How To Boost Sales By Understanding Buying Intent

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

You've probably heard the term 'buying intent' floating around sales and marketing circles, yet many businesses fail to fully understand and utilise this crucial concept. As an effective means to predict potential customers' next move, understanding buying intent could be the key to smashing your sales targets. Not only can it help refine your marketing strategy, but it can also aid in optimizing your resources. Keep reading to see how buying intent can transform your sales efforts.

Understanding Buying Intent To Catapult Sales

First and foremost, what does 'buying intent' really mean? In layman's terms, buying intent refers to the probability that a consumer will purchase a product or service. By understanding this aspect, businesses can more accurately predict and influence purchasing decisions. By studying visiting behavior on your website or analyzing keyword searches, you can gauge a customer's level of Buying Intent. These insights allow you to focus marketing efforts on leads most likely to convert, thus maximizing profitability. Monitoring how clients interact with your business can reveal their buying intent. For example, a customer who inquiries about specific services exhibits a higher buying intent than someone just browsing. Understanding buying intent requires tools and expertise. Intelligent platforms with predictive analytics and machine-learning abilities can aid in this process drastically, making it more straightforward than ever before to discern who's likely to make a purchase.

The Direct Relationship Between Sales and Customer Buying Intent

There is a direct and significant correlation between sales and understanding buying intent. Once businesses comprehend a customer's intent, they can personalise their approach, leading to increased satisfaction and a higher likelihood of closure. Consider a business that accurately discerns customer buying intent, knowing when and what the customer will buy. Such insight can decrease lead conversion times, reduce marketing costs, and streamline the sales process. Furthermore, by knowing customer tendencies, proactive adjustments can be made to ensure stock availability, thus removing potential hurdles in the purchasing process. Misjudged buying intentions can lead to extravagant marketing spending with little return on investment or even a dwindling customer base due to perceived harassment. Alternately, understanding buying intent can bolster sales success, fostering lucrative, lasting customer relationships. Coupling buying intent understanding with an effective customer relationship management system can create a potent blend for sales growth. The ability to target customers with high buying intent increases conversion rates and customer satisfaction, thereby driving sales.

Techniques for Harnessing Buying Intent To Drive Sales Growth

To fully capitalize on buying intent, businesses must actively track and analyze customer behavior. Utilizing predictive analytics and AI, businesses can discern patterns and continually refine their understanding of customer buying intent. A customer who frequently visits a page or product category on your website is likely to have a high buying intent. Directing targeted advertising and personalized offers towards these individuals can prompt them into action, turning browsing into buying. CRM systems prove advantageous in managing and analyzing customer behavior. Advanced platforms can provide valuable insights into buying intent, allowing businesses to segregate their potential customers based on buying intent levels. This segmentation can further streamline marketing strategy, aiding in personalized campaigns and budget allocation.

Businesses can also leverage content marketing based on buying intent. Blogs and articles that answer common customer queries or provide in- depth product information can satisfy potential customers in the research phase, making them likely to convert. Altogether, understanding buying intent can provide a significant edge in today's competitive market. By recognizing the signals that indicate a customer is ready to purchase, businesses can hone their marketing strategies and tailor their offerings, leading to increased sales and customer satisfaction. Real-world examples from companies like Amazon, Best Buy, and Netflix highlight the power and potential that understanding buying intent holds.

Advocates launch Media Guide and ‘Visibility is Key’ Campaign Empowering Stories on HIV

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

In observance of World AIDS Day on December 1, a network of advocates on Wednesday launched a media guide on HIV that will help Filipino journalists and media outlets produce ‘truthful, empowering, and human rights-based’ reporting on the issue. HIV stands for the human immunodeficiency virus.

‘Empowered Stories: Media Guide on HIV Reporting’ contains up-to-date information about HIV in the Philippines as an effort to encourage members of the media to veer away from sensationalized reporting.

“Sensationalizing and assuming shame in HIV reporting prevent people from getting tested and availing treatment,” said Anastacio Marasigan, President of TLF SHARE Collective, Inc., one of the organizations behind the media guide.

In the latest data released by the Department of Health- Epidemiology Bureau, the country posted the fastest growing HIV epidemic in Asia and the Pacific region with a 418% change in new infections between 2010 and 2022 and 518% change in AIDS-related deaths between the same period. There are now an estimated 164,400 people living with HIV in the country and 24,400 new infections are estimated to be added in 2022 alone, and nearly half (47%) are among the youth ages 15-24 years old.

“Public conversations surrounding HIV should inform the public of the latest developments and equip them, especially the youth, with accurate information to protect themselves,” he added.

