Ninak: Asian Comfort Food at Kapitolyo in Pasig

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Angus Beef Nilaga in the picture above is a lot more delicious in real life, and so are the other dishes served at Ninak, one of the newest restaurant sprouting at Kapitolyo in Pasig. It's very near the main road and the traffic enforcers know exactly where it is even though its new in the neighborhood.

Ninak is actually "kanin" spelled backwards. Kanin is the tagalog for rice - the staple food of Filipinos. Many would say they won't feel filled if they are not served rice along with their viand. Bread, pasta or mashed potatoes are no equal replacement for rice.

All the great dishes goes well with rice, and we seem to can't live conveniently or fulfilled without it. "Hindi ako nabubusog kapag hindi ako kumakain ng kanin" says many. It will always be a part of the Filipino meal.

Amici: Pizza, Pasta, and Gelato Extravaganza

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Amici has introduced around 10 new dishes to tease your palate, make your heart palpitate, and maybe wanna make you drool all over - that last one maybe too much.... hahaha!

Seriously, I've known Amici to be one of the great sources for my "gelato" craze, and have been one of my often visited resto in the Metro. But it was only that day during the introduction of their new Italian-inspired dishes was when I've heard of the history and origins of Amici.

If you are not aware, "Gelato" is the Italian word for "ice cream" derived from the word "gelatus" which means "frozen". It is made with milk, cream, various sugars, and flavoring such as fresh fruits and nut puree - that's how my fave online encyclopedia describes it.

But what's the difference between ice cream and gelato aside from one originating from Italy?

The Peculiar Maiden Goddess

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Every girl dreams of growing up, getting married and having a family of their own, right?

Not exactly.

Some girls want to experience motherhood, but some would rather stay as young women who are free from men. And there’s one goddess in particular, who isn’t quite fond of men herself, besides her twin brother and some of the other deities of course. Rather, she’d be much more comfortable out in the woods, hunting game.

The goddess Artemis, also known as Diana by the Romans, is the patron of the wilderness and girls in general. Her mother is the goddess Leto and her father is the king of the gods Zeus while her twin brother, the sun god, is Apollo. For a virgin goddess, she is surprisingly, also the patron of childbirth. Imagine that! A maiden goddess who patrons women who are giving birth or a pregnant. It was quite the odd addition to her myth, but that’s what makes her an interesting figure.
