Mikey Bustos Is Now a Semi-Regular Mainstay at Bubble Gang

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It was just the other day when we shared the news here in our blog that Mikey Bustos is now a co-host DJ at Magic 89.9 FM Radio station. Now Mikey is happy to announce that he is now also a semi-regular mainstay of the very popular comedy gag show Bubble Gang.

Bubble Gang has always been my all-time favorite comedy gag show on television and having Mikey on it will be another great reason why everyone will surely be laughing out loud every Friday night. It is the longest-running Philippine comedy gag show airing on the Philippines GMA Network since October 20, 1995. The show shot up to popularity for their parodies of television commercials, politicians and current events. The show also airs internationally via GMA Pinoy TV, while re-runs are aired via Fox Filipino.

With Mikey Bustos joining popular comedians Michael V, Moymoy Palaboy and the rest of the equally humorous Bubble Gang cast, Bubble Gang is going to be extremely hilarious.

Entrepreneurs 101: Taking Advantage of Tourism Opportunities By Opening a Souvenir Shop

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Countless tourists flock to the Philippines every now and then to explore and experience what the nation has to offer. According to recent tourism statistics, the Philippines has successfully garnered more tourists than what is expected all throughout the first half of the year. This just means that our country has been doing pretty good in this sector. But what does this imply to the commerce industry?

Tourism is nonetheless a brilliant opportunity for money-making. If you come to think of it, foreigners—and even our fellow Filipino globetrotters—consider travelling as an avenue for trying out new things. They're obviously not only here to enjoy a day basking in our tropical sun. What they're looking for is the Filipino experience—the famous delicacies, sumptuous native dishes, unique activities, and other fun-filled Filipino stuff.

With such premise, we are able to conclude that tourism and business can go side-by-side. As of now, you are probably thinking of ways how you can take advantage of such lucrative opportunity. By all means, opening your own souvenir shop may be the best bet. This type of business—if managed and marketed properly—could prove to reap substantially good profits in the long run.

But how do you start?

Nancy Binay and the Nazareno

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I'm seeing a lot of this tweets supposedly from a Nancy Binay fake account making jokes about herself and linking it with the Nazareno theme depicting Nancy Binay as being confused by people for the Black Nazarene.

I get it. It's because the color of her skin is black like that of the Nazareno? Yeah!

The Binay's always get that kind of joke pertaining to their dark complexion, as if majority of the pure Filipinos are not dark in skin color. Well, maybe some of us are "brown monkeys" but a lot of us really appreciate the more light-colored skin influenced by our foreign neighbors.

Poor Binays being joked around all over the Internet with reference to their unfortunate Filipino skin color, and the rest of the Fil-Ams being praised and idolized for being so "Westernly" attractive.

Breakfast Magazine Features Ross Del Rosario of Wazzup Pilipinas

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It's finally out! Breakfast Magazine's year ender and starter (December - January 2014) issue!

Ross Del Rosario, founder of Wazzup Pilipinas - an online community blog awarded as one of the Top Ten Emerging Influential Blogs of 2013 and Most Outstanding Filipino Community Blog of 2013, is among those featured as guest writer for the said issue. Ross writes about the holiday feast offered by Diamond Hotel Philippines in an article entitled "Diamond Hotel's Delectable Christmas Feast: Delightful Dishes for a Festive December".
"I still remember the photo shoot we did on site with the help of by photographer Justin De Jesus, and the editors of Breakfast magazine, where we captured on film the remarkable food creations of the hotel. This was a few months before the actual release of the article. I imagined it takes a lot more dedication coming out with a magazine. Unlike blogs, a magazine and its feature articles takes a considerable amount of time to prepare with regards to writing the actual story, proofreading, processing the photos, and everything else that, honestly,  I am not really aware of."

Dear Macaroni How's Spaghetti Sincerely Yours Daddy and Mommy

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Filipinos are truly creative....even in naming their children.

Last December, when the University of the Philippines released their UP College Admission Test (UPCAT) results, we saw one name that was quite odd and thought it was some sort of clerical error. Later we found out that it was confirmed correct as per Facebook post of Sincerely Yours 98 herself.

