DepEd highlights culture of literacy, lifelong learning in 2023 National Literacy Conference

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The Department of Education (DepEd) underscored the importance of creating a culture of literacy and lifelong learning during the 2023 National Literacy Conference (NLC) on October 11 at DepEd ECOTECH Center.

“Our goal is to promote functional literacy and ensure that every Filipino possesses the skills and knowledge in real life, equipping individuals with the ability to make informed decisions, communicate effectively, and actively participate in the workforce and society,” Vice President and Secretary of Education Sara Z. Duterte said during her keynote address.

With the theme, “Building a Culture of Literacy: The Power of Communities as Catalysts of Literacy Development,” the 2023 NLC gathered around 500 participants to enhance and provide educational opportunities, advocate for lifelong learning, and empower community members in literacy activities.

“By investing in education and promoting literacy, we are investing in the future of our country, unlocking the potential of our people, and paving the way for sustainable development and prosperity,” VP-Sec Duterte added.

During the plenary sessions, regional delegates and resource speakers highlighted the role that communities play in fostering and promoting literacy skills among learners and individuals through four sub-themes, which include Building a Culture of Literacy Towards a MATATAG Nation, Strengthening Intercultural and Inclusive Teaching and Learning Practices, Recognizing the Vital Role of Communities in Literacy Development, and Advancing Literacy Through Research and Development.

“The journey to promote literacy is not without its challenges, but as we come together to share our experiences, knowledge, and innovative approaches, we become a formidable force for change. We are the ones who can break down the barriers to learning whether they be social, economic, or cultural,” Undersecretary for Curriculum and Teaching Gina O. Gonong said.

In addition, the LCC issued a Call for Papers last September 8, to gather policy recommendations that may influence, shape, or impact approaches, strategies, and mechanisms at the national and local levels in building a culture of literacy in the country.

These policy recommendations were also summarized and presented at the end of the conference.

The NLC hopes to increase awareness of key education stakeholders on the current initiatives of the Department and to strengthen intercultural and inclusive teaching and learning practices in an ever-changing education landscape.

Kuryente.org slams MERALCO power rate increase, unjust automatic pass-through

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Kuryente.org slams the recent announcement of MERALCO to increase by .44/kwh in the billing for October. This increase will result in an P84.00 increase for consumers with 200Kwh of electricity consumption per month. The announced increase is double in amount compared to the recent average minimum wage increase of P40.00.

Roland Vibal, National Coordinator for Kuryente.org, said:

“MERALCO’s basis for this abrupt increase is unacceptable and unjust for residential electricity consumers. The increase due to high generation cost as supply of local natural gas is insufficient and the continued high price of imported alternatives is a knee-jerk reaction and not a valid excuse. MERALCO must stop acting as a spokesperson for the generation company.

“The true cause of the increase is the automatic pass-through provisions that the government allows to continue despite calls for its prohibition. This mechanism justifies both power producers and distribution utilities like MERALCO to abruptly pass on to consumers any changes in price to preserve their profit margins.

“Kuryente.org calls for the scrapping of automatic pass-through provision and the Energy Regulatory Commission must review all MERALCO Power Supply Agreements and immediately stop it. Likewise, the review and amendment of the EPIRA should repeal and scrap any section of the law that allows this mechanism of automatic passing of increase in cost to consumers.”

What Are the Best Payment Methods for Gambling for Filipinos?

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Are you gambling online? Read our article for more details about the best payment methods for deposits and withdrawals at Filipino online casino sites.

Filipino people have become extremely passionate about online gambling. It is a flexible and entertaining activity available to everyone with a stable internet connection. The online gambling market within the country is becoming extremely competitive. Players can find hundreds of online casinos and thousands of different casino games.

People matter the most because of the quality and quantity of games and the fairness of bonuses. Yet, one of the things you need to get familiar with before opening an account is the available payment methods. They are not the same on each gambling site, and you may not be satisfied with the offer always.

On this page, we would like to make an analysis of the best payment methods for gambling in the Philippines. That way, you will know whether the payment method you typically use for everyday purchases is also available for gambling. Let’s go!

Bitcoin

Undoubtedly, cryptocurrencies have become the favorite payment method among Filipino gamblers. Logically, Bitcoin is the most preferred option and there are various reasons for that. First and foremost, cryptos ensure the complete safety of the transactions. Apart from that, all the crypto-based transactions are extremely quick and cheap. Ultimately, they ensure complete anonymity, which means you don’t have to expose all the private information (you would usually have to).

Still, there is one disadvantage regarding online casinos accepting Bitcoin (and other altcoins). Their number is still not that big! The online gambling market is slowly adapting to innovative financial solutions. That’s why finding the best Filipino crypto casinos may be challenging. On the other hand, many people are still unaware of the benefits they can get from crypto gambling. Because of that, we invite you to read explanations and analyses about Bitcoin casino sites in the Philippines and properly inform about everything before starting this journey.

