A Canvas of Hope: Filipino Youth Makes History with First Gold at Global Peace Art Competition

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

In a world often fractured by conflict, the quiet power of art has managed to bridge divides, and this year, the Philippines stands at the forefront of that bridge. In a historic triumph for the nation, a Filipino student has captured the country’s first-ever Gold Award in Division 3 at the prestigious 7th International Loving-Peace Art Competition.

A Historic Brushstroke

Organized by the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG), the competition was a massive global event, drawing in a staggering 15,932 entries from 40 nations. Amidst this sea of talent, the Philippines carved out a victory that resonates far beyond the canvas.

The spotlight falls on Prince R.M.B. Ikan of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo–Bailen Integrated School, who secured the Gold Award in Division 3. His winning masterpiece offered a vision of the world as it could be: a stirring depiction of a dove rising above people of different races holding hands, symbolizing a unity that transcends borders.

Prince Ikan’s artist statement was as poignant as his brushwork. "Through simple images and calm colors, this drawing delivers a powerful message for all people to understand each other, not to fight, and to be united as one," he explained, adding the rallying cry, "Let’s all become messengers of peace".

A Global Cry for Peace

The competition, centered around the theme "How can we practice peace and make it a reality in our daily lives?", challenged youth to transform abstract hopes into visual reality.

While Prince Ikan secured Gold for the Philippines, the Grand Prize was awarded to Tasfiha Tahsin of Bangladesh. Her work, titled "The Cry for Peace," provided a sobering counterpoint—a moving portrayal of a child praying amidst the devastation of war, symbolizing humanity's desperate longing for tranquility.

Filipino Talent Shines on the World Stage

The Philippines' success was not limited to a single victory. The country proved itself a powerhouse of creative advocacy, with several other young artists earning accolades on this international platform.

Silver Award (Division 1): Althea Cleona Q. Dela Rea (Limay Community School).

Bronze Award (Division 3): Anica Jeine Hiso (Kapalong National High School).

Bronze Award (Division 3): Zaijan V. Sumbong (St. Francis National High School).

Furthermore, Honorable Mentions were awarded to Rafael Joseph Solis (University of Batangas), Prince Marlloyd Sualog (Limay Senior High School), and Frances Cyrus Guzman (Limay Senior High School), proving the depth of artistic talent within the Filipino youth.

Art as a Weapon for Change

The International Loving-Peace Art Competition is designed to be more than a contest; it is a movement to teach children the true meaning of peace through creativity. By expressing empathy and coexistence through art, these students are empowered to become active builders of peace in their own communities.

"Peace is like life, so we must teach it to the youth. These students will grow up to be the changemakers who contribute to global peace," noted Mr. Soon-kyu Hwang, the competition's Head Judge.

IWPG Chairwoman Na Yeong Jeon echoed this sentiment, describing the participants as the "true heroes of our time" and "steadfast seeds" capable of spreading peace globally.

A Legacy of Peace

With this landmark achievement, the Philippines has firmly stamped its mark on the international peace stage. The victory highlights that Filipino youth are not merely talented creators, but powerful messengers capable of envisioning a harmonious future.

The IWPG, a global organization registered with the UN ECOSOC and DGC, continues to empower women and youth across 122 countries, advocating for initiatives like the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW). Through the eyes of students like Prince Ikan, the organization’s mission—making peace a daily lifestyle rather than just an ideal—seems closer than ever.

A Love Story Reimagined: Timberlands Highlands Resort Unveils a Wedding Legacy with Pablo Mendez III

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The air is thick with anticipation—a blend of excitement for a stunning reveal and reverence for a true master of design. Tonight is not just an event; it is the grand, dramatic merger of place and passion, setting a new, unparalleled standard for luxury celebrations.

Welcome to the Highlands, where love is elevated to an art form.

I. The Double Unveiling: Setting the Stage

Timberlands Highlands Resort, long celebrated as a quietly kept escape, today threw open its gates to unveil something spectacular: "Weddings in the Highlands," their very own comprehensive wedding feature. But the resort did not stand alone in this momentous debut. The spotlight then shifted, blazing onto one of the country's most cherished homegrown talents, an artist whose name is synonymous with elegance and distinction across countless unforgettable occasions, from gracing beauty queens to styling icons of entertainment.

