Alay Sining 6 : Fifty Top Filipino Sculptors Raise Funds for the Gift of Life Program

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It is amazing that many individuals are using their gifted skills and creativity to help out their fellow individuals. i would love to be able to help my countrymen using God's given talent and be able to extend the life of children with Congenital Heart Disease to enjoy more of their hopeful years.

About 50 of the top and up-and-coming sculptors are joining what has become the country’s biggest and most important sculpture event, Alay Sining 6, which is set to open on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Grand Ballroom on the 3rd floor of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and continued on Wednesday, November 20, and Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the Clipper Lounge at the 2nd floor of the same hotel.

This sixth edition of Alay Sining is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Makati West in partnership with the sculptors and, like the previous five editions, is aimed at helping raise funds for the club’s Gift of Life Program to sponsor the open-heart operations of children from poor families afflicted with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD).

“Some 2,000 plus children are born with CHD every year and the waiting list for life-saving operations is long – and getting longer. Thanks to the sculptors’ participation in Alay Sining, we have been able through our Gift of Life Program to help save the lives of nearly 300 children so far. This is why we have chosen for our theme ‘Art with a Heart’,” said RCMW president Antonio A.L. Lopez.

“But there are thousands more children with CHD who could die if they do not undergo the operation soon. This is why I would like to appeal to all our countrymen to come and buy sculptures in Alay Sining 6. They will not only be able to save so many children’s lives. They will also be able to enhance the beauty of their offices and homes, and see the value of the sculptures increase over the years since Filipino sculptors have shown that they are among the best in the world,” Lopez pointed out.

Guests of honor who will cut the ceremonial ribbon during the opening of Alay Sining 6 are National Artist for Visual Arts Napoleon Abueva, National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario, National Artist for Visual Arts Arturo Luz, Senator Cynthia Villar, Rotary District 3830 District Governor Robert Kuan, Interior Designer Ivy Almario and Mandarin Oriental Hotel Manager Oliver Kreuzer.

Alay Sining 6 is a project of RCMW’s Culture Committee headed by National Artist for Architecture and past RCMW president I.P. Santos as Chairman and past president Jun Alvendia as Co-Chairman.
