Google Zeitgeist Reveals the Most Searched About Topics in the Philippines

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We were given three chances to guess which we think was the most searched about in the Philippines, and most of us were wrong!

It was really surprising, and only reveals two probable facts. It's either a lot of people were really curious and concerned of the tragic lost, or many really love the person from the very start of 2013 until the end of the year when he met a very unfortunate accident.

Yes! Paul Walker was the most searched about term in Google Philippines!

I am not sure if this is comforting enough for him to know that many recognized him as influential for others, but the guy really made an impact to the Filipinos.

Google Philippines
released today its annual year-end Zeitgeist, a collection of the top search queries by Filipinos on You'd find on the Google Zeitgeist website that "Nelson Mandela" is the most searched globally.

Next to Paul Walker under the top overall searches in the Philippines are "Samsung Galaxy S4" and "movies 2013."

The Typhoon Yolanda disaster came in second globally, and you will probably be not surprised seeing the former Eat Bulaga co-host Wally Bayola at third place ( "EB Babe Yosh" is in the following top 10 lists: #9 in top overall searches, #3 in people, and #2 in local celebrities.) locally. This made Ramon Bautista, our host for the night together with his equally humorous buddy Jun Sabayton of the "Wasak" fame, freak out and say he wish it was not a video scandal.

There were also the names of controversial celebrities Chito Miranda and Neri Naig, and of course who would dare leave out beauty pageants, a few smartphones, sports competitions, movies, and video games.

"This year’s news list shows that Pinoys remain avid followers of competitions. Miss Universe, FIBA Asia, UAAP Season 76, and Wimbledon all took spots alongside political events such as the mid-term elections in May, State of the Nation Address (SONA) in July, and the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or pork barrel scam issue."

Now we know what the Filipinos are thinking about as we reveal the most sought after questions that Google was able to provide satisfactory search results.

Though they brand Google as the medicine to cure 'katangahan" and that it has helped many students copy-paste content for their thesis, in reality Google has made a very significant improvement on how we are easily able to access information in just a few clicks, and now Google Zeitgeist gives us a clear and factual report on what really makes people tick and what they really talk about.

Our host for the night also made sure everyone had fun so they ran a few contest for the members of the media to win a smartphone prize.

“Zeitgeist is a tool in discovering the pulse of the people through searches made on Google. With the growing percentage of population going online, Zeitgeist becomes reflective of the issues and topics we’re interested in. This year’s lists speak a lot about our concern for national achievement and progress, while at the same time our curiosity in pop culture issues,” said Gail Tan, Google Philippines Country Communications Manager.
