Minimal Disruption From Super Typhoon Yolanda

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Super typhoon Yolanda caused minimal disruption on Globe Telecom's operations in central and southern part of the country despite strong winds and heavy rains brought by the weather disturbance.

As of 12 noon Friday, about 20% of the Globe Telecom’s network in the Visayas region has been adversely affected by the super typhoon. The typhoon also caused disruption in about 6% of its network in the Mindanao area, said Robert Tan, Globe Chief Technical Adviser.

The adverse impact on sites in the Visayas region was due mostly to commercial power interruption following strong winds brought by typhoon Yolanda. Some cell sites were also affected by misalignment of antennas due to gusty winds brought by the weather anomaly, Tan said.

Life of a Pascian Student

Wazzup Pilipinas!

If you heard the word "Pascian", what is the first thing that will come into your mind?

Many people might think, they are the scholarship students who strive and study hard to maintain their grades, while others might think, they are the students who always act all high and mighty just because they can maintain an average grade that is not lower than eighty-five.

How about you, what is your opinion?...The former or the latter?

When I first heard that I passed the entrance exam and will study in Pasig City Science High School, I had the opposite reaction, instead of being ecstatic and patting myself on the back, I got very sad, and I know you're thinking who in his or her right mind will apply to a school when you have no interest in it. Well in my defense, my mother was the one who pushed me into taking the entrance exam.

I did not expect to pass the exam neither did I expect that I will be fifty-fifth in ranking. But after some thinking I came up with a decision,... why not try it? Maybe there is a reason why I passed the exam.

I've been to the same beach before this same year but this was the best experience so far. The three fun-filled days of surf, yoga and samba was extremely an amazing and entertaining weekend.

Gloria Diaz Promotes Neurogen-E with "Life In Your Hands" Campaign

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Gloria Diaz, the very first Miss Universe from the Philippines, is actively promoting Neurogen-E with the "Life In Your Hands" campaign.

Stregthening its resolve to curb the discomfort of nerve-aging among Filipinos, Neurogen-E has recently launched "Life In Your Hands" campaign, an advocacy program that seeks to touch the lives of mature Filipino women through initiatives that enable them to do more and be more.

Statistics say that 40.5% of the elderly suffer from nerve damage attributed to deficiency in Vitamin B12, the vitamin responsible for nerve regeneration and growth. Numbness, tingling sensations and burning pain in the hands and feet may progress to total loss of sensation which will eventually hamper the elderly from living a full and active life.

Bar-B-Screw-U : The Story of the Resto That Tried to Go Cheap-O

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Never in my life have I encountered such a restaurant where the management was a strange group of weird and struggling entrepreneurs.

I received an invitation on Facebook by this lady to visit a new restaurant in Timog Avenue corner Tomas Morato to try out their food. Below was her message:

"Hi there, a good friend of mine just opened a resto at Timog Ave in QC and I'm doing a bit of social media stuff for him. This is the first of its kind restaurant in the Philippines so I thought you might want to be one of the first bloggers to review it? Here is the facebook page of the resto with some pictures and videos.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bar-B-Screw-U/ If you want to come experience this new concept and do a review, let me know and I'll arrange a visit for you and a friend. Or if you prefer, just visit the resto in your own time. We are happy to provide a giveaway to your readers too, maybe we can discuss ideas about how we can work together? Look forward to hearing from you."

Facebook's Internet-for-All Advocacy via P100,000 Donation to a Global Filipino School in Bohol

Wazzup Pilipinas!

As part of its collaboration with Facebook and in support of the social networking site's internet-for-all advocacy, leading telecommunications company Globe Telecom turned over P100,000 to Bilar National High School to help rebuild the school which was damaged by the recent earthquake and to ensure that the students would have continuous access to technology and internet services.

"Similar to the vision of Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg to bring the entire world online, Globe also has an advocacy to make Internet access a reality to more and more Filipinos especially those in the rural areas. For over a decade now, we have been providing internet connection to public elementary and high schools across the country to givethe studentsan opportunity to keep up with what is happening in the rest of the world," said Fernando Esguerra, OIC, Globe Corporate Social Responsibility.

Esguerra said Globe has chosen BNHS to be the recipient of the financial assistance since it houses the Global Filipino School, an ICT center of excellence which Globe turned over to the Department of Education last year. It consists of an ICT laboratory with 24 specialized desktop computers and laptops connected to the internet.

Master Chefs 2013 Barangay Cooking Challenge Final Cook Off : When Cooks Become Master Chefs

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I think I was the only blogger who accepted the invitation of the SM Hypermarket Cubao - Master Chefs 2013 Barangay Cooking Challenge Final Cook Offs. There were plenty of us during the initial media launch of the competition but I was all alone during the grand finale.

