Laguna Blogging Summit Core Team Meetup at Greenwich

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Laguna Blogging Summit core team is all excited for the upcoming biggest social media and blogging event happening in Laguna this year - The 2nd Laguna Blogging Summit!

At another meetup at Greenwich Philfirst, Ayala Avenue Makati branch, the team discussed possible ways to make the 2nd Laguna Blogging Summit bigger and better as compared to the first one. The organizers aim to make the second run of the Laguna Blogging Summit more memorable and exciting for the attendees. There were also talks of continuing to hold online contests and raffles for the promotion of our beloved sponsors as well as the summit itself.

Special guest speaker that day was Pepi De Leon, one of the pioneering member of the 1st Laguna Blogging Summit core team and a professional blogger and social media specialist as well. His topic was all about the Domain Name System or DNS. He also shared the advantages of using a dot com domain rather than the free Blogger or Wordpress sites.

Impromptu speaker was Ross Del Rosario who shared the improvements he experienced when he decided to convert his Wazzup Pilipinas blog from a free blogger site to a dot com. His site, WazzupPilipinas.com, is a new community blog that is only a few months old but has already a lot of viewers and is partnered with many prime agencies and establishments.

According to Wikipedia, the Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical distributed naming system for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet or a private network. It associates various information with domain names assigned to each of the participating entities. Most prominently, it translates easily memorized domain names to the numerical IP addresses needed for the purpose of locating computer services and devices worldwide. By providing a worldwide, distributed keyword-based redirection service, the Domain Name System is an essential component of the functionality of the Internet.

In short, the DNS is what makes finding websites easier since we do not have to memorize complicated Uniform Resource Locators or URLs in the form of number sets.

Pepi De Leon highly recommends the use of the dot com domains to professionalize our website, especially for the bloggers who want to project a more credible image. It is more desirable to see site owners who are willing to invest on a website with a domain name and hosting. It means that they are determined to take management of their website into the more professional level. He also said that Google ranks dot com web sites better than the free websites from Blogger or Wordpress.

Ross Del Rosario shared that his WazzupPilipinas.com blog has received more event invites and proposals for partnership and even advertisement and paid posting requests when he converted to a dot com. WazzupPilipinas.com is partnered with the Department of Tourism, the Department of Transportation and Communications, and many other popular brands to promote events, attractions, and advocacy programs in the Philippines. Being a community blog, it is also open to article submissions from contributors.

The meetup was also attended by guests from the Zoomanity Group, one of the many event partners of the 2nd Laguna Blogging Summit. The Zommanity Group manages several theme parks in the Philippines. The venue and food was sponsored by Greenwich Barkada with their newest offering, the thin crust pizza! There were also yummy chicken, original and barbecue, spaghettis and fries served during the meetup. Greenwich is also owned by Jollibee, the number one fastfood chain in the Philippines.