We speak, of course, of the renowned Mr. Pablo Mendez III.

The night was framed as a two-part showcase: the breathtaking venue and the peerless artistry of Mendez. Before the much-awaited show could begin, the audience turned its attention to the visionary who breathed life into this spectacular concept.

II. The Visionary: Shaping a Celebration

Stepping forward with an aura of dedication and warmth, Miss Eliza De Venezia Reyes, Chroma Hospitality's Assistant Vice President for Banquet and Key Accounts Sales, acknowledged the industry partners, creative forces, and colleagues gathered. Her opening words, though humble, carried the weight of the massive endeavor they represented.

"When we first envisioned Weddings in the Highlands, we knew we couldn't simply plan generic packages," Miss Reyes shared, her voice radiating conviction. "It had to reflect what we value most: the emotion, the intention behind every detail, and the personal touch that goes into creating a fully personal celebration."

The objective was clear: to combine the intrinsic beauty of Timberlands Highlands with a wedding service defined by depth, customization, and heart.

III. Where Natural Beauty Meets Refined Perception

Miss Reyes spoke passionately about the essence of a Timberlands wedding—an experience where the setting is merely the beginning of the magic.

Imagine exchanging vows amidst sweeping views of the city lights and the majestic mountains beyond. Picture lush, shifting gardens that hold a unique enchantment from the golden hour of day to the quiet drama of night. These are spaces, she noted, that naturally lend themselves to intimate ideas and refined receptions. What was once a secluded retreat has now evolved into one of the Metro's most compelling destinations for sealing a lasting legacy.

But the true soul of the Timberlands wedding lies not just in the panorama.

"What truly defines the Timberlands wedding are the people behind it," Miss Reyes emphasized. "Our planners, our service team, our culinary brigade, and our partners—they approach every event as if it were their own, so that each moment feels thoughtful and unforgettable."

IV. The Maestro’s Touch: Pablo Mendez III

This deep commitment to personalized excellence found its perfect counterpart in the evening's co-star: Pablo Mendez III.

The celebration reached its peak as the curtains prepared to lift (referring to the sunset), revealing the stunning integration of the resort's visual highlights or environmental features with Mendez's exquisite work. His artistry has long been the gold standard for accompanying life's major milestones with grace and distinction.

"This afternoon, we celebrate all of that, alongside the artistry of Pablo Mendez III," Miss Reyes announced, her statement acting as the final invitation. "I invite you to take it all in: the gowns, the styling, the food, the spaces, and the many stories that can begin here."

The lights dimming signaled the end of the prelude and the beginning of the drama. The show began and ended for now. Tonight, the Highlands have not just launched a service; they have launched a movement—a legacy of love and distinction, personally curated by the hands of a true master.

It is with profound pleasure and honor that the new chapter, "Weddings in the Highlands," officially begins.

PETA Announces “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 4: Oh Sh*t! It’s Live Sa Cheter!” opening June 2026

Wazzup Pilipinas?!

Eugene Domingo returns as herself in the franchise’s fourth and boldest installment yet

QUEZON CITY, Philippines—The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) proudly announces the newest—and wildest—addition to the iconic “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank” universe. After two blockbuster films and one hit series, the franchise is finally leaping from screen to stage with its live theatrical installment, from June 19 to August 16, 2026, at the PETA Theater Center.

Bringing the beloved satire to an entirely new medium, PETA’s “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 4” promises a chaotic, sharp-witted, and laugh-out-loud look at the world of Philippine theater-making. In true Septic Tank fashion, the show takes audiences behind the curtain—then tears it down—exposing the ego, ambition, absurdity, and beautiful mess that fuels the industry today.

The show’s official synopsis reads:

PETA unveils its newest satire, a theatrical adaptation of “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank,” as a chaotic, hilarious meta-comedy about ego, art, and the messy reality of making Philippine theater today. From macro to micro, from venue problems to ticket prices, from what the subject matter is to what’s on Broadway, from what we love to what we hate about theater, from the past, present, and future of our beloved art.

