Greek Stories

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We were tasked to do a tableau that has to be performed in our English month culminating event at our school, Pasig City Science High School, each section is tasked to make a tableau from different Greek stories.

IV Joule was tasked to do The Creation,

In the beginning there was only chaos. Then out of the void appeared Erebus, the unknowable place where death dwells, and Night. All else was empty, silent, endless, darkness. Then somehow Love was born bringing a start of order. From Love came Light and Day. Once there was Light and Day, Gaea, the earth appeared.

IV Copernicus was tasked to do The Quest of Golden Fleece,

Jason assembled a great group of heroes, known as the Argonauts after their ship, the Argo. The group of heroes included the Boreads who could fly, Heracles, Philoctetes, Peleus, Telamon, Orpheus, Castor and Pollux, Atalanta, and Euphemus.

IV Berzelius was tasked to do Aeneid,

On the Mediterranean Sea, Aeneas and his fellow Trojans flee from their home city of Troy, which has been destroyed by the Greeks. They sail for Italy, where Aeneas is destined to found Rome. As they near their destination, a fierce storm throws them off course and lands them in Carthage. Dido, Carthage’s founder and queen, welcomes them. Aeneas relates to Dido the long and painful story of his group’s travels thus far.

IV Boyle was tasked to do Iliad,

Nine years after the start of the Trojan War, the Greek (“Achaean”) army sacks Chryse, a town allied with Troy. During the battle, the Achaeans capture a pair of beautiful maidens, Chryseis and Briseis. Agamemnon, the leader of the Achaean forces, takes Chryseis as his prize, and Achilles, the Achaeans’ greatest warrior, claims Briseis. Chryseis’s father, Chryses, who serves as a priest of the god Apollo, offers an enormous ransom in return for his daughter, but Agamemnon refuses to give Chryseis back. Chryses then prays to Apollo, who sends a plague upon the Achaean camp.

IV Marx was tasked to do The Odyssey,

Ten years have passed since the fall of Troy, and the Greek hero Odysseus still has not returned to his kingdom in Ithaca. A large and rowdy mob of suitors who have overrun Odysseus’s palace and pillaged his land continue to court his wife, Penelope. She has remained faithful to Odysseus. Prince Telemachus, Odysseus’s son, wants desperately to throw them out but does not have the confidence or experience to fight them. One of the suitors, Antinous, plans to assassinate the young prince, eliminating the only opposition to their dominion over the palace.

IV Lewis was tasked to do Percy Jackson,

Percy Jackson is a twelve-year-old boy with dyslexia and ADHD, who has been expelled from every school he has ever attended. When his class takes a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, his pre-algebra teacher Mrs. Dodds transforms into a monster and attacks him. Percy's Latin teacher Mr. Brunner throws Percy a magic sword named Anaklusmos or the English translation, Riptide, and sends Mrs. Dodds to Tartarus. When Percy come out, he finds that nobody remembers Mrs. Dodds, and Mr. Brunner acts the same!

IV Goldstein was tasked to do The Golden Apple,

It all started when Eris, the goddess of discord, realized that she had not been invited to the marriage of the King Peleus, with the sea Nymph Thetis; a marriage that took place in the Mountain of Pelion in Thessaly. Eris was so furious about her exclusion that she decided to go to the wedding and throw a golden apple, the fruit of temptation, to the banquet table. The apple was supposed to go out to the "Calliste". Three goddesses claimed the beautiful golden apple: Hera., Athena, and Aphrodite. Zeus had a hard time to decide, since all three were dear to him, so he handled the judgement to the most handsome youth, the Trojan Prince Paris. Hera and Athena did their best to bribe Paris with power and glory; Aphrodite, on the other hand, seduced him with love, offering him the most beautiful female mortal in the world, Helen of Sparta. Paris opted for Aphrodite and so Helen was taken from Sparta to become Helen of Troy.

  1. It has been a pleasure to be a part of this event. My section was assigned to portray the Iliad and our efforts had paid off when we were awarded second place. Being a fan of mythology myself, I really enjoyed this experience. This is one of the experiences in high school that I surely won't forget.
