Breakfast at True Deli with Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr

Wazzup Pilipinas!

No kidding! My son and I had breakfast with Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

This festive morning ritual happened last May 3, 2015 at True Deli restaurant located at the Victoria building near GMA-Kamuning EDSA MRT station.

Hearing the date, I guessed you already know that this was during the big "fight of the century" but since Manny Pacquiao lost to Mayweather, I got so sad that this article took several days before I could even write about the very sad day for many Filipinos.

We were all too confident our Pambansang Kamao will win but unfortunately, the Pacman was not as aggressive as we expected. I think everyone wanted a more thrilling pound for pound match between the two. More like when Super Saiyan Goku fought with Vegeta at Dragonball Z TV shows - that was the more likely expectations of the majority but the 12 rounds ended with both men still up on their feet with very little bruises on their faces.

Going back to our morning meal, it was a buffet breakfast of lomi soup, sweet beef tapa, milk fish "bangus" belly, hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs and omelets (more eggs). I couldn't eat more than one plate full since I am on a diet. But honestly, the breakfast choices was not really my kind of treat. I wanted more like hotcakes and waffles, maybe cereals with milk...but wait,,...we were advised it was going to be a true Filipino meal so maybe they could have added the tasty and crispy danggit in the menu.

The menu was worth the IK entrance fee to see the fight since the place was cozy enough, and the marvelously huge and curved LED TVs were so awesome to look at. The temperature at the room was comfortably cool, and for those who want some outdoor but roofed viewing experience, they also offered seats right beside the swimming pool located at the back of the restaurant.

All in all they had three large TV monitors offering the best possible viewing of the #MayPac fight.

We ordered extra coffee for myself and hot choco drink for my son who I brought along since the occasion allowed me to bring a plus one that was not really required to be a blogger. The dining area was also beside the pool where the buffet table was located. We were not allowed to eat while we watched the fight maybe because they wouldn't want the crowd to spill their food or drinks inside when they started getting wild cheering for Pacquiao and booing Mayweather.

1K per person seemed fair enough because we get to see the fight in real time. While locala channel viewers are still watching the early rounds, we at the True Deli restaurant already knew who won.... that ad moment when everyone in the room got so silent and speechless as if surprised and totally shocked Manny lost due to an unanimous decision in favor of Mayweather.

It is expected that there will be a lot of instant boxing analyst showing up in our social media feeds and timeline immediately after the fight. That is another expectation that continued to be a reality for many of us Filipinos who cannot easily accept defeat and accuse the winner of cheating.

Was there a boxing mafia? Was the fight rigged? Did many received handsome payments in return for a favorable result for the "Money" that is Mayweather?

What was a lot fascinating was when the crowd at MGM Grand Arena booed Mayweather when he was acting as if he won the fight already minutes before the announcement of winner was made.

Many of the viewers at True Deli were not satisfied with the results so maybe we never got our money's worth, but since we got a satisfied stomach filed with Filipino breakfast treats, and we got to watch the fight via an amazing LED monitor, we can have something worthwhile to remember at the true deli restaurant where we may have lost in the fight, but was fulfilled with the Filipino breakfast buffet.

Thanks True Deli for such an amazing brekkie... now let's just wait for Manny to recover and he'll probably soon give Mayweather another challenge.