I was at the Cubao branch to witness the branch's 8 finalists take on the challenge as these finalists from the different barangays in the area display their knowledge in and outside the kitchen.

The competition was done in two batches as 4 challengers face each other per batch and three chefs judging their final dish for the day. Acting as judges were Chef Hasset Go, Chef Enrico Magtanong and Chef Paolo Sia.

Individuals from the barangay, assisted by one SM Hypermarket Customer Assistants each, bought ingredients from the grocery that must not exceed an amount of Php 500 to match with a recipe for a dish that must include broccoli and CDO Ulam Burger. They have to complete the dish within one (1) hour only.

I was impressed that a challenger was able to prepare three dishes, and that the three chefs seemed to be impressed.

Options for Gateway Airport Roadmap to 2040 to Be Presented to President Aquino - DOTC

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) is set to present the options for establishing the country’s gateway airports from the present until 2040 to President Benigno S. Aquino III tomorrow, 6 November 2013.

“We will present two options for modernizing our gateway airport system, which will show the world that we are preparing to be one of the top global tourist destinations for the next few decades,” remarked Abaya.

According to a 2011 study by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), annual passenger forecasts for the Greater Capital Region, which covers the National Capital Region and Regions 3 and 4A, will rise from 49.8-million in 2020, to 75-million in 2030, up to 106.7-million in 2040. In 2012, total traffic was already at 31.879-million.

To meet these expected volumes, the DOTC has identified two viable options, both of which will involve the expansion of Clark International Airport (CIA), as well as the development of a new international airport roughly within 20-30 minutes of Metro Manila, to be fully operational by 2027.

The 2 options differ insofar as the fate of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is concerned.

Plant Tour at Cemex and Re-visiting Rizal’s Place

IMG_4886

Wazzup Pilipinas !!!

Last October 25, 2013, Press and Media together with On-line Bloggers visit the factory and see how cement was being done and process on their Quarry at San Jose, Antipolo City.

A nation is progressing when you see many constructions within the metro or even in the remotest part of a nation. With our case the Philippines, we have seen multi structures of constructions, malls , condominiums , townhouses, and even houses of any types this days on every part of the country which you cannot even imagine . Thus should be reconsidered as one that will carry a nations economy to go up in its state.

That’s why CEMEX has been in a long time was prepared in catching up for the technology upgrades and more alternatives other that coal just to meet the industry’s need for cement be it in bags or bulks.

The province of Rizal amply addresses cement supply for major portions of Luzon’s high-growth areas. This cement production can be attributed to CEMEX Philippines, a building solutions provider which operates its Solid Cement Plant in Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City.

“We understand that cement demand is continuously rising,” said Sherwin San Pablo, Solid Cement Plant director. “Luzon isn’t just the biggest island in the Philippines; it is also home to plenty of thriving and rising commercial and urban areas. Therefore, there is an undeniably huge demand for cement here. And we are proud that the Solid Plant is more than capable of supporting it.”

IMG_4993

The Solid Cement Plant centers its operational framework on sustainability and improving community welfare. The temperature is so hot on this area where coal is being grinded and heated and transformed into alternative fuels

IMG_4995

The state-of-the-art facility uses alternative sources of energy like refuse derived fuel, raw rice husks, and waste plastics. Moreover, it will soon utilize a waste-heat process that converts heat in the kiln to electricity, which generates enough power to support 1/3 of the plant’s energy supply.

In addition to its sustainable products and processes, the cement manufacturer also promotes plant and road safety. The company has hundreds of employees working inside the plant on a daily basis. At the same time, it also has hundreds of trucks making deliveries around Luzon.

Since establishing its safety, as well as quality and environmental management systems, as early as a few years after CEMEX Philippines entered the country in 1997, Solid has been able to significantly reduce industrial accidents and road incidents. Moreover, safety and environmental awareness has developed into a culture that all CEMEX employees, workers or drivers carry with them even after they have clocked out from their shift.

IMG_4074

“Everybody at CEMEX is committed to being part of nation building. So whether it is innovating and manufacturing products, supplying demand, reducing our carbon footprint and being environmentally-conscious,  or looking out for the safety of our people and those around us, we are determined to be of service to the country,” said San Pablo.

After the tour , we the Online Media Bloggers group together with the Print and TV Media have a courtesy call from Rizal’s Head of Tourism   OIC Mar B. Bacani through Cemex Official . Mr. Mar discussed about the road widening that has been done in the area, the places that is feasible to go to and even the known Hinulugang Taktak who undergoes rehabilitation and they are hoping that will be back on its normal condition.

