20th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta: A Weekend of Everything That Flies on February 11 to 14

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Experience a weekend of everything that flies with your friends and family!

Don't miss the much-anticipated 20th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta, happening on February 11-14, 2016 in Clark, Pampanga!

During this four-day fiesta, there will be exhibitions of different aviation disciplines, including aerobatics, skydiving, paragliding, remote control aircraft, and kite flying. Hot air balloons from the Philippines and other countries will fly high in the early morning, and illuminate the evenings.

More than just a spectator event, the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta is a gathering of aviators from the Philippines and the world.

What began as a passion project has now evolved into the longest-running sports aviation event in Asia. The fiesta’s longtime objective is to instill discipline in participating young pilots so they can develop into safe aviators, as well as to impart a spirit volunteerism to the whole community.

The fiesta is an opportunity to share and exchange cultures and traditions with visiting pilots from all over the world. They are given a taste of Filipino hospitality and the fiesta spirit. We hope that their beautiful experience becomes the best advertising for Philippine tourism. We also encourage the visiting pilots to be contributors to chosen beneficiaries of the foundation.

Korean Owner of Discover Boracay Hotel & Spa Refuses to Accept Filipino Guests

Wazzup Pilipinas!

May ari ng Discover Boracay Hotel & Spa na Koreano tinanggihan na mag check in ang isang Sundalong Pinoy at sinabihang "“No Filipino! No Filipino! No Filipino!"

Below is the actual statements as grabbed from an account going viral over social media. You be the judge.

"Calling All Filipinos and the Government. At 10pm of January 1, 2016 I was refused to check-in and avail the VIP Lounge of Discover Boracay, an Airport Lounge in Kalibo International Airport that cost Php300 saying they only accept South Koreans.

I am to avail of the service because my flight is at 5am going to Cebu. In photos below, I approached the lady Filipina Staff at the cashier where inquiries and payment are made.

Me: Ms I'd like to use the VIP Lounge.

Lady Staff: Naku sir sa ngayon sa mga Koreans lang po nila inooffer ang lounge.

Me: Are you serious? Bakit sa kanila lang?

Lady Staff: Korean po kasi ang may ari sir.

Dome Cafe: Start The New Year Right With Sumptuous Dishes

Wazzup Pilipinas!

From starters to their hot kitchen specials and all the way to their cakes and drinks, Dome Cafe will surprise you of their sumptuous dishes.

Now on their 16th year this 2016, Dome Cafe currently has only one branch located at EDSA Shangri-La Mall but there are immediate plans to branch out as soon as they find a good location. It is actually their 2nd branch at that location since their first branch at the old Greenbelt location closed down due to unavoidable circumstances.

Dome Cafe does not just offer good food and service, here yu get to taste the best quality food and drinks at reasonable prices alongside its superb service and quality interiors. For them, the customers are their top priority so they base their revisions based on customers' comments and suggestions. The feeling inside a Dome Cafe restaurant is like you're at your own second home away from your real home.

Although it's an Australian-based company, they offer exceptional varieties of food which they refer to as Dome-fied Filipino cuisines.

Soon they will be launching their new menu so we are excited to wait for this new set of dishes to savor for the year 2016.

We recently visited Done Cafe to experience their all-time favorite dishes that remains superb in taste and value for our money.

The Burning of the Effigies by the Colombians: Kalma Lang, Hindi Natin Kailangang Bumawi

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The controversial burning of Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach and Steve Harvey effigies in Colombia enraged netizens in the Philippines. Even Filipinos living in other countries have something to say against the Colombians, especially the guy seen burning the effigies.

This prompted Ethel Booba to post on her Twitter account another humorous reply towards the action of the Colombian. She seems to be in a roll and keeps coming up with witty rebuttals to all the ludicrous realities out there.

Imagine what it would be like if we are with her 24/7? Must be a lot of rolling on the floor laughing out loud like there's no tomorrow.

It was necessary for everyone to react because by that act alone by the Colombians, they have shown the world, the universe rather, that they are not confidently beautiful with a heart. Bitterness does not tell beauty, and it is an attribute of its exact opposite. Why blame the Philippines? Move on!

Clickbaits: You Wouldn't Believe Why I Wrote This, What Happens Next Will Shock You!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Everyone's reaction was priceless! What you will witness will restore your faith in humanity!

Have you resorted to applying the art and science of writing effective headlines or click-worthy lines that would tempt the readers to click and read the actual story?

These type of clickbait lines really works to lure traffic to your website but ...the big butt ..I mean BUT is .... you are nothing extraordinary if your actual content is rubbish. You just created a lot of hype but under-delivered.