‘Visibility is Key’

The media guide is part of the larger ‘Visibility is Key’ campaign, together with a series of videos featuring PLHIVs from different backgrounds. “The campaign seeks to break down barriers by putting a spotlight on the lives of courageous individuals who have been living with HIV and leading the country’s HIV response,” said Dr. Louie Ocampo, Country Director of UNAIDS Philippines.

“Persons living with HIV can lead healthy and happy lives and can contribute to nation-building,” he added. “Highlighting their stories will dispel misconceptions, foster empathy, and create an environment of acceptance.”

Letting communities be seen and lead

Mara Quesada, Executive Director of Action for Health Initiatives, Inc. (ACHIEVE), said that it will be difficult to address the rising incidence of HIV in the country without the meaningful participation of affected communities in decision-making processes, including in development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of HIV programs and services.

“Understanding the realities faced by affected communities helps ensure that the national HIV response is relevant and effective. It is time to let communities be seen and lead. It is time to change genres in storytelling about HIV from horror stories into stories of hope. We need a stronger stance against stigma and discrimination,” she added.

“Fostering a climate of openness for dialogue and education is the media’s unique contribution to achieving a world without AIDS by 2030,” Dr. Ocampo also said.

CHRISTMAS ALERT: Kiddie bouncy and squeaky plastic toys sold in local markets contain toxic chemicals

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

With Christmas fast approaching and shoppers gearing up for their gift-giving, safe toy advocate BAN Toxics issued a warning to the public concerning the sale of bouncy (also known as inflatable hoppers) and squeaky plastic toys that might contain toxic chemicals. Chlorinated paraffins are widely used in various plastics, especially in children’s toys, and pose severe health risks. They have been linked to liver and kidney damage, disruptions in the endocrine system, potential cancer risks, developmental brain impairments, and threats to reproductive health.

Recent market surveillance conducted by BT Patrollers revealed the sale of these risky toys in stores along Baclaran, Pasay City. The bouncy toys were priced between Php 300-350, while the squeaky plastic toys ranged from Php 60-150.

Short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs), utilized as flame retardants, adhesives, sealants, and secondary plasticizers, were banned globally under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants back in 2017.

A study published by the International Pollutants Elimination Network (IPEN) in October this year revealed alarming levels of these toxins in toys. Analysis conducted at a certified laboratory of the Institute of Food Analysis and Nutrition at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague, Czechia, confirmed that all plastic toys tested contained both SCCPs and MCCPs (Medium-Chain Chlorinated Paraffins). Concentrations of SCCPs ranged from 1-60,400 mg/kg., while MCCP concentrations varied from 1-73,800 mg/kg. The highest concentrations of both SCCPs and MCCPs (48,800 and 91,700 mg/kg) were found in inflatable plastic bouncing toys.

“The manufacture, sale, and use of these toxic chemicals in plastic toys should be prohibited in the Philippine market since it is already banned under the Stockholm Convention to prevent potential health risks to children,” said Thony Dizon, Toxics Campaigner of BAN Toxics.

Calling for immediate action, Dizon added, “We urge the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to take necessary measures to eliminate the use of SCCPs and MCCPs in plastic toys, safeguarding children from harmful exposure.”

As a signatory to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) since 2004, the Philippines is mandated to eliminate, restrict, and reduce the production, use, and trade of listed POP chemicals, which include SCCPs. This mandate also necessitates environmentally sound management of POP stockpiles and wastes.

The lack of adequate and proper labeling exacerbates the issue, given the widespread global production of chlorinated paraffins. This highlights the critical need for transparency and traceability in plastic product materials to facilitate informed decision-making throughout the product value chain.

“We urge our lawmakers to enact legislation prohibiting the use of toxic chemicals, especially in children’s products including toys. Transparency and traceability measures in the production of plastic toys are crucial. Banning the manufacture, sale, and use of these toxic substances is paramount to safeguarding children’s health and the environment,” BAN Toxics added.

PSCS, PHLPost invites public to visit “Stamps Bazaar”

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The Philippine Stamp Collectors Society (PSCS) in cooperation with the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) invites the public to join the “PSCS Stamps Bazaar” in celebration of 2023 National Stamp Collecting Month and the 256th Anniversary of the establishment of the Philippine Postal System on November 25, 2023 (Sat.) from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM to be held at the lobby of Quezon City Central Post Office located along NIA Road in Quezon City. Carrying the theme: “Affordable Stamps, Fun for Everyone”, stamp collectors in the Philippines will gather to reaffirm its support for the Post Office in propagating the enjoyable hobby of stamp collecting.