Returning to the role only she can play is the incomparable Eugene Domingo as herself, joined by everybody else in the theater world as themselves!

Serving as the franchise's boldest evolution, this stage adaptation embraces PETA’s signature approach: entertainment paired with razor-sharp cultural commentary. Expect a riotous experience that reflects the chaos of real-life theater-making while preserving the company’s teeth—its commitment to socially relevant, politically aware, and artistically daring storytelling.

As the home of smash-hit originals like “Rak of Aegis,” “Walang Aray,” and the musical adaptation of “One More Chance,” PETA is poised to deliver a production that’s as groundbreaking as the films that inspired it.

Written by Chris Martinez and directed by Maribel Legarda, this installment is set to become as iconic as it's predecessors, only bigger, bolder, and even more meta.

“Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 4” is co‑presented by Metrobank, PETA’s official bank partner for 2026.

Metrobank credit cardholders will have first access to tickets during a special presale when tickets launch in the first quarter of 2026.

Ticket waitlisters who sign up from December 2 to 7, 2025, via bit.ly/PETASepticTank4Waitlist will be next in line to purchase.

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The Ateneo Blue Eagles are flying back to their nest for One Big Feast: The 2025 Ateneo de Manila University Grand Alumni Homecoming, on December 6, 2025, at the Ateneo Junior High School Covered Courts.

Hosted by this year’s Silver Jubilarians, the Ateneo High School Class of 2000, the event will honor the past, plant seeds for a bright future, and aspire to elevate One Big Fight to a global stage.

This year’s Homecoming will gather Ateneans as they honor and support the event’s beneficiaries, foremost among them the teachers whose guidance, presence, passion, and patience have shaped the growth, development, and achievements of countless Ateneans.

In recognition of their dedication and lasting impact, a portion of the proceeds will bolster the Teachers’ Retirement Fund. More than 40 active and retired faculty members are expected to attend the festivities to reconnect with their former students and mentees.

“We wanted to express our heartfelt appreciation to our teachers who, like our parents and families, believed in us, guided us, and made countless sacrifices to help shape who we are today,” Tristan Timbol, Co-Chair of the 2025 Homecoming Committee, said.

“We are who we are because of them and the lessons they imparted. Through this donation, we hope to convey our deep gratitude, especially to the many teachers who dedicated their lives to forming and educating young people,” Timbol added.

The event will also support the AAA Order of the Blue Eagles Scholars, ensuring that deserving students continue to receive opportunities for a transformative Ateneo education. By empowering them to pursue their dreams, the Ateneo community helps shape individuals who can make meaningful contributions to society and become leaders who help build a brighter and stronger future for the country.

“We were blessed with the opportunity to receive an Ateneo education, and we appreciate even more now how it has shaped our careers, our communities, and our families. Because of this, it became important for us to help extend the same opportunity to deserving students. Just as the Ateneo opened doors for us after graduation, we hope to open doors for others—to learn, to grow, and to thrive within the Ateneo framework,” Don Umali, Co-Chair, shared.

Finally, a portion of the proceeds will likewise support the Ateneo Track and Field Team as part of efforts to elevate homegrown talent to a global stage and champion excellence in athletics — not only locally but in international competitions such as the Southeast Asian Games, the Olympics, and other global tournaments.

“A big theme that emerged among our batch as we began organizing the year-long Homecoming activities was the desire to give back to the community and to the people who supported us during our years in Ateneo,” Chef Ed Bugia, also a Co-Chair, explained.

“We spent half of our lives in Ateneo, and a central part of our formation was becoming men for others. In fact, our batch was among the first to experience the community immersion programs in high school. Because of this, it was important to us to create a lasting impact when selecting our beneficiaries for the year,” Bugia described.

Aside from the meaningful causes it supports, the Homecoming also promises One Big Fun, giving attendees a chance to celebrate, reconnect, and reminisce with fellow Ateneans through an evening filled with good food courtesy of Manam and Moment Catering, and excellent drinks and hydration, including soda, juices, beers, and select spirits.