However, "“If your headline isn’t good, your article is irrelevant. And if your article is irrelevant, then you’re not getting any traffic."

But how do we really write a good headline that is shareable, draws people in, and is not manipulative?

Most people wanted to get lured in by clickbaits. As they browse through their timelines in Facebook or read new posts all over their other social media accounts, the search for an interesting headline is bound to lead to one or two, or more, clickbaits. What exactly is the phenomenon that entices us to click?

Wallowing in the Wow at Slappy Cakes!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I received the email message below yesterday (January 1). What a great way to start the year.
"Hi Ross,
In behalf of __________, I would like to express our gratitude for your excellent write up of our restaurant. The positive exposure you gave us on social media provided us with a nice introduction. Customer response has dramatically increased since then and we hope to maintain this upward momentum with quality food and great service at reasonable prices.
As 2015 ends, We wish you a Happy New Year and we would like to give you Gift Certificates. These can be availed at _____________ Quezon City. You may call ___________ for time of pick up or reservation.
Here's my mobile for any concerns __________.
Best,
________________"
It reminded me that there are yet so many Gift Certificates we have in our possession that still needs to be claimed. Actually, many of the GCs have already expired already due to so many months of being unused. What I don't like about them is the fact that they have expiration dates. It is not so convenient on my part to visit the establishments just to claim the GCs so they are usually remain in storage until I have the opportunity to have an event within the area where the establishments are located.

Thus, I agreed to my wife when she asked if we wanted to go out and eat. The reason was because it was going to be our son's birthday on January 6. We couldn't celebrate it during school time because all of us will be very busy even on weekends. My kids would often complain of too much homework and projects at school that their weekends are never free. The weekends are also wash days for my wife so everyone is just too occupied in chores.

Stray Bullets: Ligaw na Bala, Saan Ba Napunta?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Some people never learn. They keep on doing what goes against pure logic. They are only after the thrill of the moment. They wallow in the wow where they can be pictured as all powerful and privileged.

Owning a gun does not give us the right to use it whenever we want to. It should be for a specific purpose and that is not to brag about our ownership.

It is not a toy similar to the firecrackers we use to celebrate the holidays. Remember that those bullets you shoot up into the air will eventually fall down back into the earth and hit whatever is in their way.

An object or a person - it doesn't matter. What matters is it is still a senseless act that needs to be extremely reprimanded.

The person who fires a gun to entertain himself and others is not fit to be among us. They should rot in jail together with our politicians and government officials who are only in power because they want to gain a self-entitlement.

Cathy Garcia Molina Accused of Being Despotic and Despicably Pretentious

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"On the first taping day, October 6, director Cathy Garcia Molina led the prayer before we started our work. The prayerful director said that the soap is meant to “entertain” and “teach values” to its viewers. I recoil when I remember how her behavior toward bit players and those who work behind the camera so brazenly contradicted her pious pronouncements. Her hypocrisy was disconcerting to watch. She was servile to Luz Fernandez, courteous to Joe Gruta, solicitous to Liza Soberano, and friendly to Joey Marquez and Irma Adlawan. Liza committed a lot of mistakes in delivering simple lines, but the director shielded her from criticism. She never uttered anything that could embarrass the young actress. This sensitiveness to the feelings of others however, was selective; it was only for stars and veteran actors.

The “Romantic Comedy Queen” director instructs talents by shouting, insulting, and spitting all sorts of curses. She is a character straight out of the Noli. She is subservient to the wealthy and the powerful like Capitan Tiago, despotic like Padre Damaso and despicably pretentious like Padre Salvi and Doña Victorina. In a rehearsal take on the morning of the first day, she shouted at my girlfriend three times: “Sarah! Sarah! Sarah! Ikaw! Anong pangalan mo?!” There was a delay in her reaction because her character’s name was Celia, not Sarah. But a queen like Cathy cannot admit her mistake. I experienced the same treatment before sundown. My girlfriend and I both remember that Cathy said “putang ina” to her once on that day. " - Alvin Campomanes

That was a portion of the letter dated October 22, 2014 sent by Alvin Campomanes, a professor and historian who incidentally became an impromptu bit player for Forevermore together with her girlfriend, Rossellyn Domingo. It was sent to Socorro Vidanes of ABS-CBN as a complaint against the indignities that bit player talents like them have suffered under the direction of Cathy Garcia Molina, known as the director of A Second Chance and the One More Chance movies starred by John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo. She also directed Walang Forever, a Metro Manila Film Festival 2015 entry starred by Jericho Rosales and Jennilyn Mercado, and the soap opera known as Forevermore starred by Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil.