Open to the public, lots of raffles and fun-filled activities await those who will visit the event.

Veteran and young generations of stamp enthusiasts have proven that the popularity of stamps in everyday life of Filipinos has not disappeared even with the popularity of the internet.

“Whatever area of collecting you wish to collect; there is an enormous amount of information available to help you enjoy the hobby. The best place to start is by joining a stamp club. Online groups on messenger or viber can be reached anytime and real-time.

After reaching the first step, now you can try and decide which kinds of stamps or envelopes you'd like to collect”, Melai Macasero (Prince King Seville) said in a statement.

Philately or stamp collecting has been around for over a hundred years in the country and has enticed millions of people from all over the world. Postage stamps could be likened to a miniature art collection, library or museum of world icons.

Stamps are categorized into topics such as the environment, world cultural celebrities and national heritage, landscapes or animals, sports and heroism among others.

“Good luck, and remember—enjoy yourself, because the main reason for collecting stamps is for the fun of it”, Jorge Cuyugan, President, Philippine Stamp Collectors Society said.

Statute of Limitations and Timely Action

Understanding the statute of limitations for filing claims after an accident is pivotal. Adherence to these timelines would ensure one's eligibility for seeking compensation. Hence, swift action following an accident is crucial to safeguarding one's rights.

Being well-informed about post-accident procedures, seeking medical attention promptly, preserving evidence, and considering legal counsel are pivotal steps. Safeguarding one's rights and pursuing equitable compensation for injuries and damages incurred in an accident is paramount.

Select a skilled lawyer with a proven track record

Choosing the right personal injury lawyer is pivotal for a successful case. Look for an attorney with expertise in the specific type of injury, a solid track record of favorable settlements or verdicts, and a willingness to dedicate time to your case. Prioritize lawyers with clear communication skills who listen attentively and explain legal complexities in understandable terms. A compassionate yet assertive lawyer who prioritizes your best interests and understands the nuances of personal injury law will significantly increase your chances of obtaining fair compensation.

Moreover, seek a lawyer who operates on a contingency fee basis, ensuring payment only upon winning the case. Assess their accessibility and commitment to your case's progression, providing regular updates and responsiveness to queries. Conduct thorough consultations to gauge comfort levels and ensure alignment with the lawyer's approach and strategy for your particular situation.

Tree planting fulfills the environmental cause of the Spanish film fest PELÍCULA>Pelikula

Instituto Cervantes, the Embassy of Spain, Acciona and Haribon Foundation held a tree planting activity in Tanay, Rizal last November 21 as a fulfillment of the Pelicula en verde, the green initiative of the 22nd edition of the PELÍCULA>Pelikula Spanish Film Festival.

The tree planting activity was led by Spanish Ambassador Miguel Utray, Instituto Cervantes’ Director Javier Galván, Acciona Southeast Asia Director Rubén Camba, and Haribon Foundation’s Chairman Dante Ang. Also present in the ceremony were Rizal Province vice governor Reynaldo H. San Juan, DENR Assistant Secretary Arleigh Adorable, Tanay Rizal Municipal Administrator Jeffrey Pino, and Haribon COO Anna Rita Varona.

This initiative is a first for the PELÍCULA>Pelikula Spanish Film Festival, which is organized by Instituto Cervantes every October. For this year, in an effort to increase awareness on the importance of protecting our environment while at the same time complying with its mission to promote Hispanic culture, Instituto Cervantes created a pledge scheme wherein for every spectator of a film in the Pelicula en verde section, a tree will be planted.

Instituto Cervantes, the cultural arm of the Spanish Embassy, therefore collaborated with Haribon Foundation, an NGO dedicated to the conservation of natural resources, and among whose activities include tree planting, and Acciona, a leading Spanish company in the field of sustainable infrastructure and renewable energy, to sponsor the planting of the trees. Acciona’s Southeast Asia regional headquarters is in Metro Manila, with projects in construction and water in the Philippines including the Cebu cable-stayed bridge, Putatan II water treatment plant, and parts of the railway linking the town of Malolos with the Clark International Airport in support of efficient mobility towards a low carbon economy. Acciona’s advocacies are geared towards sustainability.

According to Ambassador Utray, one of the main concerns of Spanish society today is the protection of the environment. According to Director Javier Galván, “Through the powerful medium of cinema, the recent film festival was partly programmed to focus and highlight environmental films and issues. Culture is a catalyst of human relations, and Instituto Cervantes acted as a matchmaker between actors in the field of sustainability and the environment, such as Haribon and Acciona. This project is an example of how Spain and the Philippines are working hand in hand for a common concern that has no borders.”