Yes! You've read it right! Sincerely Yours 98 it is! Truly for short!

Sincerely Yours 98 Pascual or Sincerely Pascual on her Facebook page is actually the third among three siblings with very unusual names given to them by their parents. Their father was the one responsible in giving the "yummy" food names to them composed of his kuya names Macaroni 85 and her ate Spaghetti 88.

The Order of Life: Get a Job; Get a Life; Have a Family; Get Married?! Wait, What?!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We all know how the saying goes right? ‘Magasawa ka kapag may trabaho ka na!’ or simply put, get a job then get married. But in reality, this isn’t the exact case.

Here in the Philippines, we all know for a fact that the numbers of jobless people are far greater than those with proper jobs who earn enough for their families. Now, let’s start with that thought; A large number of jobless people are married and have a lot of kids. Just the thought of providing for a large family with around P500 worth of everyday budget isn’t enough. That alone could say that we should get a career first, or get a decent paying job, before ever thinking of marriage. A blunter way of saying it is ‘Make yourself useful and productive before claiming your girlfriend/boyfriend in the altar’. Kinda harsh in my opinion, but that’s how some would put it. Of course, there are even more reasons to this.

Let’s look at a futuristic sense, shall we?

Anne Curtis Smith is the Newest Dyesebel of ABS-CBN

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Anne Curtis Smith is Dyesebel, along with leading men Sam Milby and Gerald Anderson to star in ABS-CBN's newest "fantaserye" television series.

Dyesebel is the dream role of Anne since she was a child. She was very grateful that she was chosen by ABS-CBN inspite of the controversy she was involved in last 2013 where the famous line "I can buy you, your friend and this club". Now it seems it will be more like ""I can buy Ursula, her friends and this kingdom"

Biboy Arboleda said that on the process of choosing Dyesebel, ABS-CBN ran a marketing survey among different platforms including social media and Anne topped the list. Thus she was finally given the role of the Philippines' most popular mermaid character.

From Dyosa to Sirena, Anne as Dyesebel this 2014 will be an interesting watch on TV.

Feast of the Black Nazarene: Devotees Sacrifice in Exchange of Favors?

Wazzup Pilipinas!
“The Black Nazarene is an ironic pornographic celebration of violence—the overt violence of the past and the more subtle violence of the present.....The familiarity of the Jesus story has anesthetized us from what is at the heart of the ritual. Millions of men, women, and children are parading around with a wooden statue of a bloodied victim of torture, capital punishment, and God-sanctioned human sacrifice. The Black Nazarene is an ironic pornographic celebration of violence—the overt violence of the past and the more subtle violence of the present.” - Filipino Freethinkers.org
January 9, the annual Feast of the Black Nazarene once again drew millions of devotees as expected. It is also expected that around 60,000 devotees are to attend the procession in Cagayan De Oro City. The  statue is over 400 years old and has survived fires, earthquakes, and the devastation of the 2nd World War. It is paraded around the city until its way back to the Basilica in what is known as the Traslacion.

The Nazarene devotion is the most successful example of what the church wants to accomplish. The dream that drew the founders of the Church of the Nazarene together is still the same dream that guides it today. Some may vehemently resent the eventual circumstances just to meet the objectives, but a great number probably just want to test and follow their faith blindly. A sacrifice in exchange of favors.

Bunkhouses: Overpriced and Substandard Pwede Na Ba Yan?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"Following criticisms that the government's standards were far below international standards, Palace spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said on Wednesday, January 8, that the Philippines doesn't have to follow world standards. ...."We are following our standards. We don’t necessarily have to follow the international standards," he said." - Rappler

The Philippines rarely follow international standards. We don't realize that it is one of the reasons why we cannot successfully compete globally.

This is clearly a case of "Pwede na yan" or "Bahala na yan" which is very common with people in the Philippine government.

The bunkhouses or temporary shelters for typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) victims were also reported overpriced and substandard. It was quoted that P959,360 for a 12 unit bunkhouse (which boils down to about P80,000 per unit) which is to serve as temporary shelter. Gawad Kalinga only spends around P 125,000 per unit for a permanent shelter. Clearly there is a problem here.

