Team Suzuki Pilipinas Honored at Victory Party

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Congratulations to Team Suzuki Pilipinas, namely April King Mascardo, Eane Jay Sobredo and Mario Borbon Jr., for their outstanding record-breaking wins at the previous races held in different countries in Asia. You made us Filipinos proud again for having talented fellow Filipinos who could easily outwit and stand out among the other races in international competitions.

In honor of the three, Suzuki Philippines held a victory party at the F1 Hotel on June 16 to celebrate the magnificent wins of these three motorcycle riders representing the Philippines.

With the Indonesians identified as their toughest competitor, Team Suzuki Pilipinas would want to come up with a strategy to prevent further "targeting" by the said competitor. At a video playback shown at the victory party, we saw how one of the members of Team Suzuki Pilipinas was boxed in so he won't get the chance to lead the race. However, it was fortunate that our team never lost the determination to succeed no matter how the competition is seemingly becoming unfairly aggressive.

The night was filled with music and beer after the short program led by Hiroshi Suzuki and the rest of Suzuki Philippines. We had a short interview with Hiroshi San and also with Team Suzuki Pilipinas so watch out for them in our YouTube channel at http://www.YouTube.com/user/wazzuppilipinas

SPARTA now has 3 gyms that fitness enthusiasts can choose from or alternately go to - 360 Pro, Sparta Calisthenics Academy (SCA) and now, Alpha Strength.

Alpha Strength owner Aaron dela Cruz, also known as Coach A, is a US Certified Level 1 Weightlifting Coach and also a certified Life Coach. He was also a Gold Medalist in 2013 and 2011, for the Philippine National Raw Powerlifting Competition.

According to Coach A, "We're all about making people stronger, because if you're stronger, everything becomes easier."

Alpha Strength offers Power Lifting, Olympic Weight Lifting and Fitness Classes.

“At Alpha Strength, you are not just forced to do reps, you are made to do things at your own pace. The number of work and the number of sets is up to you, it would depend on what you can handle. Compared to other gyms, we are really strength-based”, Coach A says.

He says, “As a small kid and I just felt I needed to be stronger. That's how I started getting into power lifting. That's how I built my character as I got stronger.”

As to what makes Alpha Strength stand out from other gyms, Coach A says, “First, we help people get stronger. We help them reach fitness goals. We offer different methods to attain one’s goals. We are also about changing people's lives, we help people reach goals thru strength.”

Globe, PLDT Sign Agreement on IP Peering to Improve Internet Experience of Customers

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The photo above shows Globe President & CEO Ernest Cu, Globe Chief Technology & Information Officer Gil Genio, Sen. Bam Aquino, PLDT Director Atty. Ray Espinosa and PLDT EVP and Head of EICB Eric Alberto, all now hoping to make a great change on the way we experience surfing the Internet.

Philippine telecommunications operators Globe Telecom and PLDT made another positive step at improving internet services for its millions of customers through a bilateral IP peering arrangement that will make downloading/uploading of web content faster and more efficient.

Globe and PLDT signed a memorandum of agreement today, which will serve as a preamble to a formal peering agreement between the two parties. The agreement provides for the two companies to implement a bilateral domestic peering within 30 days. A formal peering agreement is set to be signed by both companies within 90 days. Senator Bam Aquino witnessed the MOA signing.

“After six years of actively advocating for an IP peering, Globe welcomes PLDT’s decision to have a meaningful and applicable IP peering arrangement with us. We are happy with this landmark development considering the benefits to our customers in terms of internet experience,” said Gil Genio, Globe Chief Technology and Information Officer. “With an effective domestic internet peering in place, Globe customers will gain direct access to content and applications hosted by PLDT data centers and vice-versa. We are confident that this agreement will redound to a better experience on internet services benefitting customers of both parties and the country as a whole,” he added.

Dutertismo Should Address—Not Contribute to— the Climate of Impunity

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In an effort to prevent rhetoric from becoming reality in respecting rights, here is a Statement of Concern from the Foundation for Media Alternatives (FMA):

Though it is still two weeks before President-elect Rodrigo Duterte is formally proclaimed as the country’s next Chief Executive and Commander-in-Chief, his electoral victory has been apparent early on, just a few days after the close of the May 9th polls.

His victory is unprecedented in many ways, and there will be another time to assess his landslide victory for its substance as well as its symbolic value. But for now, it may be time to investigate his recent rhetoric and how it relates to how this hints of an emergent reality where human rights may be under threat.