VP Sara credits Filipino learners for inspiration of her first children’s book, Isang Kaibigan

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

As part of the 2023 Pambansang Buwan ng Pagbasa at Araw ng Pagbasa celebration, Vice President of the Philippines and Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) Sara Z. Duterte launched her first children’s book titled “Isang Kaibigan.”

VP-Secretary Duterte shared that the Filipino children inspired her to write her book and when she was invited for a book reading session, a close friend of hers noted that she should read books by Filipino authors.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa mga batang Pilipino because they gave me the inspiration to write the book [Isang Kaibigan],” VP-Sec. Duterte said.

Isang Kaibigan follows the story of Kwago and Loro and teaches how the power of true friendship can overcome even the toughest challenges that may befall anyone.

VP-Sec. Duterte first read Isang Kaibigan when she was invited to be the mystery reading ambassador of Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Central Elementary School in Davao, City as part of National Reading Month on November 11.

The official book launch was conducted during the culmination program of Araw ng Pagbasa as the VP-Secretary conducted a live reading session to selected Grade 3 learners of Esteban Abada Elementary School in Quezon, City last November 21, 2023.

“Ang pagbabasa ay nagpapalago ng inyong imahinasyon, nagpapalawak sa inyong kaalaman, at nagbibigay sa inyo ng kakayahan na makita ang mas malawak na posibilidad sa gitna ng inyong mga limitasyon. Tandaan, sa ating mga kabataan, na ang pagbabasa ay ang pintuan patungo sa isang maligaya at matatag na kinabukasan,” VP-Sec. Duterte reiterated.

Duterte also shared that she will soon donate copies of her book to the school libraries around the country.

The book was illustrated by Janina Simbillo and Joseph Caligner of the Public Affairs Service- Creative Media Unit of the Department.

Envi groups dismayed over hijack of plastics treaty negotiations by petrochem and plastics interests

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

As the third negotiations (INC3) for a global plastics treaty closed earlier this week, civil society organizations from different countries were disappointed over the seeming failure to move closer to a strong and binding global plastic agreement to end plastic pollution.

Plastic pollution has reached a critical global scale. Annually, over 280 million tonnes of short-lived plastic products are discarded, as reported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). An estimated 19-23 million tonnes of this waste seeps into aquatic ecosystems, relentlessly polluting lakes, rivers, and seas.

According to environmental justice group BAN Toxics, instead of endorsing a mandate for the initial draft, Member States chose to revise the Zero Draft, expanding it and making progress more difficult. The draft emerged after the second round of talks in Paris earlier this year, intended to facilitate the negotiations in formulating an international legal instrument. It was a balanced document with a range of views presented as options before the start of INC3.

“Petrochemical and plastics industry-leaning governments successfully undermined the talks by raising procedural objections, stalling the negotiations, and introducing low-ambition language to dilute the push for a globally binding agreement,” said Jam Lorenzo, research and policy officer of BAN Toxics currently in Nairobi. Lorenzo joined other civil society organizations, many coming from global networks such as the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA), the International Pollutants Elimination Network (IPEN), and the Break Free from Plastics (BFFP) movement.

Civil society strongly criticized the open-door policy accorded to the industry during the talks. As per the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) report, 143 lobbyists from the fossil fuel and chemical industries registered to attend INC-3. This group surpassed any national delegation or civil society organization in size and acquired significant access to government representatives worldwide.

Certain member states exerted considerable effort to weaken the directive for a treaty encompassing the full lifecycle of plastic, including its production, which starts at raw material extraction. They aim to concentrate solely on waste management strategies, asserting that the issue does not stem from plastic itself but from its management and disposal.

“Member States in the room have the moral obligation to prioritize planetary boundaries, human rights and just transition for fenceline communities and waste pickers. A handful of countries must not hold the planet hostage and prevent an ambitious treaty addressing the full life cycle of plastics, which starts at raw material extraction,” said Merrisa Naidoo, Plastics Campaigner at GAIA Africa.

All plastics are made of chemicals. More than 13,000 chemicals have been identified as associated with plastics and plastic production across a wide range of applications, based on UNEP studies. Some of these chemicals are toxic that harm human health and the environment.

Plastics production also significantly fuels the climate crisis. It is among the most energy-intensive manufacturing processes globally, deriving from fossil fuels like crude oil. In 2019 alone, plastics accounted for 1.8 billion metric tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, contributing 3.4% to the global total.