E-Wallets

It doesn’t need to surprise us at all why e-wallets are at the top of this list. As we analyzed last year, Filipinos spend around 4.4 million hours using e-wallet apps. The same habit has become popular in the online gambling space. People appreciate the benefits they can get from using Skrill, Neteller, EcoPayz, PayPal and other e-wallets. These tools allow them to transfer their funds from and to their casino account relatively quickly. More precisely, all the deposits are instant, while withdrawals won’t last longer than 24 hours. Opening an account on any e-wallet platform is easy and can be done with a few clicks. Would you be willing to test such an option?

GCash

Something unique about Filipino people is their habit of using GCash for everyday purchases. It is a payment method that exists only there. Using GCash is extremely easy. It will be necessary to download the app, create and verify the account and deposit the money. Fully verified accounts will get more benefits compared to unverified users. Best of all, many casino sites in the Philippines accept payments made by this tool. That’s why finding the most suitable ones won’t be tough. Make sure to register only at licensed online casinos.

Credit/Debit Cards

The previous three payment methods ensure more benefits to an average gambler in the Philippines. Yet, credit and debit cards are old and traditional payment methods that people have used for years. Even in the modernized world, people consider them most convenient. It is hard to find a person who does not have one, which is something we can’t say for the previous payment methods.

Anyway, the good thing is that almost every foreign online casino will accept credit and debit cards. In most cases, the list of available payment methods is extremely long. You will find options like MasterCard, American Express, VISA and others on almost every gambling platform. Unfortunately, there are certain disadvantages to these tools. Although they are extremely easy to use, you may need to wait a bit longer for funds to be approved. That especially counts when we talk about withdrawals.

Conclusion

These are the four most popular payment methods for gambling in the Philippines. Of course, we do not want to say they are the only ones. You will also find people using prepaid cards, vouchers, and direct bank transfers. Some people even use eChecks, but not many Filipino online casinos accept them. Anyway, you don’t have to use the most popular ones. Use those that ensure you the most comfortable gambling. Yet, if you can, test the ones we highlighted on this page.

Filipino Household Finances Improve Amid Continued Economic Recovery

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

More Filipinos’ household finances have improved over the last three months, according to the Q3 Consumer Pulse Study by TransUnion (NYSE: TRU), a global information and insights company.

The study, which surveyed 1,000 adult Filipino consumers from July 6 to 24, 2023, also showed that more Filipinos are comfortable owning credit products and completing digital transactions. The observed shift in sentiment towards credit products and digital payments corresponds with digital banks and financial technology (FinTech) companies such as e-wallets continuing to establish a foothold in the country. At the same time more Filipinos are also concerned about their safety from cybersecurity threats.

More Filipinos optimistic about income and household finances

Alongside the 4.6% expansion of the Philippine Gross Domestic Product (GDP) observed in Q2 2023[1], 52% of Filipino survey respondents reported better than planned household finances during Q3 2023 – an increase of three percentage points from 49% in Q2 2023.

Additionally, 44% of respondents in Q3 2023 reported an increase in income over the past three months, a slight increase of three percentage points from 41% observed in the previous quarter.

Filipinos are growing comfortable with credit

Almost all (96%) respondents to the Q3 2023 survey see access to credit and lending products as an important way to achieve financial goals.

A deeper dive into the findings shows that the number of Filipinos comfortable owning credit accounts such as loans and credit cards increased by six percentage points to 41% in Q3 2023, up from 35% in Q2 2023. This growing comfort with having credit products is also seen in the future plans of more Filipinos. More than half the respondents (51%) indicated they were planning to apply for a new personal loan within the next year, an increase of five percentage points from 46% in Q2 2023.

“Credit can be a powerful tool that helps people improve their lives. It is a very encouraging sign to see more Filipinos growing comfortable with credit and using it to unlock better economic opportunities,” said Pia Arellano, president and CEO of TransUnion Philippines. “The proliferation of digital banks and financial technology players is also a positive sign. These entities are helping to expand access to credit so more Filipinos can enjoy the benefits of financial inclusion.”

Digital banks and FinTechs seen as sources for credit products

The study’s findings also show that Filipinos are accessing credit products from new sources: 32% of respondents said they have existing credit cards or loans from a digital bank – banks with no physical branches who offer financial products and services processed through digital platforms[2] - while 26% said they have a loan from a FinTech firm.

However, 42% of Filipinos in Q3 2023 said they would still choose the institution that offers them the lowest interest rate when applying for a new digital loan – whether the lender is a traditional bank, digital bank or FinTech institution. While digital banks and FinTech companies have emerged as viable options, these findings are indicative of a discerning consumer base that actively seeks credit products that offer the best terms and conditions.