I love to travel. To see new places, meet new people, learn new traditions, taste new dishes, and witness the various cultures everywhere I go. Indeed we are a curious race. I know that when given the opportunity, we would all love to see the world. We would enjoy going to many places possible as long as our feet can take us there. We will climb the highest mountains, swim the deepest seas, ....and do everything in our power...just for an awesome adventure.

I want to live my life to the fullest like it's my last days on Earth so I will not have regrets at the end.

Contiki has just released a new video last December named “Live One Day with Absolutely #NOREGRETS” which tells us to become more aggressive in our decisions to travel the world while we can, especially while we are young and able. Quezon City to Collect Garbage Collection Fees

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Quezon City government will be implementing a garbage collection fee mandated to all their residents more specifically to the lot owners. Though the QC government has a ceiling price of P 500 per year maximum per property, the most stressful argument here is why on Earth would they insist on a garbage collection fee when its supposed to be one of the most basic services given to the public by every local government unit.

I also have nothing against informal settlers but the so called "squatters" generate the most garbage and they usually dispose of these trash improperly thus causing more eyesore in our streets that would eventually clog our drainage systems leading to floods.

They did say they are in the process of devising a system on how to include informal settlers in the garbage fee collection but shouldn't they postpone this until they were able to do so?

It's Not About Winning...

Wazzup Pilipinas!

One of the much-awaited parts of students in their school year is the upcoming activities that will be done throughout the year. These are the culminating events and competitions where it is the time we can outshine and excel through our capacities and abilities that can qualify and compete with those of others.

Last December 17-18, 2013 we held our Business Fair led and set by our beloved teacher, Ms. Em and together with her committee. This event was made for our subject Economics that happened to be our project for the Third Quarter, so everyone was dedicated upon their businesses.

Every section has their own classification to remember, we have Boyle for their pizza; Copernicus for their burger with a twist; Goldstein for their street foods; Joule for their carbonara; Lewis for their nachos ; Marx for their sweets; and at last turon for my section, Berzelius. We also have different ways and marketing strategies to encourage people to buy and purchase our products. Many used their popularity, appeal, and of course their appearance.

Are You Earthquake-Proof? Sharing Some Sensible Steps to Safety

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Natural disasters happen all over the world and this can cause devastation to our lives and properties in which we live. We all know that natural disasters are caused by nature and we cannot do anything to prevent it from hitting us. But, we can learn about its causes and the things we need to know to be more prepared when such disasters come.

Earthquake is one type of a natural disaster. According to Wikipedia, earthquake is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. The movements of the plates in the earth’s crust cause them. These plates do not always move smoothly and can get stuck, causing a build-up of pressure. It is when this pressure is released that an earthquake occurs. In turn, an earthquake under the water can also cause a tsunami, as the quake causes great waves by pushing large volumes of water to the surface.

Flooding in the Philippines: Nature’s Wrath or Man-made Repercussions.

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Typhoon Yolanda… Ondoy… Habagat… These three caused so much flooding in the Philippines that destroyed not only material things but had also taken away so many lives. Whose fault is it? What this brought by nature or by our own selfish desires?

In cases like those mentioned above, the story of Noah where it rained for 40 days and 40 nights always come to my mind. After the rain nothing was left except for those people and animals that stayed in the ark. When the flood subsided, they saw the rainbow- a symbol of God’s promise that He’ll never again let such thing happen to the world.

The story made me a firm believer that the flood we experienced are man-made and at the same time nature’s wrath but it will never be God’s desire. We took advantage of the wealth of our environment. We abuse it through illegal logging, development of subdivisions and our consumerist way of thinking. We forgot our responsibility so in the end nature takes its own course.

Ideal Role Model

Wazzup Pilipinas!

When we say role model, it is someone you admire or try to emulate. Your role model is someone you appreciate for their character. He inspires you to strive harder, give your best, and not give up.

The first thing that would pop in your head may be a sports figure; probably a political leader; most likely a celebrity or someone who made extraordinary actions. You could probably cite a few names of people you adore without batting an eye.