Providing additional excitement and energy to the event are comedian Victor Anastacio and the ever-versatile, popular hosts PJ Lanot and Mica Pineda.

Fun and lively performances, including a comedy set by Victor, smooth DJ sets, and a headline performance by The Itchyworms, also await Ateneans.

To top it all off, Ateneans can look forward to exciting raffle prizes ranging from hotel stays at Aruga by Rockwell Hotel Makati, Astoria Current Boracay, Astoria Palawan, Astoria Plaza Ortigas, Fili Hotel NUSTAR Cebu, Grand Hyatt Manila, Green Sun Hotel Makati, to assorted items which include Kodak Document Scanners, Human Nature gift baskets, Havaianas flip-flops, Nike gym bags, a Casio G Shock watch, all the way to a Kawasaki motorcycle and many more — ensuring surprises and laughs throughout the night.

One Big Feast will start with the honoring of heroes at 3:00 PM, followed by a Eucharistic Celebration at the Church of the Gesu at 3:30 PM. After the Mass, there will be a short Marian Procession going to the High School grounds.

Gates for the Homecoming will open at 5:30 PM, and the program will start at 6:30 PM, providing Ateneans with the opportunity to bond with former teachers, expand their network with fellow alumni, and engage with sponsors and beneficiaries.

It invites audiences to reflect on the value of inquiry, critical thinking, and the pursuit of understanding.

A Crisis of Integrity: Religious Leaders Call on Youth to Champion Ethical Leadership

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Amid a prevailing atmosphere of corruption and waning public trust in Philippine institutions , three leading religious voices from the Catholic, Muslim, and Hindu traditions convened in a powerful interfaith forum to tackle the crisis head-on.

The virtual event, held on November 29, 2025 , was co-hosted by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) Philippines and the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) Indonesia. It gathered religious leaders, educators, media, and peace advocates from both countries to highlight a crucial truth: ethical leadership is non-negotiable.

The Unified Message: A Return to the Moral Core

The forum issued a dramatic call for inner transformation as the true starting point for rebuilding society.

1. The Christian and Islamic Imperative: Rediscovering Inner Dignity

Dr. Renato Taib Oliveros, a Catholic priest, peace advocate, and member of Jesuits Among Muslims in Asia (JAMIA) , set the stage by stressing that moral principles opposing corruption are foundational across both Christian and Islamic scriptures.

However, Dr. Oliveros observed a stark reality: the current widespread corruption reveals a chasm between these spiritual teachings and actual societal behavior.

His urgent message focused on the youth, whom he encouraged to look beyond the surface:

He noted that many young people today "see themselves only as the one they see in the mirror" , overlooking the inner dignity and spiritual depth that must guide ethical action.

He firmly stated that true ethical leadership starts not with new laws, but with an inner transformation—a return to one’s core values and scriptural virtues.

2. The Islamic Perspective: Compassion and Cooperation as an Antidote

Prof. Dr. H. Muhammad Galib M., MA, Professor of Qur’anic Studies and Tafsir at Alauddin State Islamic University of Makassar, Indonesia, expanded on the necessity of unity across differences.

He warned that "Diversity must be approached with compassion" to ensure dynamic and harmonious interaction, free from the conflict and hostility that can breed corruption. Prof. Galib cited Surah Al-Maidah (5:2): “Help one another in goodness and piety, and do not help one another in sin and hostility”.

His powerful concluding plea was a reminder that "we are one humanity," and all must uphold unity to build peace on earth, preventing disharmony across all faiths, cultures, and nations.

3. The Hindu Teaching: The Unwavering Power of Example

Missionary Hindu priest and youth lecturer Kavi Karnapura Das of International Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) delivered a stark warning about the power of influence.

Citing the Bhagavad Gita (3.21): “Whatever action a great man performs, common men follow,” he explained that ethical leadership demands consistency between values and actions.

He challenged leaders directly:

"[If] you are a corrupt government officer or a leader, and you tell others not to do the same, it will not work. The first principle of ethical leadership must start from leading by example,” he asserted.

