September 11 is declared Dictator's Day in Ilocos Norte

Wazzup Pilipinas!

With 198 affirmative votes, 8 negative, and one abstention, the lower chamber approved House Bill No. 7137 declaring September 11 as “President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos Day” in Ilocos Norte.

Thieves honoring the biggest thief in Philippine history? FTW he was even in the Guiness Records!

It's like rubbing salt into the wounds of martial law victims. Mga hijo at hija de tupa! Letse! Bwisit kayo.

Here we go again, another stupid idea coming from our elected officials. This can only create divisiveness among Filipino people. It’s more fun in the Philippines!

What is happening to our country  celebrating the plunderer of the Philippines? WTF! What values are we teaching our youth and students?! We condone criminal acts of plunder by celebrating the life of a plunderer and dictator? This nation is hopeless.

Dictator's Day! Only in the Philippines....oops Ilocos Norte. JUICE COLORED.

These is a shameless Congress. The other time, it was to shut down ABS-CBN and to send thousands of employees home jobless with no opportunity to find other source of work to support their families. Now, they want to honor the man who looted the nation’s treasury and caused our nation to become the waste basket of Asia. By this bill, they are helping re-write history of the scum who committed brutal crimes against his own people just to hang on to his reign of terror. What has Congress become? Another commodity that the Marcos’ ill-gotten wealth can buy? Please do not add any more injury to hurts of all the victims of Marcos brutal dictatorship!

The way we keep honoring disgraced officials like this, hindi na nakakagulat bakit sumisikat ulit ang mga Marcos. Instead of his reign being seen as a dark chapter in the nation's history, it will instead be seen as gray. The effect of historical revisionism is taking place....the power of the North...Ilocos to be specific.

Disgusting this thief and murderer became a hero because of Duterte and his thugs.

This is how this government twist history and make plunderers look like a hero.

There are so many good past president who truly care about our country and its people much more deserving than Marcos. What a nice way to celebrate 9-11. We're celebrating a dictator the same day when the one of the worst terrorist attack happened in America.

For crying out loud. He didn't even deserve to be buried at the Libingan Ng mga Bayani. How can we even honor this man when he plundered the country that resulted years of poverty and hardships to Filipinos?. Until we learn history well, put it in our minds and hearts, our country will suffer the same perdition again and again because of evil heartless greedy and shameless politicians.

We have a holiday wherein we celebrate the EDSA revolution that ended the Marcos dictatorship yet we also have a holiday honoring that same dictator.

Philippines numbah wan!

NYC Chairperson Ryan Enriquez and His Controversial Billboard

Wazzup Pilipinas!

National Youth Commission Chairperson Ryan Enriquez on a billboard along Marcos Highway. The billboard, showing his face along a few basic health protocols, drew flak online for its “inappropriateness.”

Enriquez clarified that he paid for the ad out of his own pocket.

COA in its 2019 report released August 24, slams the National Youth Commission (NYC) for incurring huge expenses – from trainings in 5-star hotels to pricey Filipiniana costumes – despite having little to show for it in terms of project performance.

And now this:

A billboard lease in EDSA for example can cost your company somewhere in the vicinity of P300,000.00 to P500,000.00 per month. A 30-second TV commercial costs around P500,000.00 to P800,000.00 and a small image ad in a local newspaper would be somewhere around P20,000.00 to P50,000.00.

Lol he's definitely running in the next elections. If he is running for higher office I will not vote for him.

“So young yet so corrupt!”- bata pa lang, bulok na ang klase ng pamumuno.

It's too obvious he's using the billboard to promote himself which obviously manifests that he has future political ambitions.

A billboard that predominantly features the "face" rather than the actual message the agency was "trying" to convey while young people continue to be victims of mass layoffs and experience struggles in online classes. Kapal!

I'm squinting my eyes because of the small texts of the basic health protocols but mainly on the big *ss face of the nyc usec with the big *ss bold letter of his name. Yeah, wipe it, we got the message that you are a trapo.

You can't even see the basic health protocols reminders , all i see he’s face that has nothing to do with the reminders, do we really need his face bigger than the reminders, pasok mga DDS.

Early campaign moves. EPAL!

Image projection is obviously the primary intention. and the reminders on safety and health protocols referenced to the Covid-19 pandemic is merely being used as instrument. He is so young, yet so brazenly corrupt already.

This guy still doesn't know what true leadership is all about. Its not about you, its about the people you're supposed to serve...

Weird way to announce/show to the people WHO NOT TO VOTE FOR NEXT ELECTION!

We see you're following Bong's style of having his face plastered in big ads! Welcome NYC to the big leagues! Next ka na maapoint sa mga big financial institutions kasi you have the courage to be yourself. To continue the Filipino politician tradition of getting away for corruption. Congrats in advance!

The government is the corrupt's ticket to living luxuriously at the expense of taxpayers' money... COA could only report but could not retrieve or force them to give back the over expenses including those going into the deep pockets of these crooks. Thick-faced & morally downright SOB's!

Enriquezs claims the funds to create this billboard came from his own pocket? Would you believe him?

LOOK: The controversial billboard on COVID-19 protective measures bearing the face of National Youth Commission chairperson Ryan Enriquez was taken down after the official faced backlash online.

