Alice Reyes Returns as Artistic Director of Ballet Philippines in April 2017

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Coming full circle, Ballet Philippines’ founder, National Artist for Dance, Alice Reyes steps back into the company’s helm as Artistic Director starting this 48th season.

“It is our great honor to welcome Alice back,” says BP President Margie Moran Floirendo. “She has generously given the company much support especially over the past few years. We felt that this was the perfect time for her to take on a more active role in the company’s overall planning and direction, particularly in leading us to our 50th season in 2019.”

“I am elated to be coming in at this most opportune time,” says Alice Reyes. “The company is two short years away from its golden anniversary, and so this is a fantastic chance to start drumming up the energy and keep it up even beyond the 50th season.”

Alice Reyes is the visionary founder of Ballet Philippines who propelled the company into a national arts institution we can all be proud of. In the Philippines, she established regular season concerts, professionalized dance as a career, and played a major role in the phenomenal development of dance in the country.

With a background in ballet, folk dancing and jazz, Reyes ventured into the challenging and exciting realm of modern dance. Through a grant from the John D. Rockefeller III Fund, she went through an extensive training period in the United States at the Colorado College under a Hanya Holm scholarship. She was subsequently awarded a grant from the Music Promotion Foundation of the Philippines, which enabled her to study further under leading exponents of the medium and earn a Master of Arts in Dance from the Sarah Lawrence College under its scholarship program.

Upon her return in 1969, she staged her first modern dance concert at the CCP. Its success made her decide to remain in the Philippines and develop the great potential of dance in the country. Since then, her outstanding performances on stage have provided artists an enriching example to emulate. The sheer diversity of her choreographic talent has produced highly acclaimed works ranging from the classics like “Cinderella” and “Romeo and Juliet”, to Filipino modern works like “Amada”, “Itim-Asu”, “Bayanihan Remembered”, “Mga Babae”, “Tales of the Manuvu”, and “Rama Hari”. Through her efforts, dance has become among the country’s respected careers and distinguished professions. The Filipino dancers have emerged as an indispensable part of our cultural heritage.

She served as Ballet Philippines’ Artistic Director for the company’s first 20 years. In June 20, 2014, Alice Reyes was declared National Artist for Dance by President Benigno S. Aquino III through Proclamation No. 807.

Paul Alexander Morales will be on sabbatical leave for the 48th season. He served as Ballet Philippines’ Artistic Director from 2009 to 2017.

Ballet Philippines (BP) is the flagship professional classical and contemporary dance company in the country. A resident company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, it was founded in 1969 by Alice Reyes and Eddie Elejar. It is widely recognized today as a cornerstone of the contemporary Filipino identity. The Ballet Philippines Dance School continues to produce dancers of international caliber.

Working Smarter with Ricoh MFPs

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In these fast-paced times, professionals and office workers are accustomed to multitasking, working with tight deadlines, and taking on projects that require intense creativity and efficiency. Although this may be considered already the norm in the modern-day workplace, many still find it challenging to cope with the demands of their respective dynamic and competitive industries.

Continuously improving the way people work requires simplification of day-to-day processes that may seem menial, but can actually contribute greatly to getting tasks done in faster, easier, and in more cost efficient ways.

One such daily task is the printing of various documents and other materials, ranging from printing for individual consumption, preparing for meetings, to producing materials for events or for mass distribution.

Smarter ways to work

As part of its vision to empower professionals with a new way of working that is tailor-fit to their needs, global imaging and electronics leader RICOH pioneered its innovative Multi-Function Product printer (MFP) models MP C2004SP ,MP C4504SP upto MP C6004SP.

RICOH MFPs present a wide variety of paper and finishing options designed to help users achieve more creative and efficient output. These printers can deliver up to 60 color pages per minute, has an expanded capacity of 2,300 to 4,700 sheets in its stock. Innovatively designed rollers reduce paper curls for more uniform paper stacks and fewer jams.

Users can produce marketing collaterals such as handouts, flyers, brochures, and banners with an excellent print quality of 1,200 x 1,200 dpi. These new printers also do away with manual stapling, and can automatically bind up to five printed pages together with no staple wire using the Hybrid Stapless Finisher—spelling cost and work efficiency.

Fingertip access to information

Featuring a 10.1”-wide touchscreen Smart Operation Panel with intuitive interface, users can swipe, scroll, drag-and-drop, and pinch-flick as they would with their smart phones and tablets to print, scan, copy, and fax using comprehensive applications.

The embedded apps also allow users to simplify and personalize even complex workflows. Repetitive, manual jobs can be bypassed, such as in scanning one’s weekly meeting notes and sharing them with the same pre-entered recipients with a touch from the printer’s home screen.

Moreover, RICOH’s Integrated Cloud Enterprise Solutions allows documents to be saved in a folder or cloud storage such as Google Drive, Dropbox, and Evernote. The RICOH Smart Device Connector App, on the other hand, allows personal mobile devices to connect to the MFPs and print and share information from almost anywhere.

For other tasks such as scanning, RICOH’s 100-sheet automatic reversing document feeder (ARDF) enables sharing of digital information through a multitude of scanning capabilities. The printers can also fax contracts and other forms just as quickly, as faxes can be sent and received between email inboxes to save on paper and transmission costs.

Managing workstyles and eco-efficiency

Further adding value in cost efficiency is RICOH’s EZ Charger Xpress. which is a software that manages individual users or departments’ usage of the printing equipment. An IT administrator can customize automated cost charging for the different users, and set print quotas. This spells utmost convenience for organizations and corporations in managing their paper use, and even helps conserve resources.

For archiving and protection of files, the MFPs can store up to 3,000 frequently used documents in the document server, and files can be retrieved quickly through keyword searches. Access to specific functions can also be restricted, print jobs can be deferred until the author releases them, and watermarks can be added on documents to prevent unauthorized copies of important information.

For RICOH, offering high performance and innovative equipment should always take into account managing environmental impact and energy consumption as well. Hence, the MFPs have a wide range of eco-friendly features, including an in-built human detector sensor that recovers the machine from sleep mode as soon as a user is nearby. Its 0.5 second switch-on time is the fastest in its class.

The RICOH MP C2004SP and MP C4504SP are products of the company’s solution-focused Workstyle Innovation Technology that revolutionizes peoples’ ways of doing things to support them in accomplishing their goals at work.

RICOH products are showcased at its main office in Makati (tel. no. 865-9500) and branches located in Laguna (045-502-7243), and Cebu (032-256-4559). For more information, visit www.ricoh.com.ph