It could be argued that any words and actions emanating from Mr. Duterte as presumptive President are not yet technically “official” statements. However given the nature of his eventual office, and the gravity of the themes being addressed, his words even now are—and should be—received as signals of what is to become. Using an IT-based metaphor, his past statements hint at a sort of “source code” for the “operating system” of his incoming Administration. Supporters of the President-elect assume just as much: “This is who Duterte is, and what you see is what you get”.

Many citizens of goodwill do assume that an initial public familiarization period with any new leader—especially one as unorthodox as him—deserves some time. Surely, some leeway for a “honeymoon period” is expected between the President-elect and the nation, even for skeptics or non-supporters who have always been uncomfortable with his alleged link to local death squads and summary executions in Davao.

Globe Fires Up 130 Sites Using the 2600 MHz Spectrum in Visayas, Mindanao

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Globe Telecom continue to charge ahead and utilized company's additional allocation in the 2600 MHz spectrum for 130 sites in Visayas and Mindanao, providing customers in those regions with additional network capacities to support growing demand for bandwidth.

The company’s additional allocation in the 2600 MHz band forms part of the resources that Globe recently acquired following a joint purchase of San Miguel Corp.’s telecommunication assets.

Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Program Governance, Network Technical Group, said the company is planning to use the 2600 MHz band in more sites in line with efforts to immediately put to use frequencies that were previously underutilized to improve the broadband data experience of its customers.

The 2600MHz spectrum is well placed for increasing network capacities using the state-of-the art LTE technology. While lower frequencies such as the 700MHz band provide better signal penetration and offering stronger indoor coverage, the higher frequencies, such as the 2600MHz band, provide additional capacity for broadband data, Agustin said.

“This is particularly beneficial for our customers especially since they now demand more bandwidth capacities in light of their growing inclination for multi-media content. In fact, to fully realize the benefits of the 2600 MHz frequency, the 130 sites where we deployed the additional spectrum is just an initial rollout and we plan to fire up a substantial number of our sites in this band,” he said.

According to Agustin, Globe will also continue to rollout the Carrier Aggregation technology by using the company's spectrum allocations. An important component of the LTE-Advanced, the Carrier Aggregation technology will provide higher peak data rates and better broadband data experience, he said. Globe acquired half of San Miguel’s assets in an effort to harmonize spectrum assets and unlock the benefits of underutilized frequencies previously held by San Miguel.

Finding Dory Can Inspire People to See Fish in the Wild – Not Bring Them Home

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Here are 3 ways to save Nemo & Dory if ever people will suddenly want to bring home the equivalent fish types that the characters represent.

It was found out from the previous showing of the Finding Nemo movie that a great number of people wanted to have their very own clown fish or more popularly known now as "Nemo" as their very own pet. Thus the movie inspired people to do the opposite of what the movie tried to send across.

The article below shares an incredible story that almost caused the probable "extinction" of the clown fish - that's actually me exaggerating but still you have to admit that there is some truth from it.

Please read on and enjoy, and hopeful, the Finding Dory movie won't have the same negative effect that would make our fellow beings desire to have a "Dory," or a Regal Tang, for their aquarium.

We all love to have a very colorful aquarium but it is not so appealing to see fishes being used as decorations to provide entertainment or as household pets.

Taking care of fishes are more delicate than having a cat or dog so not everybody can be a responsible owner of an aquarium filled with different species of fishes.

Philippines Men’s National Team Aiming Higher Under Head Coach Thomas Dooley

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Since Thomas Dooley was appointed Head Coach, the Philippines men’s national soccer (football) team has had some impressive results and attained its highest ever FIFA ranking. Aiming even higher and with an objective to achieve a finals appearance in the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup followed by qualification for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup the Philippines Football Federation recently rewarded Dooley with a two-year contract extension.

In addition to the skills, knowledge and experience the former United States team captain has brought to the role, a major addition having a direct impact on the team’s improvement has been his implementation of new systems and technology. This has included California-based Match Analysis’s state of the art video and statistical analysis product suite that has successfully been adopted by the Azkals.

The new and more in depth analysis program provides coaching staff and players with access to Mambo Studio and Tango Online. These cutting edge tools enable them to collectively or autonomously analyze performance as part of their development. They also receive individual meetings where they review their own data and video clips along with team meetings during which:

1. Opponents are analyzed to discuss expected line-ups, along with video clips reviewed of individual players to identify strengths and weaknesses and what to expect from their opponents

2. The Azkals players are shown video clips to improve knowledge and provide a greater insight into the tactical aspect of the game

5 Reasons to Love the Limited Edition Sonix Anahaw Case

Wazzup Pilipinas!

