Storywriting 101: Design Your Own Story Writing Course Taught By a Five-Time Palanca Awardee

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Still haven’t finished written that novel, short story, or movie? Learn a concrete method for writing stories from five-time Palanca Award-winning writer, Dr. Joem Antonio, in Storywriting 101: Stories by Design. This 12-hour workshop will be held on three Saturdays (February 8, 15 and 22, 2014) from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at U-View in Fully Booked, Bonifacio High Street.

Storywriting 101 is not your typical writing workshop where participants read out their work to be critiqued. This course will give you a clear method on how to bring a story concept to life; you’ll learn how to create characters, set up a plot, make events vivid in the minds of your readers, and rewrite for polish.

Here’s what past students had to say:
"I like how the planning stage in writing was discussed. Most aspiring writers (like me) always have a problem with organizing ideas, which should be the foundation of every story." - Mel
"It was very refreshing and enlightening because it addressed the common faults of writers by giving tips and lessons in a fun way. All in all it was like work and fun at the same time." - Pat

Dr. Joem Antonio. He has a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from UP and teaches Literature in UA&P. Joem's writing background mostly consists of theater plays and short stories for children, and he's won five Palanca Awards for these. His play entitled, "Death in Ten Minutes" will be staged in UP Diliman as part of the Short+Sweet Manila festival this Feb-Mar. (In case you do watch, he'd appreciate your vote!)

Joem created the Storywriting 101 course because he believes that writing stories isn't a magical process. Neither is writing a talent possessed only by some. Yes, inspiration counts. Yes, some writers seem to be better than others. But that doesn't mean the rest of us can't learn how to write stories. Joem has discovered a process for storywriting which he's been teaching for five years now.