Aside from seeking affordable credit products, speed of approval also emerged as an influencing factor in choosing credit products: 91% of Q3 2023 respondents cited real time approval when applying for a digital loan being important to them – an increase of three percentage points from Q2 2023.

Cybersecurity seen as a concern with more transactions happening online

More Filipinos now report transacting online. When asked about how many of their transactions are done over the internet, 58% reported completing more than a quarter of their transactions online, an increase of two percentage points from the previous quarter.

Coupled with this rise, cybersecurity also emerged as a concern for more Filipinos. Asked what obstacles they encounter while using digital technology in new ways, 49% expressed concerns about cybersecurity threats – the biggest concern and a three-percentage point increase from the previous quarter.

When it came to the cyber threats Filipinos reported being most concerned about, nearly two thirds (65%) cited stolen identities, over half (51%) data breaches and 45% credit card fraud. Despite growing concerns regarding cybersecurity threats, among those who said they didn’t take action within the last 60 days in response to cybersecurity concerns, 66% said they took no action because they were unsure of what to do – an increase of 11 percentage points from the previous quarter.

“As more aspects of our lives move online, the role of cybersecurity in this progressively internet-centered world is vital. At TransUnion Philippines, we provide a host of identity proofing and fraud prevention solutions to keep fraudsters and other malicious entities from perpetrating crimes against consumers and businesses. TransUnion Philippines is ready to work with financial institutions, businesses, and consumers to provide the education and solutions needed to help keep online spaces safe,” said Arellano.

The Best Tips For Planning Your Budget When Playing Online Casino Games

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In this article, we are going to discuss a beloved topic of many people nowadays - online casino joints. Well, more precisely, the art of planning a budget for online gambling. Is that really a form of art? Well, it is because many dudes and dudettes forget themselves while playing and that can be a costly mistake.

If you want to avoid this dreadful scenario, it is important to have a meticulous plan covering all bases. Here are some of the best tips one needs to consider.

Search For Bonuses

Searching for bonuses at online casinos can be ridiculously helpful when it comes to planning a gambling budget.

As most seasoned gamers know, bonuses are promotional offers provided by online casinos to attract new players and reward existing ones. By taking advantage of these bonuses, players can increase playing funds and potentially extend the gambling session.

If you are intrigued by this option, there is the wildz casino bonus to discover at your disposal.

The Many Benefits Of Bonuses

These splendid incentives can provide players with additional funds to play with, allowing people to explore different games and try out new strategies without risking the game. This can be particularly beneficial for beginners who are still learning the ropes of online gambling.

Moreover, bonuses often come with specific terms and conditions, such as wagering requirements and time limits. These conditions can help players set limits on these gambling activities and prevent them from overspending. By carefully reading and understanding the terms of the bonus, players can plan gambling sessions accordingly and avoid any surprises or disappointments further down the line.

Additionally, searching for bonuses can also help gamers compare different online casinos and choose the ones that offer the most favorable terms. By considering factors such as the bonus amount, wagering requirements, and game restrictions, you can select the casinos that provide the best value. This can, in the end, help you stretch your gambling budget and maximize the chance of winning.

However, it is important to note that while bonuses can be advantageous, responsible gambling should always be a priority. It is crucial to set a budget for your gambling activities and stick to it, regardless of the bonuses available.

One Game At The Time

When focusing on one game, players can become more skilled and knowledgeable about its rules, strategies and odds. This can increase the chance of winning and reduce the risk of making costly mistakes.

Also, playing multiple games simultaneously can be a rather splendid experience, but it could also be overwhelming and lead to those nasty and impulsive decisions. By sticking to one game, you can maintain better control over your betting habits and avoid unnecessary losses.

Additionally, playing one game at a time allows you to manage your bankroll more effectively.

You can allocate funds wisely and set limits on your bets, preventing you from overspending or chasing losses.

Lastly, some online casinos offer loyalty programs or bonuses specific to certain games. By focusing on one game, you can take advantage of these rewards and maximize savings.

Set Limits

Setting financial limits when playing online casino games is crucial to ensure responsible gambling and avoid overspending. Here are some tips to help you establish and stick to your limits:

Determine how much you can afford to spend on online casino games without affecting your essential expenses. This amount should be discretionary income that you are comfortable losing. Create a separate bank account or e-wallet specifically for online gambling. Transfer only the budgeted amount into this account, keeping your main finances separate.

Be The Master Of Your Time And Money

Decide how much time you want to spend playing online casino games each session. This will help you avoid getting carried away and spending more than intended. Most reputable online casinos offer the option to set deposit limits on the account. Take advantage of this feature to restrict the amount of money you can deposit within a specific timeframe.

