Despite their condition, Alice and Fely upheld the adage about mothers’ resourcefulness. They were able to come up with means to support their families, with support coming from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the local government unit, and other stakeholders.

Master Chefs 2013 Barangay Cooking Challenge Final Cook Off : When Cooks Become Master Chefs

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I think I was the only blogger who accepted the invitation of the SM Hypermarket Cubao - Master Chefs 2013 Barangay Cooking Challenge Final Cook Offs. There were plenty of us during the initial media launch of the competition but I was all alone during the grand finale.

I was at the Cubao branch to witness the branch's 8 finalists take on the challenge as these finalists from the different barangays in the area display their knowledge in and outside the kitchen.

The competition was done in two batches as 4 challengers face each other per batch and three chefs judging their final dish for the day. Acting as judges were Chef Hasset Go, Chef Enrico Magtanong and Chef Paolo Sia.

Individuals from the barangay, assisted by one SM Hypermarket Customer Assistants each, bought ingredients from the grocery that must not exceed an amount of Php 500 to match with a recipe for a dish that must include broccoli and CDO Ulam Burger. They have to complete the dish within one (1) hour only.

I was impressed that a challenger was able to prepare three dishes, and that the three chefs seemed to be impressed.

Options for Gateway Airport Roadmap to 2040 to Be Presented to President Aquino - DOTC

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) is set to present the options for establishing the country’s gateway airports from the present until 2040 to President Benigno S. Aquino III tomorrow, 6 November 2013.

“We will present two options for modernizing our gateway airport system, which will show the world that we are preparing to be one of the top global tourist destinations for the next few decades,” remarked Abaya.

According to a 2011 study by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), annual passenger forecasts for the Greater Capital Region, which covers the National Capital Region and Regions 3 and 4A, will rise from 49.8-million in 2020, to 75-million in 2030, up to 106.7-million in 2040. In 2012, total traffic was already at 31.879-million.

To meet these expected volumes, the DOTC has identified two viable options, both of which will involve the expansion of Clark International Airport (CIA), as well as the development of a new international airport roughly within 20-30 minutes of Metro Manila, to be fully operational by 2027.

The 2 options differ insofar as the fate of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is concerned.

Plant Tour at Cemex and Re-visiting Rizal’s Place

IMG_4886

Wazzup Pilipinas !!!

Last October 25, 2013, Press and Media together with On-line Bloggers visit the factory and see how cement was being done and process on their Quarry at San Jose, Antipolo City.

A nation is progressing when you see many constructions within the metro or even in the remotest part of a nation. With our case the Philippines, we have seen multi structures of constructions, malls , condominiums , townhouses, and even houses of any types this days on every part of the country which you cannot even imagine . Thus should be reconsidered as one that will carry a nations economy to go up in its state.

That’s why CEMEX has been in a long time was prepared in catching up for the technology upgrades and more alternatives other that coal just to meet the industry’s need for cement be it in bags or bulks.

The province of Rizal amply addresses cement supply for major portions of Luzon’s high-growth areas. This cement production can be attributed to CEMEX Philippines, a building solutions provider which operates its Solid Cement Plant in Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City.

“We understand that cement demand is continuously rising,” said Sherwin San Pablo, Solid Cement Plant director. “Luzon isn’t just the biggest island in the Philippines; it is also home to plenty of thriving and rising commercial and urban areas. Therefore, there is an undeniably huge demand for cement here. And we are proud that the Solid Plant is more than capable of supporting it.”

IMG_4993

The Solid Cement Plant centers its operational framework on sustainability and improving community welfare. The temperature is so hot on this area where coal is being grinded and heated and transformed into alternative fuels

IMG_4995

The state-of-the-art facility uses alternative sources of energy like refuse derived fuel, raw rice husks, and waste plastics. Moreover, it will soon utilize a waste-heat process that converts heat in the kiln to electricity, which generates enough power to support 1/3 of the plant’s energy supply.

In addition to its sustainable products and processes, the cement manufacturer also promotes plant and road safety. The company has hundreds of employees working inside the plant on a daily basis. At the same time, it also has hundreds of trucks making deliveries around Luzon.

Since establishing its safety, as well as quality and environmental management systems, as early as a few years after CEMEX Philippines entered the country in 1997, Solid has been able to significantly reduce industrial accidents and road incidents. Moreover, safety and environmental awareness has developed into a culture that all CEMEX employees, workers or drivers carry with them even after they have clocked out from their shift.

IMG_4074

“Everybody at CEMEX is committed to being part of nation building. So whether it is innovating and manufacturing products, supplying demand, reducing our carbon footprint and being environmentally-conscious,  or looking out for the safety of our people and those around us, we are determined to be of service to the country,” said San Pablo.

Happy Bread Day : The Gardenia Bread Town and The Next Big Sandwich Hit

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Gardenia Happy Bread Day event was held at the Gardenia Bread Town that was built inside the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati. The event was supposed to start at around 10 am but a lot of the booths were still completing their setup during that time. I brought my wife and my youngest child at the event where they enjoyed the differnet booths offering fun and exciting opportunities to taste and win Gardenia products and merchandises.

Aside from being able to buy Gardenia breads at factory prices, the numerous booths around Gardenia Bread Town offered free Gardenia bread samples tasting so you'll definitely be full already if you've tasted all of the said bread samples. In fact, we only took our lunch a few hours after lunch time because we were all satisfied already with all those yummy breads we were able to sample.

It was a whole day event filled with loads of activities for both the young and old alike. Prizes at stake were Gardenia designed shirts, pot-holders, products from other co-sponsors and of course lots of bread from Gardenia.

Thor : The Dark World in Digital 3D Special Blocked Screening

We did not only see the man in action flexing his muscles at the sight of the enemies and throwing the Mjolnir hammer but he also had a scene partly stripped showing his enormous figure from the waist up!

Marvel fans out there rejoiced not only for Thor but for the rest of the cast.....and weird as it may seem, even for Loki, the half-brother of Thor who somehow made a whats seemed to be a noble effort to help out this brother and their kingdom called Asgard.

....and oh yeah! There was another cameo, as usual by Stan Lee, at a scene in a mental institution.

A Surprise Wedding Proposal at One Pacific Place

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Just imagine for a moment, a young lady getting proposed to by her boyfriend in front of friends, colleagues and relatives, in the middle of what she thought was a different celebration through a video uploaded on the guy's Facebook account. But it was a real surprise treat when she found out everyone else knew it was going to happen that day. It's like the whole world ganged up on her to make her day a truly memorable one!!!

You know it’s good and real when a surprise marriage proposal is made from a totally different country all the way to the Philippines, and all your loved ones contributed to make your soon-to-be-very-special day a success - now that's EFFORT with all caps!!!

It was quite an elaborate setup with special thanks to all the people who came and helped out - and tried their best to keep it a secret to the bride-to-be.

Experiencing the Spirit to Serve at the Philippine National School for the Blind

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Caring for the disabled members of our society should always be a prime concern not only of the government and private corporations but also of all individuals. Most of these people were born with the disabilities, while some met an unfortunate accident. We should therefore make it a point to always give them hope that we are here to help them go through life.

Some of them emerged talented and were recognized joining talent competitions. They have exceptional skills that are worth of a second look and of discovery.

The Philippine National School for the Blind located in the city of Pasay recently got some donations from the Marriott Hotel Manila in the form of some bed linens and kitchen utitlities.

We were invited to take part in the honorable act of social responsibility for our disadvantaged brothers and sisters who are desperately needing our support and concern.

Singapore Airlines Offers Reduced Fares to Several Destinations

Wazzup Pilipinas!

There are a lot of promo fares around but usually they come with economy seats that makes your flight a stressful rather than a relaxing activity. Who wants to take a flight off to a dream vacation in a heavenly place but with a hellish airline service?

I usually hate the food, or the lack of it, when I travel off to a destination in an economy flight. But you really get what you pay for even when they're not really a promo or discounted fare. I prefer to pay more but will surely get a more restful flight back and forth to any point available.

When you travel on Singapore Airlines, you'll enjoy the award winning service that even other airlines talk about. Regardless of whether you are travelling in Suites, First, Business or Economy Class, the Singapore Airlines cabin products are designed to offer travellers more comfort and personal space.

The Philippine market is one of the biggest growing market in terms of leisure and tourist. This is the right opportunity to offer something exceptionally good to the Filipino market.

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Nov 7, 2013 is the 7-11 Slurpee BYO Cup Day where everyone in the Philippines can bring their own cup, whether outrageous, weird, zany, or simply out-of-this-world, to any 7-11 branch nationwide and drink up on your favorite Slurpee!

A little history of the Bring Your Own BYO Cup Day - it all started in 7-Eleven Australia that sent people rushing to the stores with their teapots, pots, canisters and even wheelbarrow!

And now it is happening in the Philippines - for one day only.

I attended the launch of the BYO Cup Day held at the URBN Bar and Kitchen in Bonifacio Global City. There were a few attendees who brought their own interesting cup, just like me, who had to rush to a nearby store to buy measuring cups...hehehe. But I don't think that was interesting enough for the people who judged the winner because they awarded the recognition for the best cup to a beach bucket! Hahaha

The BYO Cup Day in Manila is in partnership with Coca Cola and Slurpee!

Where to Find Mr. Perfect

(credits to the owner)

Once upon a time, a perfect man and a woman met.

After the courtship, they had a perfect wedding. Their life together was, of course, happy.

One snowy, stormy Christmas Eve, this couple was driving their
car along a road, when they noticed someone at the side
of the road. Being the kind couple, they stopped to help.

There stood Santa Claus with a huge bundle of toys. Not wanting to
disappoint any children on the eve of Christmas, the couple loaded
Santa and his toys into their vehicle.
Soon they were driving along delivering the toys.
Unfortunately, the couple and Santa Claus had an accident.

Only one of them survived the accident.

Who was the survivor? (Scroll down for the answer. Trust me, it's worth it)

The Perks of Being a Fangirl

Wazzup Pilipinas!

A fangirl is a female fan who supports her idol. The idol may be a dancer, a singer or an actor. She shows her dedication to her idol by supporting all of his or her activities, buying their merchandise, watching him or her perform onstage and by sending him letters. There are many causes why a normal girl would become a fangirl. And there are many effects as well that can affect her life in the future or in her present-day life.

K-Pop fangirls are not all born, some are made. One reason why they are made is because of their friends who provoke them to become fangirls. When they are already fangirls, they’ll start listening to songs and watch music videos, and then they'll possibly fall in love with it all, not just to their songs and videos but also the ones who perform them.

Being a K-Pop fan is more than just adoring K-Pop idols. We are learning how to value things. It is love. It is all about sacrifices, because fan girls would do everything for their biases (K-pop idol crushes) whether it is good or bad. Sometimes, fangirls are crossing their limitations, such as learning to wander off without asking for permission to your parents, learn to lie, be warfreaks (especially if they are talking bad about your bias), disobey their parents, not focusing on their studies anymore and and being judged by other people, which lead them to the bad effects.