He strongly urged educators and policymakers to integrate character formation, discipline, and servant leadership into educational systems, ensuring future leaders are guided by integrity as their default compass.

The Voice of the Youth

The forum concluded with youth leaders sharing moving reflections on how the message resonated with their role in the Philippines.

Jhune Arcy, a student leader from Ilaya National High School, expressed a resilient faith, stating that despite the many challenges, a community guided by faith and grounded in God’s teachings can overcome dilemmas and uphold peace and unity.

Matthew from Urdaneta City University shared that the event not only opened his mind to new ideas but also “reminded me to stay grounded in what truly matters as a leader”.

A Continuing Commitment to Ethics

HWPL Philippines and IPYG Indonesia declared their commitment to regularly holding similar interfaith learning spaces to continue empowering young people to become ethical, compassionate, and principled leaders.

Youth and peace advocates are also strongly encouraged to deepen their understanding of peace and interfaith harmony by joining the Religious Peace Academy (RPA) —a free, self-paced online program for exploring scriptural discussions across various faiths.

Philippine Declaration on Lung Cancer Pushes for Urgent PhilHealth Coverage and National Action

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The Philippines’ leading lung cancer experts, patient groups, and policymakers have issued the Philippine Declaration on Lung Cancer Diagnostics and Treatment Access, calling for the immediate rollout of a comprehensive PhilHealth Lung Cancer Benefit Package and stronger nationwide systems for early detection, diagnosis, and equitable treatment. The declaration signals a united push to address one of the country’s deadliest and most costly health burdens, aligning with the ASPIRE Asia-Pacific Lung Cancer Policy Consensus that urges governments to act decisively against surging lung cancer rates.

A worsening national burden

For the Lung Health Alliance of the Philippines (LungHAP), the declaration is both urgent and long overdue.

LungHAP President Engr. Emer Rojas underscored the scale of the crisis. “Lung cancer remains the deadliest of all cancers in the country, claiming more than 20,000 Filipino lives in 2022 alone. Behind every number is a family, a story, a life cut short, many of them preventable.”

LungHAP Chairman Atty. Arnel Mateo added that the declaration represents a collective call to action. “Lung cancer is not just another health challenge. It is the leading cause of death among all cancers in the Philippines. Let us make this declaration a powerful step toward a future where no Filipino faces lung cancer alone.”

Medical oncologist and ASPIRE lead researcher Dr. Kenneth Samala emphasized that comprehensive PhilHealth coverage could dramatically improve outcomes, especially since more than half of Filipino lung cancer patients are diagnosed at late stages, when treatment options are limited and expensive.

“Adequate funding and insurance are essential to ensure timely access to diagnostics, treatment, and specialized care across the country,” he said.

Diagnostic gaps limit early detection

One of the declaration’s core priorities is expanding access to reliable and affordable diagnostic tools.

Dr. Corazon Ngelangel, President of the Philippine Cancer Society highlighted how AI-assisted chest X-rays can help stretch limited resources, especially for regions without low-dose CT (LDCT) facilities. “Using AI, we can triage only high-risk cases for LDCT, optimizing resources and supporting non-expert radiologists in the community,” she explained.

Adult pulmonologist and medical oncologist at the Lung Center of the Philippines Dr. Guia Ladrera stressed that early detection also requires stronger public awareness.

She noted that social media has become an effective platform for educating Filipinos about symptoms and risk factors.

Meanwhile, Dr. Michael Agustin, pulmonologist and critical care specialist and Director of the Healthway Lung Nodule Clinic Philippines pointed out persistent gaps that delay timely treatment.

“It’s not enough to have templates and diagnostics; the timing and coordination must be optimized. We must narrow gaps in the care pathway—from screening to biopsy, pathology, and treatment.”

The Declaration: A unified push for equity, access, and reform

The Philippine Declaration on Lung Cancer outlines a roadmap anchored on five urgent priorities:

Immediate implementation of a comprehensive PhilHealth Lung Cancer Benefit Package