A cute case can easily brighten up your mood and elevate your style. Take it from actress and social media star Sofia Andres who just adores her collection of ‘functionable’ (read: functional + fashionable) iPhone cases from Los Angeles-based brand Sonix.

If you’re following her Instagram feed, you’ll see that among Sofia’s favorites is the limited edition Anahaw case, a design collaboration between Sonix and Power Mac Center. Here are reasons why you’ll love it too:

It was designed with a national symbol in mind.
The Anahaw is a tropical palm widely regarded as the Philippine national leaf. Often planted for ornamental purposes, it is also made into fans, hats, and umbrellas, exemplifying the resourcefulness and creativity of Filipinos. Its symbol is used in awards and medals to signify high achievement, strength, and loyalty. Independence Day feels, that is.

It’s both functional and stylish.
The Sonix Anahaw case features a transparent back, perfect for showing off your iPhone’s sleek design. It has an impact-resistant bumper and raised rubber edges that protect against dings and scratches, yet remains slim and lightweight. It also allows access to all ports with easy press button coverage.

It’s unique.
In a sea of florals and loud patterns, it’s refreshing to see minimalist designs that do stand out from the crowd. The Sonix Anahaw case complements any #OOTD while giving your phone personality.

It’s from a global brand trusted by ‘It’ girls.
Any celebs spotted with their Sonix cases, you ask? Check out Gigi Hadid and Kylie Jenner rocking their favorite style.

It’s limited edition.
Power Mac Center holds the exclusive rights for the sale and distribution of the Sonix Anahaw case. It’s available for the iPhone 6/6s and iPhone 6 plus/6s plus and retails at P1, 800 in Power Mac Center stores nationwide. Need we say more? Get it before it’s gone!

Sonix is an LA-based global brand specializing in distinctively cool fashion accessories for the style conscious girl. It has been around since 2010, creating products that are statement pieces in themselves but are made to withstand daily wear and tear. Sonix products made an appearance at the recently concluded 20th Philippine Fashion Week. Sonix has an exclusive partnership with Power Mac Center for its Filipino customers. More information may be obtained from Power Mac Center’s 26 branches or at <www.powermaccenter.com>.

5 Sure Signs That You Are in Love with Her

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The guys from our editorial office decided to throw a movie night and let girls choose the films. Stereotypically, girls went on with cheesy romantic comedies. However, one of them was quite an intriguing picture – Intuition with my all-time-favorite British beauty, Kate Beckinsale. The thing is that main heroes were led by some kind of serendipity so that, in the end, they met again and became a couple. Of course, they could not know from scratch that thing would turn out that way. This movie made me think about how people can really understand if they love someone or not. In collaboration with my friends from Dating Ladies Site, we made up a list of sure signs that you are in love with a girl – in case if you cannot understand your feelings.

You are imagining your future life together

When you are young, thinking about tomorrow and building long-term life expectations and plans seems like terrible activities. However, since you met the girl you are really into, these actions no longer seem exhausting and irritating. You gradually become more used to thinking about your future house, children’s names, how many dogs you want to have etc. Just give it a shot: close your eyes and imagine yourself growing old alongside with your current girlfriend. Voila!

You are not interested in other women anymore

When I was twenty, I used to date this girl from my art studio. She was absolutely gorgeous and we had a lot in common. Nonetheless, I still remained in touch with a few other female friends – just in case something goes wrong with my “pivotal” relationship. That is how your actions do NOT look like when you are truly in love. You should be 100% into your girlfriend. For sure, other women are still attractive and good-looking but only the one you love makes your heart beat faster.

You are willing to change for her

Men do not like to change themselves. Moreover, they hate it even more when someone tries to change them. However, if you feel that you eagerly want to fit your partner and, therefore, change something about yourself or your life – it must be love! The toughest decisions are related to lifestyle changes. For instance, your girlfriend might ask you to stop partying all the time and become more of a home-type person. If you are ready for such metamorphosis, the love train must be waiting for you. Settling down is not that frightening, guys! Eventually, it will become the most wanted lifestyle.

You prioritize her above your own needs

I thought it would be exciting to talk about how you love her imperfections. But then I understood there were more significant things to say. Continuing our talk about earnest readiness to change yourself, we bring it to a new lever. In the patriarchal society (which the Western world really is), when a man downsizes his needs to prove his affection – it might be the perfect demonstration of his sincere feelings. Are you ready to give up some of your priorities to make your woman happy? If so, you are without doubt fond of her.