The night that will surely stand out and trend.
Get ready for the new experience.
NEW NAME, SAME GAME. Save the date!
This is #SMVANight2013!

It’s bigger, better, and more explosive! The School of Visual and Multimedia Arts will soon hold its college night this November at Palacio de Maynila on November 28, 2013 at 5 pm !

The event’s theme this year revolves around the Pop Art Movement, and is dubbed “POParazzi”. As pop art took its toll in the movement of advertising, the organizers as Multimedia Artists aim to also be a movement as well; a movement for social change through the arts.

As part of the events program line up, the organizers are having a pageant search with 12 pairs of candidates wherein they will compete as the first Mr. & Ms. SMVA 2013.

This will also be a fund raising event to help an Aeta Community with their educational needs.

Future X Saturday Market @ Escolta Number 9

Wazzup Pilipinas!

There's going to be a fun arts, vintage and artist-made market happening at Escolta on November 16 starting at 9 am.

The Future X Saturday Market is a bazaar, garage sale, thrift shop, black market and meeting place.  Artists, craft makers, designers and hoarders sell their wares: from artworks, limited edition or hand-made clothes, bags, jewellery, accessories, toys, zines, CDs, stickers, cookies to unwanted things.  Supporting the Future Market helps enable these individuals to sustain their art practice.

The event is organized by 98b - a community + network + library + kitchen + shop. Established in January 2012 as a response to the need for alternative art and creative venues in Manila, 98B is a setting where artists and creative individuals from other disciplines can interact and work together while presenting art and other creative endeavors in different ways; be it a talk, a bazaar, a publication, a meal or a simple gathering.

Happy Bread Day : The Gardenia Bread Town and The Next Big Sandwich Hit

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Gardenia Happy Bread Day event was held at the Gardenia Bread Town that was built inside the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati. The event was supposed to start at around 10 am but a lot of the booths were still completing their setup during that time. I brought my wife and my youngest child at the event where they enjoyed the differnet booths offering fun and exciting opportunities to taste and win Gardenia products and merchandises.

Aside from being able to buy Gardenia breads at factory prices, the numerous booths around Gardenia Bread Town offered free Gardenia bread samples tasting so you'll definitely be full already if you've tasted all of the said bread samples. In fact, we only took our lunch a few hours after lunch time because we were all satisfied already with all those yummy breads we were able to sample.

It was a whole day event filled with loads of activities for both the young and old alike. Prizes at stake were Gardenia designed shirts, pot-holders, products from other co-sponsors and of course lots of bread from Gardenia.

Thor : The Dark World in Digital 3D Special Blocked Screening

Wazzup Pilipinas!

True believers have witnessed the God of Thunder at the special blocked screening of Thor : The Dark World in Digital 3D. We did not only see the man in action flexing his muscles at the sight of the enemies and throwing the Mjolnir hammer but he also had a scene partly stripped showing his enormous figure from the waist up!

Marvel fans out there rejoiced not only for Thor but for the rest of the cast.....and weird as it may seem, even for Loki, the half-brother of Thor who somehow made a whats seemed to be a noble effort to help out this brother and their kingdom called Asgard.

....and oh yeah! There was another cameo, as usual by Stan Lee, at a scene in a mental institution.

A Surprise Wedding Proposal at One Pacific Place

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Just imagine for a moment, a young lady getting proposed to by her boyfriend in front of friends, colleagues and relatives, in the middle of what she thought was a different celebration through a video uploaded on the guy's Facebook account. But it was a real surprise treat when she found out everyone else knew it was going to happen that day. It's like the whole world ganged up on her to make her day a truly memorable one!!!

You know it’s good and real when a surprise marriage proposal is made from a totally different country all the way to the Philippines, and all your loved ones contributed to make your soon-to-be-very-special day a success - now that's EFFORT with all caps!!!

It was quite an elaborate setup with special thanks to all the people who came and helped out - and tried their best to keep it a secret to the bride-to-be.

Experiencing the Spirit to Serve at the Philippine National School for the Blind

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Caring for the disabled members of our society should always be a prime concern not only of the government and private corporations but also of all individuals. Most of these people were born with the disabilities, while some met an unfortunate accident. We should therefore make it a point to always give them hope that we are here to help them go through life.

Some of them emerged talented and were recognized joining talent competitions. They have exceptional skills that are worth of a second look and of discovery.

The Philippine National School for the Blind located in the city of Pasay recently got some donations from the Marriott Hotel Manila in the form of some bed linens and kitchen utitlities.

We were invited to take part in the honorable act of social responsibility for our disadvantaged brothers and sisters who are desperately needing our support and concern.