It's important to accept that gambling involves risks, and you may not always win. If you experience a losing streak, resist the temptation to chase your losses by increasing your bets. Stick to your predetermined limits and walk away if necessary.

Self-Exclusion

Utilizing those life-saving self-exclusion tools can be a helpful strategy in planning and managing your gambling budget. These tools are designed to assist individuals in controlling their gambling habits and preventing excessive spending.

Self-exclusion allows you to voluntarily exclude yourself from participating in gambling activities for a specified period of time. By doing so, you create a barrier that helps you resist the temptation to gamble and helps you stay within your budget.

How Can This Help?

One way self-exclusion tools can help is by providing a cooling-off period. This allows you to take a break from gambling and reassess your financial situation. During this time, you can evaluate your budget, set limits, and develop a more responsible approach to gambling.

Additionally, self-exclusion tools can limit your access to gambling platforms, both online and offline. By blocking your access, these tools prevent impulsive gambling and give you time to reflect on your gambling habits. This can be splendidly beneficial if you find yourself frequently exceeding your budget or struggling to control your spending.

Furthermore, self-exclusion tools often come with additional support services, such as counseling or helplines, which can provide guidance and assistance in managing your gambling budget. These resources can offer valuable advice on responsible gambling practices and help you develop strategies to stay within your financial limits.

The Final Word

Sure, exploring the wondrous world of online gambling is a brilliantly unique venture, but it can also be a treacherous one if you are not careful enough. This is why it's so important to take heed of the wise words you read here today.

Plan your budget religiously and honor your plans. This is the only way you will be able to play your beloved games without worrying about the gaming experience.

PHLPost welcomes move to preserve the historic MCPO Building

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has taken initial steps towards restoring the fire-hit Manila Central Post Office (MCPO) building.

“We welcomed the move of Secretary Christina Frasco of the Department of Tourism (DOT) to aid in the funding of the Detailed Architectural and Engineering Study (DAES) through the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA)”, Postmaster General Luis Carlos said.

The Department of Tourism is now looking at developing the iconic building as part of a cultural circuit in the City of Manila.

Built in 1926, the Manila Central Post Office was declared an Important Cultural Property by the National Museum of the Philippines in 2018. Likewise, cultural properties with exceptional cultural, artistic, and historical significance to the country, are eligible to receive government funding for its protection, conservation, and restoration.

The building is a neoclassical architecture designed by Filipino’s Juan Arellano and Tomas Mapua.

The Inter Agency Task Force for Cultural Heritage (IATF-CH) is composed of cultural authorities including the DOT, PHLPost and the City of Manila, worked together in the formulation of Detailed Architectural and Engineering Study (DAES) which is now with TIEZA for the procurement process.

“As you can see, this is an integrated, multi-sectoral and collaborative process whereby different agencies come together to address complex challenges in order for us to immediately restore the historic edifice”, PMG Carlos added.

While PHLPost is waiting for the implementation of DAES, a conservation architect has been tapped to identify the items or materials left by a fire that has historical value and facilitate its tagging, cataloging, and retrieval to serve as a reference in the actual restoration of the MCPO building.

PHLPost is also working on the shoring of the building. This is a process to temporarily support the structure, vessel, or trench with shores (a timber or metal props) to avoid danger of collapsing during repairs or alterations.

“After the fire, the rain waters are trapped in the third floor. PHLPost undertook declogging of the gutters and now rain waters are running off the building”, he said.

PHLPost has received different proposals as to the use of the building. “For as long as the IATF-CH has no reservation on the use of the building, PHLPost is open for any collaborations on the building.” PMG Carlos added.

Enjoy Exploring the World with Travel Insurance

Wazzup Pilipinas! Formula 1 weekends just finished last month in Singapore, I really missed those great events for the past years as a sport enthusiast.  I know that I need to save more money in the next season coz I have a costly hobby like traveling the world and watching the NBA, World Cup, Golf, and lot of Racing.

Travelling is really fun like the 1st time you drive your own motorcycle and car. As a newbie, you became reckless and worry-free. Until it breaks down or engages into an unwanted accident then you think about insurance as you grow old.  Same with me, right now what I always think is what if I got into an accident or disease? Who's gonna take care of me. I need to be fully covered every time I travel.

Same with me, right now what I always think is what if I got into an accident or disease? Who's gonna take care of me. I need to be fully covered every time I travel. I always think of medical or unwanted expenses as a full-grown adult. Nobody is going to save and help you except yourself.

This 2023 after surviving severe COVID hospitalization 2 years ago and a motorcycle accident this year Insurance is really a must. Although I work remotely and can travel anywhere in the globe. I still need a reliable travel insurance company that can make me feel safe whenever needed.