How Much Monthly Salary You Need to Afford a House in 10 PH Cities

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Planning to buy a home? Check out whether your current salary could buy you a house in these 10 cities and municipalities in the Philippines

Ever wondered how much monthly salary you should be earning in order to afford a house in different cities and municipalities in the Philippines?

Global property website Lamudi Philippines looked into its May 2016 listings data and see the average prices of homes in different cities in the Philippines. With these averages, we used the 2.5 rule to determine how much monthly salary you should be earning in order to afford a home in these places.

The 2.5 rule works like this: the cost of the home you can afford is 2.5 times your annual salary.

But this approach is only a general guideline. Although many financial experts highly recommend not buying a home that’s more than this, some people’s lifestyle may be able to let them afford a slightly more expensive property (for example, childless couples or singletons), while others who have higher monthly expenses should consider spending on a much cheaper property.

However, as general as it is, the 2.5 rule allows us to gauge the housing market. By knowing how much you can afford, you can determine how far your income can take you based on Lamudi’s average house prices in 10 cities and municipalities in the Philippines.

Pangilinan Unveils New Logos of PLDT and Smart

Wazzup Pilipinas!

On June 13, 2016 at Makati Shangri-La Hotel, PLDT & Smart Chairman & CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan officially unveils the new logos of PLDT and Smart, reflecting the Group's digital pivot and shift to data-driven services.

PLDT and Smart's logos appear similar, except PLDT is red and Smart is green. It symbolizes the convergence of the two brands, combining fixed and wireless technologies to better serve customers. They are shaped like a triangle, which supposedly represents the companies' business pillars: exceptional people, meaningful innovations and valuable customers.

There is a huge difference with having a strong brand image and actually communicating that brand image. In this case, nobody understands it even with their rationale.

From the brand perspective, it is indeed stronger than the previous logo. From the creative perspective, this is so common and the shape and color combination have a resemblance too. It just so happens that the green and red have meaning when you combine them with the triangle. Final verdict, it's noit the best logo of the brands but it works somehow.

We really don't care about your logos! The real change we want is for you to make your data service faster. That's what we're asking from you guys and not changing the logos or something trivial. What good are the new logos if you still have the same bad service and infrastructure?

So in the coming days, we hope you fulfill your promise of providing betetr service and to moderate your greed since you're huge already anyway, you don't need to grow bigger and it's time you share your blessings to your customers who have been suffering from the duopoly of these telcos.

ToyCon Philippines 2016: When Toy Conventions Become Too Expensive for Real Kids

Wazzup Pilipinas!
"Toycon this year is so messed up. Got 2 VIPs for me and my wife, expecting that we will feel like "VIPs". Unfortunately, we didn't feel special at all.

Day 1 was chaos. The supposed 11am early access to the event didn't happen. 10am line outside, 11am registration, 1230 start to go inside. the staff don't know what to do. They were just standing without a clue what their role is to the event. Exhibits are not yet complete.
(The Voltes V statue was still incomplete with only two legs on display)

Day 2 During photo ops/ autograph signing, nobody knows what line they are in. Some people who are not VIP or Legendary are
also in the line. This should be the job of the staff, to make crowd control and organize everything (bring a megaphone if needed and put more barriers, have a staff meeting before the event, just have a plan). The staff are like ducklings all together waiting for their mother duck to give them orders. We didn't get to have our photo taken with Hodor because we got cut off.
Overall, this years Toycon is a mess. Its more of a Popcon. If you are a Funko pop collector, this is perfect for you. You can buy exclusive pops at SRPs. But if you are into the guests, you should stay inside the convention from opening to closing because nobody knows what is the REAL time they will come. If you are a toy collector, just go to Greenhills because there's more toys there to choose from.
This is just a learning experience for us fans, for the event organizers, and for the staff. If the system will improve then it's a good thing. But if they will not learn from their mistakes and improve, this will be our family's last Toycon." - Evans Nolasco
The Philippine Toys, Hobbies and Collectibles Convention, or ToyCon,organized by Collectibles Unlimited, aimed to hit hard this year with the most anticipated gathering of toy distributors, gamers, pop memorabilia collectors and cosplay enthusiasts this side of the planet. However, there seems to be a lot of complaints from the attendees this year who claimed they did  not get their money's worth.

With so many complaining mostly about the pricey tickets or expensive event passes, and how it was probably made that high because of the additional guests, which sadly made it more like a Popcon rather than a Toycon.

