Projects Expected To Improve Metro Manila’s Transport Infrastructure

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The past months have been eventful for the Philippine transport industry. Both the public and private sectors announced proposals or already approved plans for upcoming infrastructure projects, which observers believe will not only extend development outside Metro Manila but will help improve the quality of life of millions of Filipino commuters.

Lamudi Philippines has listed down these infra projects and the reasons why they tick. These upcoming and soon-to-be-completed projects will improve the capital’s transport infrastructure, and may well be helping the real estate industry.

C5 Modern Bus Rapid Transit
The National Economic and Development Authority’s Investment Coordination Committee has just green-lighted this Php6.403 billion of the Department of the Transportation and Communications, whose objective is to link Parañaque, Taguig, Makati, Quezon City, and Valenzuela via a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system along C5 Road. Upon completion, this system will ease traffic flow in and between the aforementioned cities, and make commutes easier.

LRT-2 Extension

Initiated last June 9, the LRT-2 extension project will extend the current line from Santolan in Pasig City all the way to Masinag in Antipolo City, Rizal. This project will not only alleviate vehicular traffic along the major roads it will traverse, it will also make commuting between Antipolo and Cainta in Rizal Province and eastern Metro Manila, particularly the Cubao and Libis areas of Quezon City, easier. This project is important as thousands of Antipolo and Cainta residents work in the Philippine capital.

Cavite–Laguna Expressway (CALAX)

Expected to ease traffic in the areas between Cavite and Laguna, the Cavite–Laguna Expressway (CALAX) is a 47-kilometer-long proposed expressway that will connect CAVITEX in Kawit with SLEX at the Mamplasan area. Although the initial bidding conducted in 2014 was declared a failure, in the tightly contested rebidding, Metro Pacific Investments Corp. edged out its competitor San Miguel Corp. by submitting a premium bid of Php27.3 billion.

Already property developers are seeing the potential benefit of this massive infrastructure project; many with land-banks in the areas the expressway will serve are already unveiling projects in anticipation of higher demand from property buyers.

Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3

Expected to lessen travel time between the intersection of Buendia Avenue and Osmeña Highway in Makati and Balintawak in Quezon City, the 14.8-kilometer elevated expressway will decongest vehicular traffic along EDSA and C5 Road—currently the only thoroughfares motorists take when traveling from South Luzon Expressway to the North Luzon Expressway.

Scheduled for completion in 2017, this six-lane expressway will have exits in Quirino Avenue, Nagtahan, Aurora Blvd., E. Rodriguez Ave., Quezon Ave., Sgt. Rivera, and Balintawak, which will increase property values in these areas as a result of easy access from the Makati CBD.
