Eat Out Manila: Bloggers Meet and Say It With Dinner Video Contest

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I'm one of the many restaurant customers who would call for a reservation only to find out on the day of our visit that my reservation was not recorded appropriately. Sometimes the restaurant would expect a "Rose" or a female customer instead. I know my name sounds like a girl's name (I get that all the time) but I'm not really sure if my voice sounds female as well.

The very first time I tried reserving through phone was for a fine dining restaurant in Makati so my wife and I could celebrate a special occasion. But when we got to the restaurant, our name was not there. It turned out that the phone number on their Facebook page or web site was the number at their head office, and not of the restaurant. When the restaurant finally got the confirmation of the reservation by calling their head office, the crew directly conversed with my wife thinking she was the one who made the reservation since "Ross" is a name mistaken a lot for a lady. You could probably imagine how long it actually took before we finally got a seat.

Here comes Eat Out Manila with a solution. Their web site and equivalent mobile app will let you reserve seats at your favorite restaurants with just a few clicks and in real time. You no longer need to call only to get frustrated since, most of the time, nobody is answering on the other end.

Apparently, similar platform has been available for several years already in other countries, but it is only recently that Manila will get to experience the smoothest way to book a reservation using our Android or iOS smartphones and tablets (or phablets) with just a few taps, a swipe and an e-mail confirmation courtesy of Eat Out Manila.

Eat Out Manila invited us for a bloggers meet at Chihuahua Mexican Grill and Margarita Bar, one of their many partner restaurants that are now part of their platform. Eat Out Manila's restaurant list has already reached more than a hundred as of today and quickly growing everyday.

Chihuahua Mexican Grill and Margarita Bar was named after the cute and adorable dog so expect to eat at their "doggie bowl" when dining on their nachos. They also have other TexMex dishes like burritos and quesadillas. It's not my first time to visit this restaurant but it was at their Greenbelt 2 branch where I first experienced their specialties. I actually blogged about them before when I got an invitation to try them out. Here's the link to my blog about Chihuahua Mexican Grill and Margarita Bar.

Aside from the convenience of booking restaurants instantly, users of the Eat Out Manila restaurant reservation platform also get exclusive freebies and discounts that nobody else will get if they go in as regular walk-in customers or via phone call reservation. The platform is also an advantage especially during peak hours when you can immediately proceed to your reserve seats amidst the long queue outside the restaurant.

At the bloggers meet, Ignacio Lamata, Eat Out Manila's Managing Director, shared with us more information about the restaurant booking platform that is now available for Android phones. The last time we met at a similar launch of Eat Out Manila, the app could only be downloaded on iPhones. Since there are a lot of Android phone users, its bound to be more widely accepted now.

After the short talk, attendees of the night were also requested to take part in a "Drama in the Dining Room" game where we were divided into groups and asked to act out a short situational skit where the use of the Eat Out Manila platform can be applied. Our small team unanimously voted for the big guy to play the role of the restaurant or bar "bouncer" since he was appropriately huge enough to act as one, while the rest of us were the customers (one irate customer who could not get in to the establishment, and another one who easily walked in because she used the Eat Out Manila app). The organizers said we won because of the iconic "bouncer" role ....He really stood out among the rest and I'm proud to say I've thought of that idea since our team mate's physique was really suited for that role... hehehe.

What I like about the venue where they hold the meetup is Chihuahua is proud to show off the many pictures of their customers, especially the celebrities and the lovely ladies and hunky men, or the otherwise wacky guests, who visit their restaurant. The photos are displayed all over their walls and even their toilets. We decided to imitate the one we saw at the toilet where a few known food bloggers made something humorous. Too bad we didn't have a bonchon that night.

Eat Out Manila also has a Valentines season contest open to the public who are active in social media. They call the promo as "Say It With Dinner, " a video making contest where participants must post a Valentine's video message addressed to their partner on their own social media account, either Facebook or Instagram, with accompanying text that includes the hashtags #sayitwithdinner and #eatoutmanila. They must also Like Eat Out Manila on Facebook or follow @eatoutmanilaPH on Instagram.

The contest period is from February 4 to 12 and allows only one entry per person and the three participants with the most number of Likes will be chosen as the winners who will all receive dinner for two at a restaurant to be determined by Eat Out Manila.
