Dinner in the Dark from Zoomanity for the Benefit of the Eye Bank Foundation

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Zoomanity group has started bringing us "Dinner in the Dark", an activity that is already popular in some countries because of the uncanny situation that will leave most people learning to appreciate our sight more, and understanding the state of the blind handicaps.

The honorable program, that is more of an advocacy to support the Eye Bank Foundation of the Philippines, was designed to encourage more people to undergo an experience that simulates the world of the blind people by providing you a venue where you will eat in total darkness. It initially started in Tagaytay as a part of the 4 venue trials but may soon become a regular activity in many of the Zoomanity group establishments.

We got to experience "Dinner in the Dark" in Makati, specifically at the Misono Teppanyaki restaurant along Jupiter street, where we were taken to a dark room, blindfolded at first, and eventually taken off as soon as everyone was seated.

What was amazing during that night was that our guides were the members of the blind community.

Annabelle, blind since birth, was more than willing to be our guide that evening. Though we were already informed that they will be the one to wait for us in our tables, we still are very much impressed on how she was able to entertain us with her warm and friendly aura. We can sense the positive vibes emanating from her as she told us stories about her family and life.

Though I can still sense some longing for sight as she did mention she was the only one in the family that is totally blind, she still made us very comfortable as we dine clueless on food we can only taste, smell and touch. Were we able to guess what we were eating?

The Zoomanity group plans to conduct this event every Monday of the month which may very well become a sensation if marketed aggressively. I am sure many will wonder how it will be like to eat in the dark just like a blind person.

Eventually, many would also begin to put themselves in the shoes, or make that, in the eyes of the blind - and the lack of it. Aside from pledging your eyes for the foundation once you leave this world, patronizing the activity of the Zoomanity group will also provide for partial donations and earning opportunities for our blind brothers and sisters.

Make these admirable activities part of our bucket list. If every one will try out the experience, it will already become a big deal for the less fortunate of sight.