#RP612fic: What If Pinoy Heroes Are Still With Us Right Now

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Filipinos online celebrated Independence Day creatively again as they post witty tweets on Twitter this June 12, 2016 putting our real life Filipino or Pinoy "Bayanis" or Heroes living today as among the millennials or depicting what they would probably be posting or texting if ever they are living with us during these times.

From our national hero Jose Rizal, to the rest like Juan Luna, Apolinario Mabini, Andres Bonifacio, Marcela Agoncillo, Emilio Aguinaldo, Padre Damaso, etc.

However, some have even included fictional characters like mother and sons Sisa, Crispin and Basilio, as well as president-elect Rodrigo "DU30" Duterte as among the characters conversing with these Filipino heroes.

Paintings like the Spolarium were not spared also as these imaginative netizens came up with humorous captions that will surely put a smile on your face, if not making you laugh out loud or rolling on the floor laughing like a loony.

June 12 is never a sad day as these jokes kept on coming until this moment of writing. We would love to put everything here but that would be too much and we would want to save you from dying because of too much pain laughing.

Adam Levine Reveals Secret to His Confidence

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Adam Levine of Maroon 5 is the newest celebrity endorser of Proactiv Philippines. Let us share to you his Proactiv story so you would be inspired.

For those who do not know Adam Levine, he is the lead singer of the Grammy Award winning band, Maroon 5, and has made a name for himself with a signature voice that is sure to sweep women off their feet. Maroon 5’s releases have gone gold and platinum, setting records for most #1 singles and he’s been a judge on the Emmy Award-winning The Voice. He also starred in the indie film Begin Again, where his 222 Records label track Lost Stars was nominated for a Best Original Song at the Academy Awards.

While most women are swooned by the “Sexiest Man Alive” of 2013 with his hot looks and remarkable talent, men also aspire for the same kind of charisma and confidence that he evokes. Little do they know that like most of us, Adam Levine struggled to regain confidence during his teenage years. He suffered from severe acne breakouts, which took away much of his confidence and forced him to stay away from the crowd.

“I was just ashamed of my acne,” Adam shared. “I had horrible breakouts. I would hide from cameras, hide in my room. Acne just shows up and causes trouble and it messes with my confidence.” And even today, when his schedule gets busy, the stress can take a toll on his skin. “I am a very active person and it kind of lead to zits, which is unfortunate but a reality for me,” he chuckled.

“My life for now is unbelievably busy and I feel fortunate and blessed every day,” Adam said. He also shared that unlike most people’s belief about celebrities having to look so good on screen or otherwise, they also suffer from the same skin problems that make many people lose their self-confidence and hide away from many of the good things in life. “I always want to make sure that people understand that even though we are celebrities or successful, we are no different than anybody else.”

With the acquisition of AccelOps, Fortinet extends its Security Fabric to address these challenges by combining security and compliance monitoring with advanced analytics for multi-vendor security solutions, enabling automated and actionable security intelligence from IoT to the cloud.” - Ken Xie, founder, chairman of the board and chief executive officer, Fortinet

Fortinet, the global leader in high-performance cyber security solutions, today announced its acquisition of AccelOps, a leading provider of network security monitoring and analytics solutions. AccelOps solutions will become FortiSIEM and become part of the Fortinet Security Fabric. This will provide customers with greater visibility across both Fortinet and multi-vendor security solutions, thereby enabling more comprehensive end-to-end network segmentation strategies, from IoT to cloud. Security correlation and analytics results will feed directly into the Security Fabric allowing automated threat prevention.

Next Generation Security Information and Event Management, or Next Gen SIEM, capabilities from AccelOps coupled with FortiGuard Labs global threat intelligence and third-party threat feeds will be integrated into the Fortinet Security Fabric. Perks of Being a Digital Artist

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Art is such an amazing, diverse, and powerful thing since it serves as a medium for people to express themselves with passion and emotion. The term "art" encompasses countless kinds and forms, ranging from traditional drawing, poetry and drama to slightly different fields like graffiti, food art, and with the dawn of advanced technology, there's digital art.

Digital art makes use of a drawing tablet connected to a computer, which unlocks more features that are beyond the limits of traditional drawing, such as having numerous custom brushes and settings at your disposal and the whole color wheel as your palette. Having said that, every form of art has its own advantages and disadvantages; it just depends on the person and what medium of art they find best.

Anyway, ever since my dad gave me a drawing tablet last May 20, 2015, I've been exploring the world of digital art and I grow more familiar whenever I get to use it. Now that I think about it, some of the benefits I've had being a digital artist were:
