They say life begins at 40, and I have to say it's true since life becomes a little more complicated. The signs showing you're at your ripe age of 40 are very evident regardless if you've been really careful in maintaining your physical appearance. There will be signs like permanent loss of hair, or baldness, that aging men would experience. Sadly. there are a few more health problems to worry about such as enlargement of the prostate.
The prostate is a small organ about the size of a walnut, found only in men. It is located under the urinary bladder and in front of the rectum in the pelvic cavity. It produces some of the fluid in semen and is crucial to a man’s sex life. The fluid helps to nourish and protect the sperm during intercourse and forms the main bulk of ejaculate volume. The muscular fibres in the prostate plays a part in controlling urine flow by contracting to slow the flow of urine.
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common prostate problem for men over 40. It is the enlargement of the prostate that cannot be cured as it is a natural part of aging in men. Although the prostate gland grows during much of a man’s life, urinary flow problems usually appear only after the age of 40 as a consequence of the final growth phase. Hormonal changes that take place as men age are responsible for BPH or enlargement of the prostate.
Most men who reach the age of 40, start to experience hormonal changes and this causes the start of the symptoms of enlargement of the prostate or Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). Although BPH is not life threatening, it causes much discomfort and could lead to worse diseases like kidney and prostate cancer.