“The health and environmental impacts of plastics, especially problematic ones containing toxic materials and unnecessary single-use products, are being ignored in these discussions, and giant plastics and fossil fuel industries continue to promote false solutions, block scientific progress, and influence the negotiations with problematic definitions of key concepts such as reuse and circularity. The level of plastic production remains excessive,” Lorenzo said.

Member States failed to reach a consensus on intersessional work, resulting in the closure of INC-3 without a structured plan to address crucial elements of the treaty. These include the gradual elimination of hazardous chemicals, plastic polymers, and microplastics, as well as the expansion of reuse initiatives before the upcoming negotiations at INC-4. This setback will impede progress in advancing the treaty process during INC-4, according to the group.

“We anticipate fierce resistance in the coming negotiation against the call to reduce virgin plastic production, despite the undeniable truth that the plastics life cycle continues to bring harm. The combustion of fossil fuels stands as the primary driver of the climate crisis, its use exposes populations to harmful chemicals, and the management of plastic waste remains a globally significant health and environmental problem,” added Lorenzo.

“We need a systemic change in the global plastics economy and we must not be hindered by diversionary tactics and false solutions. We echo the calls of civil society groups from across the world to adhere to the zero-waste hierarchy by prioritizing reduction and reuse before recycling. A fair and equitable transition is necessary so that wealthier countries and major polluters take responsibility for the disproportionate mess they have created,” Lorenzo concluded.

BAN Toxics is collaborating closely with various civil society organizations in the region and globally, gearing up for the INC-4 in Canada next April, aiming for a plastics treaty that advocates human rights and environmental justice. #

Flawless Face & Body Clinic continues to redefine personal success through the art of self-care

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

There was a time when it was unthinkable for ordinary people to spend even half a day getting pampered; today, Flawless Face & Body Clinic stands strong on the principle of accessible beauty, cutting through the many misconceptions surrounding self-care.

In that regard, Flawless founder and CEO Rubby Sy is a pioneer. “I have always seen [self-care] as foundational to a person’s success in the world,” she says. “I believe in putting one’s best face forward, and that to achieve that is evenly split between what you put on and how you feel inside. And one always affects the other.”

In the two decades since Flawless built its first branch in the bustling halls of SM Megamall, Sy’s rose-colored empire has both shaped and evolved with the times—as much as its services have literally shaped and sculpted many satisfied customers. As the “Beauty BFF” of the Philippines, employs treatments and procedures backed by scientific research to ensure top results at a fraction of the average cost. “I did not have the same luxuries as my peers growing up, so I know the value of feeling your best,” recalls Sy. “I have gotten as far as I have because I did what I could for myself at the time. Now, I can rely on experts who care about what I want to achieve in terms of beauty. So my goal was to bring those experts to people like who I was while growing up—to help them start what I call their beauty [aspect of their self-care] journeys.”

Such journeys are best embarked on with someone you can trust, and Flawless is no stranger to holding Filipinos’ hands as they discover and uncover their unique beauty. But self-care varies from person to person, as the doctors and aesthetic experts at Flawless know all too well. “We know everyone has different goals, and more importantly, different needs,” adds Sy.

“That’s why I insist that the consultations are free. You deserve to know where you are on your journey and to have access to that sort of expert-approved information.”

BFFs (the clinic’s in-term for customers) old and new can also kickstart their own journeys with 3+1 or 4+1 Medical and Non-medical Services Package, featuring Facials and Microdermabrasion services—including the ever-popular Clarifying Facial, Age Defy Facial, and Nano PowerPeel—available until the end of 2023. For November in particular, Flawless also highlights the follow-through aspect of self-care with their November Flash Sale:

● 50% off a second session with every session of Nano PowerPeel with Mask

● 50% off a second session with every session of Advanced Facial (Clarifying/Flawless White/Age Defy)

● 50% off a second session with every session of Shape & Sculpt

● 50% off a second session with every session of Cellutite

● 50% off on Accutite Nose

● 50% off on Laser Hair Removal

“Some might call what we offer ‘indulgent’, but I could not disagree more,” concludes the founder. “Joy is as essential to success as anything else, and anything we do to create the best version of ourselves gives us joy. I don’t think Flawless would be hitting a 22-year milestone if that were not true.”

Celebrate 22 years of beauty excellence and embark on the next chapter of your beauty journey; Flawless Clinic is still the Filipinas’ secret to timeless, accessible, and radiant confidence. Learn more via their website, Facebook page, Instagram, and TikTok.
