"A Facebook comment supposedly calling Miss World 2013 Megan Young and Filipinos "poor, filthy maids" triggered online outrage on Tuesday, as screenshots of the alleged post made the rounds on social networking sites.

"Miss Philippines is Miss World? What a joke! I did not know those maids have anything else in them," a certain Devina DeDiva was quoted as saying in the viral photos.

Responding to a comment saying Filipino women are "cute, humble and honest," DeDiva said, "They are poor, smelly from cleaning toilets and uneducated."

"They are less privileged everywhere," she added. "What a joke those people cleaning our toilets won Miss World!"

The account went on to call Filipino girls "easy," as she challenged commenters to air their "baseless opinions."

Placebo Paintings at Galleria Duemila on October 7 to November 2

“Placebo Paintings” stems from the drawn parallelism about thoughts on the act of painting to the empty placebo drug that produces miraculous effects. Painting, itself, is empty in pragmatic functions, but this too, is its oxymoronic reflex, as its inability to define itself makes it viable for various audience to regard its importance.

“Placebo Paintings” recognizes the power of the commonly misunderstood medium, or the empty pursuit of painting, to change views, to take an effect on psyches, and for a momentary but reverberating moment, to pinch a nerve in what is our understood humanity that proves to be moving and inspirational.

Working on the medium of painting for the past two decades, the artist-personnel composing “Placebo Paintings” have wrought the meandering extensions and possibilities of the medium, in their own ways.

Opted strategies have included working on paintings under the microscope of conceptualism. The paintings are done from at least a degree removed stance that necessitates the consideration of the work from the point of view of the artist’s context. The detached aesthetic employed is characterized by wit and humour in its artistic hedonism bordering on the esoteric. The mix is weaved with a preference for the past, opening cracks that romantically filter nostalgic fragments that expand and enrich the hunting grounds of the pursuit.

ManilART 2013 : The Philippines' Biggest Visual Arts Fair

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Everyone of us is all excited to attend the 5th edition of ManilART - the biggest visual art fair of the Philippines. It is now being called as ManilART 2013 : Celebrating Variety.

It gives me great pleasure to see wonderful masterpieces created by many of our remarkable artists, all on display in one magnificent venue for everyone to appreciate.

Clearly, this event will be arousing the interests of many creatively-inclined individuals who favor art passionately. I am one of those that gets easily awed by the creative efforts of our artists especially if their works brings out intense meaning or reflections from the inner soul.

I will never pass an opportunity as awesome as this. This will definitely go to my priority of events list since I have been a lover of the arts since childhood. Call me a frustrated artist who's initial liking of a course was Fine Arts, but many have said that there is no money in art. Because I was young, and still under the care of my parents, I followed their advice and ended up with an Engineering course. Nevertheless, my love for the arts persisted in everything that I do.