Should We Abolish the PDAF or Pork Barrel Funds?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

People in different walks of life have been arguing and protesting about the Priority Development Assistance Fund, a government program most commonly known as PORK BARREL. It is how the money/funds of lawmakers and congressmen is being divided and spent to support their chosen projects.

But is it really the Pork Barrel that is evil? Or is it the system itself that makes it a source of corruption? Or yet, there's just really greedy officials that gave the word a unlikely description?

Pork Barrel per se connotes negativity but with continous study of the subject, I came to realize that many of our countrymen benefit from it such as scholarships, medical assistance, support for poor farmers and legitimate non-government organizations.

Senior Business Fair 2014 !!!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It was a success when we had the Senior Business Fair last December. We really enjoyed and had fun  for the recently concluded activity. Our section is named as "Boom T Berz".

Our president divided my classmates in different stations. One group is responsible for cooking, another is for entertaining the costumers and lastly there are the so called "delivery boys".

Boom T Berz offered different kinds of entertainment but our main attraction is that we rented for a videoke and many costumers enjoyed it. Here are some pictures that showed the true meaning of FUN.

Bicycle Implementation on our Streets

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Should the government implement bicycle lanes on our streets?

Our nation has come to an age of modernization where accelerating machines and simple ones co-exist. Bicycles on the other hand, fall on the latter category: a simple one yet economical. Bicycle is one of the easiest means of transportation. Above anything else, biking reduces carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and promotes healthy lifestyle to the ones who used them.

The Bicycle Act of 2011 (Senate Bill No. 2688) invokes that main roads and highways shall have at least bicycle lanes as per the mandate of the LBO. The bill also indicates the right, restrictions, regulations and incentives of the cyclist. It also indicates the right use of bicycle parts to ensure the safety within the user’s control. Meanwhile, bicycle lanes are installed along EDSA, Remedios circle up to Roxas Avenue, Marcos Highway in Marikina proper and Commonwealth Avenue.

Am I Safe on the Streets?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The word “safety” can be defined as the state or condition of being protected from risks or danger, but we all know that safety is more than just a word, because in reality, it is an assurance that we can live a happy and secured life.

Sometimes, the social safety of a person depends on his habiliment, attitude, and choices.Generally, a man's safety is defined by his own actions.

The streets that we are referring in the title is not taken literally, we can also refer to the crowded or non-illuminated ones.
The pictures displayed are taken during night time because that is when we feel most vulnerable to danger and risks especially on the road.

The first photo shows a man who sleeps under the foot bridge near a funfair, of course, one of the things that will be questioned is his safety. How could he sleep so tight? Because if we look at the bigger picture of his environment, the funfair is very crowded, full of noise, and maybe, people with wicked minds. We can also see that this man shows weakness and senility.

Pets are those animals that are very dear to us. Dogs, cats and birds are the common pets that people have. There are reptiles like snakes, lizards etc. that they consider as pet. I guess you have a dog or a cat or a bird in your house. These are pets. Taking care of pets is like taking care of a newborn baby. You must really take care of it to keep them healthy and alive. Taking "Selfies" : Fun and Self-Gratifying

Wazzup Pilipinas!

1, 2, 3 ClICK! Taking pictures is one way of treasuring moments. We took pictures because of several reasons. And some of these are that a sight is beautiful, eye-catching, stunning, spectacular, breathtaking or awesome. Good thing technologies were improved to capture happenings instantly. But there’s this one type of taking pictures of oneself that gets viral through social networking sites. It is what they called “SELFIE”.

It is surprising how people easily embrace the way of taking selfies. I even saw lots of selfie pictures in FB, Instagram and Twitter. People enjoys taking selfie of themselves with various expressions like “fresh from bath”, “Just walk up”, “OOTD (Outfit Of The Day)” , fierce and wacky poses. This way made taking selfie enjoyable. And possibly, the compliments people get from the pictures they posted makes selfie more fun to do.

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The photo says it all. No amount of denial could make us believe there's no relationship between the two.

Even after their denial of a romantic relationship between them, Coleen Garcia and Billy Crawford were seen together apparently watching a basketball match between Brooklyn Nets versus Milwaukee Bucks last December 27 at Barclays Arena in New York.