“Ang objective ko lang naman ay makatulong para sa information dissemination, lalo na ngayon nabawasan ang major network na nagbabalita. Ang pagkakamali ko, anlaki ng mukha ko, pasensya na,” he says.

"Tinanggal na ang nasabing billboard para sa kapayapaan ng lahat, salamat at pasensya na," he adds.

WWF report reveals urgent action needed for small-scale fishers to withstand the climate crisis

New research by WWF, Agrocampus Ouest (France), University of British Columbia (Canada), Charles Darwin Foundation (Galapagos), and Instituto Nacional de Pesca (Ecuador) warns that communities in developing countries that depend heavily on fishing are severely threatened by the climate crisis, as fish biomass is expected to decrease by between 30 to 40% in some tropical regions by 2100 In a business-as-usual mitigation scenario.

The new study examines the effects of the climate crisis to small-scale fisheries in developing countries combining scientific climate models with social science approaches that incorporate local ecological knowledge. The assessment focuses on the impacts of and potential adaptation strategies to climate change for small-scale fishers in mainland Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, South Africa and the Philippines.

Severe effects, even at 1.5°C global warming

Philipp Kanstinger, marine expert at the WWF, reports: "As the results of the study show, climate change has significant negative consequences for the majority of fish species caught by small-scale fishers, including some of the most commercially important species like sardines, anchovies and tuna. Even if global warming were limited to 1.5°C in the most favourable scenario, most fish species remain at risk of losing their habitats and food sources.

In the coming decades, many fish species will be coping with temperatures that exceed comfortable limits for them to thrive, affecting their populations and distribution patterns. Less fish means less food and less income for people whose livelihoods are tied to our seas. The small-scale fishers, who account for half of the world's fish production, will be disproportionately affected by the consequences of a warmer ocean."

Tuna disappears from the Philippines

The study finds that fisheries in countries nearest to the equator will be the most heavily affected by warmer and more acidic seas. Kanstinger continues:

"In some countries, catches will be halved by 2050. Of the countries studied, the Philippines will be hit particularly hard: in traditional hand-line tuna fishing, large decreases in the amount of fish caught are foreseen. These losses are difficult to compensate with other fish species, both in terms of the nutritional value of other species in the region and the trade value of tuna to international markets. If the tuna disappears from the coasts of the island state, people who depend on these and other fish will simultaneously lose a vital source of food and income, threatening their livelihoods. Climate adaptation strategies and plans for their implementation must urgently be developed and supported by all relevant stakeholders.”

Fishers confirm: the climate crisis is already here

The case studies show that small-scale fishers are already strongly affected by the climate crisis. Among the most frequently cited observations are unusually high sea temperatures, the increase of stratification and physiological impacts on marine organisms.

Fishers also reported a greater frequency and severity of extreme weather events such as floods and strong winds. All three countries are already affected by declining catches, either due to reduced fish stocks or altered fish distribution as species move further away from the coast or into deeper, cooler waters where they are no longer accessible by small-scale fishing gear.

Fishers are also concerned about changes they have witnessed to marine ecosystems, especially to coral reefs that are dying or have already perished, as they serve as crucial fish spawning and nursery grounds. The cumulative effects of these changes are particularly devastating for coral reefs, which are home to 25% of all marine life.

The socio-economic consequences of the climate crisis are unprecedented. Fishers fear shrinking incomes due to dwindling fish stocks, and worry about their personal safety as they must travel further to find fish in seas where extreme weather conditions are increasingly frequent.

Kanstinger warns: "If our emissions of CO2 continue on their observed trajectory, we can now anticipate a mass extinction of species in the oceans. Many marine ecosystems will collapse. If we remain inactive with regard to fisheries and the climate crisis, this will lead to dramatic losses. Millions of people will lose their livelihoods and go hungry."

Better fisheries management and fighting the climate crisis

The WWF study concludes that the small-scale fishing sector is not currently equipped to adequately adapt to the climate crisis. Marine ecosystems are experiencing dramatic changes at a rapid pace as fisheries continue to depend on them. If the sector fails to adapt to these changes, it will collapse. However, if global warming is kept within the limit of 1.5°C, scientists estimate that globally sustainable fisheries management can actually increase fish biomass in the oceans by 60 percent. Urgent action is required to steer both oceanic and social scenarios to more thriving and resilient outcomes.

Kanstinger warns: "With a human population of nearly 10 billion anticipated by 2050, we will need more resources than ever before. This cannot be met under the current circumstances. Only by shifting to sustainable management of fish stocks, reducing discarded catches, increasing consumer demand for small and fast-growing fish species, transitioning to sustainable aquaculture and accounting for the changes the climate crisis is already delivering to our seas and societies can the situation improve."

WWF recommendations for better fisheries management and control strategies, as well as climate adaptation practices call for the fisheries sector to become more responsible, adaptable, participatory, precautionary and social, including gender equality. Better and more effective monitoring and control of fishing activities, together with investment in better equipment and scientific data are urgently required.

How European consumers can help

Philipp Kanstinger concludes: "It is important that consumers choose sustainable fish and seafood products while consciously consuming less seafood, especially when sustainable choices are not available. Only sustainable fisheries and sustainable aquaculture can ensure the conservation of the ecosystems and species which support the livelihoods of 800 million people around the world and keep some of our favourite food items on our dinner plates."
