Miss Tourism Philippines 2017 Media Presentation

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Miss Tourism Philippines 2017 candidates were recently presented to members of the media on July 19, 2017 at Astoria Plaza Hotel in Mandaluyong.

Congratulations to Miss Palawan, Sharla Santillan, as Darling of the Press, and Miss Umingan, Pangasinan, Sofia Grace Lopez Galve, as Miss Congeniality.

The Miss Photogenic award will be revealed on the coronation night.

We have to commend Miss Amy Abarquez, together with her husband and other partners, for successfully

The media presentation held a short program first at the 2nd level of the hotel where they also answered the inquiries of the media. Since the beauty pageant has the word "Tourism" as part of the title for the emerging beauty queen, my question to them was that if they have formed a close working relationship with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) so that all candidates could be well-informed of all prime and even not so popular tourist spots so that all candidates will be knowledgeable not only of the city of province they represent but also of the rest of the country.

There has been so many innovations and initiatives that could very well be helpful for the candidates in finding out more about the Philippines so they could be very good ambassadress of tourism. Since Miss Amy preferred to have an ambassadress who's knowledgeable about tourism, I believe that the candidates would do well if they were given sort of a refresher course at least about the top tourist spots in the country so when they engage with people who ask them about similar topics, they would know what to answer.

After the Question and Answer, the media were requested to proceed to the 3rd level where the pool is located. That was where the candidates were presented wearing their flattering swimsuit. The lovely ladies seemingly did a catwalk at the side of the pool while behind them were the logos of Astoria and Miss Tourism Philippines. Astoria is one of the proud sponsors of the pageant.

The special awards, of course, could never be a sure indication of who would win in the grand coronation night as each and every candidate would still have a good chance especially if the lie-up of judges would have differing taste.  Eventhough, we see a few favorites already that often win special awards, the final winners would still be unpredictable especially when they pass through the dreaded Question and Answer portion, where intellect and knowledge of tourism-related topics would surely be among the requirements for the ultimate beauty queen who would be called Miss Tourism Philippines 2017.
