Enchanted Farm Cafe : A Story of Faith, Passion and Love of Country

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Enchanted Farm Cafe is a story of faith, passion and love of country. It is a project originally launched by Gawad Kalinga Center for Social Innovation (CSI) to bridge Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm in Angat, Bulacan to the city market.

Its original concept was to test social enterprise products and to create a platform where GK Enchanted Farm’s organic vegetables could be sold.

The Enchanted Farm Cafe or EFCafe aims to raise social awareness by promoting home-grown business innovations that develop local products while uplifting the lives of the poor. It gives healthy alternative to fast food by offering balanced meals.

It is also a social business platform for entrepreneurs who want to showcase their products. The tagline “Eat For Change” encapsulates its philosophy and mindset of promoting a better future for the Philippines.

The social enterprise revolves around four advocacies:

At first, the Enchanted Farm Cafe proposes a balanced diet consisting of local ingredients that enrich the local economy. The best seller Pinoy Pesto is made with malunggay to feature local crops. Every meal is made with fresh produce and uses organic ingredients. They are served with vegetables and favor low cholesterol components. The Enchanted Burger patty is 80% made of vegetables whereas All Heart Burger is made of banana heart “puso ng saging.”

EFCafe also employs people from underprivileged communities in order to give them training and
sustainable job opportunities. The cafe’s philosophy is directly aligned with Gawad Kalinga’s values of caring and sharing.

The cafe also promotes social entrepreneurship in the Philippines. It has a shopping area for social enterprise products and holds CSI Nights (event about social entrepreneurship) every Wednesday at 7:30pm. The best social products are sold in the cafe: the all-natural tea Bayani Brew, Theo &hilo artisan chocolate and the first food grade salted duck egg, Golden Egg.

EFCafe advocates for a sustainable agriculture that is free from chemical fertilizer and pesticide by sourcing organic ingredients from Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm and farming cooperatives. It contributes to the countryside development in a sustainable way and protects both the environment and our farmers from unknown threats.

The EFCafe intends to expand and will open a new branch in Cebu within the end of 2013.

Theo&Philo artisan chocolate aims to develop the cacao industry in the Philippines. It uses cacao from Davao and sugar from Bacolod.

Golden Egg is the first food grade salted duck egg in the market. It uses yellow turmeric to replace the common textile colorant which is carcinogenic. The eggs are prepared in Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm in Bulacan.

Bayani Brew is the social enterprise that produces all-Filipino, all-delicious, all-nutritious iced tea! “Brewing a generation of Filipinos crazy in love with our country”

The Enchanted Burger is one of the best sellers of the Cafe. It is made with 20% meat and 80% vegetables.

The Pinoy Pesto is the best seller of the Cafe. It is a pesto made with malunggay.
