Philippine Volcanoes Meet & Greet at Pioneer Street Market

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Our Philippine national rugby team who are more popularly known as the Philippine Volcanoes recently had a meet and greet with fans at one of the newest foodie haven called Pioneer Street Market located inside the compounds of HMR.

The big guys of this Rugby team can be prominently seen with all those huge muscles and posterior, while the few women composing the female team are also physically buffed and ready to face any opponent in the ultimate aim to win the games they will compete in.

Since I was late in arriving due to the rush hour time of the event, I managed to appreciate only the challenges given to the players after the press conference. They had a Monster Burger eating challenge, and a Beer Drinking challenge, for fun where the emerging winners are still from the Men's team.

We also indulged on the yummy Peri-Peri Chicken meals served by Fuego Amigo along with iced tea as we listened to the husband and wife team providing entertainment with their songs.

I also had the opportunity to dine on the famous Auntie May's Angus Beef Salpicao along with their thirst-quenching lemonade, and brought home a Monster Burger with one huge Australian beef patty. I personally witnessed how it was actually cooked and prepared with all the garnishing from start to finish.

The Volcanoes were there also to announce that the Volcanoes Men's and Women's national 7s rugby team have began high intensity training programs to defend their Southeast Asian (SEA) Games medals. They will participate in a series of international events leading to the 2017 SEA Games to be held in Kuala Lumpur.

The Lady Volcanoes will be the first to have four players tour internationally competing in the Bangkok 7s on November 12 and 13. Both national teams will then look to February where they will compete in two legs at the 2017 Asian 7s series held in both India and Dubai.

The Men Volcanoes, ranked number 1 in Southeast Asia, realizes that the competition next year will be a step up from the previous years. " Asia Rugby is on the rise, each team seems to be getting better every year, we know if we are going to go back-to-back Gold in the SEA Games when we have ensure how preparations are well in advance and of the highest quality" shared Jake Robrigado Letts, Captain of the 2015 Gold Medal Team. "our first step is to finish first place next year in February, which I am confident we can after a silver place finish this year, however in 7s it's unpredictable so we need to make sure we perform at our best over the first two legs in Dubai and India" Letts added.

The Philippine Rugby Football Union (PRFU) has two national youth programs that are also aimed to identify more talent for the games. For the Men's, the Philippines will host Korea, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates for the 2016 U19 Asia Rugby Championships in December. The Women's will play in an U19s National Development Series for the first time against Hong Kong in manila on January 26 and 29.

"The U19 youth programs identify players for both teams, only the top players will graduate to the Men's and Women's National 7s Programs. These players are crucial for nurturing young talents to compete in the future SEA Games" Matthew Cullen, Director of Rugby for the Philippine Rugby Football Union shared.
