Time Stands Still is Red Turnip Theater's Second Season Finale

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Red Turnip Theater's founders have recently organized a press conference last January 6, 2015 to launch their season finale play entitled 'Time Stands Still,' another heralded play from Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Donald Marguilles.

At the Pink Panda South East Asian Diner located at the Y2 Residences Hotel that's just beside A. Venue Mall in Makati Avenue, the amazing team of Ana Abad Santos, Toper Fabregas, Ren Zamora, Jenny Jamora and Cris Villonco were excited to share their new production featuring Nonie Buencamino, Nor Domingo, Giannina Ocampo and Ana Abad Santos.

We've seen the success of their previous productions namely 'Rabbit Hole' from this season, as well as 'Closer' and 'Cock' from the first season, so we are so curious of what they have in store for us for their newest play to open this coming January 30, 2015 until March 8, 2015 at Whitespace in Pasong Tamo, Makati.

'Time Stands Still' was a hit when it premiered on Broadway in 2009 and was brought back for a second run the very same year. It also garnered two Tony nominations for Best Play and Best Performance by a Leading Actress for Laura Linney.

'Time Stands Still'  will tell the story of Sarah, a photojournalist played by Ana Abad Santos, who must return home with her journalist boyfriend James, played by Noni Buencamino, after sustaining injuries from war-torn Middle East. The play follows their love story as they negotiate a more ordinary life, far from the thrills of the battleground. Yet the comforts of urban domesticity - the simple pleasures and small compromises - can be a minefield of its own.

If 'Rabbit Hole' dealt with grief after a loss in the family, 'Time Stands Still' is all about choices we should make. This latest play is about responsibility - to ourselves, to our loved ones, to our community, and to our world. That sounds familiar for everyone as we all deal with the same dilemma throughout our lifetime.

Completing the cast is the couple's longtime friend Richard, played by Nor Domingo, and his much younger girlfriend Mandy, played by Giannina Ocampo.

This will be Rem Zamora's second directorial project for Red Turnip Theater after the previous season's 'Cock.' He said he is quite excited because now he has a set to play with. "But seriously, it's totally different script compared to 'Cock'. It's wonderful because it's so quiet."

We've had opportunities to interview the 'Time Stands Still' casts and  Red Turnip Theater founders alternately but more intimate and up close so we were able to ask our own personal questions pertaining to their preparations, preferences, challenges, dream roles, and other related topics with regards to theater acting.

I for one asked some of them if they find roles that opposes their own viewpoints easier to portray, and they were keen to the idea that playing a totally different personality is more fun and challenging.

Since they are quite a small cast, its is more convenient to schedule rehearsals where they can master their lines more effectively if all cast are present and participative. With still a few weeks to go before the first run, the cast is bound to give us another successful play as I can see how they easily click with each other.

We could also see how super eager Giannina Ocampo is with regards to working with the cast and founders maybe because she is of a different age bracket from the rest of the cast. This could mean balancing out the seniority and newbie status among the cast as they all emerge outstanding in their performance. Nothing beats enthusiasm in blending in perfectly well with the experienced masters of theater.

Be sure to allow them the opportunity to amaze you with this latest masterpiece that's bound to be another hit for Red Turnip Theater. We are thus excited as well for their 3rd season for more promising productions showcasing talents that should be rewarded with well-deserve recognition.
