanley Parable is an interactive fiction modification built on the Source game engine, developed by Davey Wreden and released in July 2011. Playing as Stanley, you find yourself one morning in your office job only to find everyone has vanished. All you have is a path ahead of you and a narrator in your head. Choosing whether to abide or rebel against the voice is up to you, but thanks to the game's short story structure, you can complete a story line and hop right back in from the beginning compelling you try every possibility.

So these are the indie games I enjoyed playing last year. What are yours? Comment below so i can read it.

  1. I like this article since I love playing games especially with great story lines or just for plain fun. If you're a fan of indie games, I highly suggest playing Gone Home since the plot is pretty cool. BTW I'm currently playing Paper, Please. Just saying~

  2. A good option, although I also like assetto corsa and similar racing games. Moreover, there is an opportunity to use assetto corsa mods and try to ride on, for example, Aston Martin 2020. This is a cool solution.