The ABS-CBN It's Showtime hosts were rumored to be dating and the cause of the sensationalized break-up between Billy Crawford and singer/actress Nikki Gil.

Should We Ban Junk Food from School Canteens?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It's parents' responsibility to feed their children healthy foods. They make sure that the baon for their children is healthy as possible. But because of technology, many instant foods, junk foods and unhealthy foods are freely distributed or being sold. Surprisingly, even school canteens offer it. The question is, Should we ban junk foods from school canteen?

In my opinion, a very big YES! Junk means Cheap, shoddy, or worthless. Would you allow your children eat those worthless chips?

Is it proper for the school to offer them if those food will make their student sick or unhealthy? It's given that junk foods are delicious but the consequences are bigger and more damaging. The nutrients like vitamins and minerals are too less in junk foods while the amount of calories are more. It contains salt and heavy sugar. Both are called white poison in the body. Eating so much of these result in hormonal imbalance, obesity, stunted growth and many diseases.

Those are the bad effects of junk foods so why would the canteens offer them. The students will be affected. Even their study habits will turn bad, more absents because of sickness and slow learning. The government should promote Healthy Living.

47 Ronin: Heroes. Warriors. Legends.

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Among the best-known tales in Japanese history, the legend of the 47 Ronin and their epic mission to avenge their disgraced master epitomizes the samurai code of honor. It has been said, "To know the story of the 47 Ronin is to know Japan."

Retold through the ages, the legend that previously came to the comics in a meticulously researched and beautifully illustrated miniseries from Mike Richardson, Stan Sakai, and editorial consultant Kazuo Koike, is now also a Hollywood movie starring our favorite The Matrix lead actor.

Recounting this sweeping tale of honor and violence in all its grandeur detailing the tragic incident that would seal the fate of Lord Asano and set forty-seven of his vassals on a years-long path of vengeance!

Political Dynasty: Why We Should Stop Voting for Them

Wazzup Pilipinas!

A Layer for Mayor, a Layer for Governor. Aren’t you tired of rulers with the same surnames? We can see it every weekday night through the tv show Honesto. We know the things that they did from their campaign to their service. Well what can you say about it? It’s a Political Dynasty for sure.

Political Dynasties have their pros but if you will look at it more closely, their cons could cover up their pros. What are some of those cons, you may ask, are the following:

1. A political dynasty can exist as long as it can.
2. A political dynasty can make a family too much powerful.
3. A political dynasty can cause only one family to rule, thus making other parties lose their chance to serve.
4. A political dynasty can engage in corruption.
5. A political dynasty may silence a person who is willing to serve, thus making others to be afraid of competing against them.

Piracy: Do You Think You Can Stop It?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Movies and songs are everywhere. You can download it straight from the internet without even spending a single penny. The reason why they’re within our reach? ...PIRACY! This issue is not new. Authorities tried to put an end to it and get rid of the people behind this crime but it seems like there’s nothing they can do about this.

Let me just call those people behind this as PIRATES. I think Pirates are not even threatened by the punishments and the consequences they may get when the government proved them guilty. They seem to be so confident and brave and proud.

Why did I say so? Because pirated movies and songs are still abundant. They are still everywhere. There are still plenty of websites offering free but pirated copies these. Well, for us consumers, it’s a good thing ‘cause we can watch latest movies and jam with our favorite songs with just a single click. But for others, it’s unfair.

Everything's Going Instant: Processed, Canned, Artificial and 3-in-1s

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Everything’s going Instant. People nowadays are always in a hurry, going to work, school or any other activities that take place in our everyday life. With the help of technology, companies were able to come up with an easy way to cope up with these situations. They have produced products that are readily available for us consumers.

Advertisements in the television show products which can be cooked or eaten immediately. Examples are Instant noodles, 3-in-one coffees, canned goods, processed meat, etc. These products usually look and taste good, which makes them very demanding.

The production of these said products involve processes that may have changed the quality of these foods. Yes, adding preservatives, artificial flavoring and artificial coloring makes these products more delicious. But shouldn’t we also consider the risk of in taking these chemicals?
