Dulaang UP Proudly Presents Ang Dalagita'y 'Sang Bagay Na Di-Buo

Wazzup Pilipinas!

On its 42nd Theatre Season, Dulaang UP brings to the Philippine stage Eimear McBride’s haunting novel 'A Girl is a Half-formed Thing' (Goldsmith Prize Award 2013) billed as 'Ang Dalagita’y ‘sang Bagay Na Di-Buo' in Filipino.

Translated by Rody Vera’s, the play is based on Annie Ryan’s stage adaptation of the critically-acclaimed novel, originally staged by The Corn Exchange Theatre Company in 2014.

Ang Dalagita’y ‘sang Bagay Na Di-buo tells in fragmented, poetic, and partly ambiguous language, the tragic life of a Girl, who has been repeatedly abused by her uncle, who loses her beloved brother, grapples with the wicked religiosity of her mother, and increasingly finds herself in that corner of her life where no option is left.

Ang Dalgita’y ‘sang Bagay na Di-buo is a harrowing piece that lays bare in no delicate terms, the appalling iniquity of sexual abuse and power.

Skyzx Labastilla, Missy Maramara, and Opaline Santos alternate as the Girl in this Philippine premiere of the production. The performance is a rare opportunity to catch a powerful rendition of a gut-wrenching novel.

Ang Dalagita’y ‘sang Bagay Na Di-buo is also part of the University of the Philippines Diliman’s participation in the National Arts Month billed asKat(h)awan: Bodies, Society, Culture.

The play opens on 21 February and will run until 11 March (Wednesdays to Fridays at 7:00 pm; Saturdays and Sundays at 10:00 am and 3:00 pm) at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater, 2nd Floor Palma Hall, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.

The Philippine premiere of A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing (Ang Dalagita’y ‘sang Bagay Na Di-buo) is directed by José Estrella and presented through the Wylie Agency (UK) Ltd.

Hitachi Vantara HCP Scores in Gartner’s 2018 Critical Capabilities for Object Storage

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Hitachi Vantara, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd., announced Hitachi Vantara HCP (Hitachi Content Platform) has been scored in the Gartner 2018 Critical Capabilities for Object Storage, published January 25, 2018.

Object storage is in high demand to bridge the gap between traditional storage and emerging cloud technologies to obtain the most value from enterprise data, no matter where it resides. Because object storage uses an integrated approach to manage data through object storage systems, it fuels interest and investment from infrastructure and operations leaders, and enterprise developers.

In the report, Gartner analysts, Raj Bala, John McArthur and Garth Landers, wrote about their evaluation of thirteen object storage products based on eight critical capabilities: capacity, interoperability, manageability, performance, resilience, security and multitenancy, storage efficiency, and pricing. The analysts also wrote about their evaluation of the object storage products based on five use cases: analytics, archiving, backup, content distribution, and cloud storage.

Compared to the previous iteration of the report, the scores for Hitachi Vantara HCP have improved in all five use-cases.*

Hitachi believes it has advanced with the following:

§  Hitachi Content Platform excels at providing a smart cloud object storagesolution ecosystem that delivers unique private, hybrid or public cloud storage services. This includes being able to support mixed workloads, faster reaction times, and flexibility to store and move data across multiple public cloud services. It does all of this and reduces total cost of ownership (TCO) and increases the effective capacity of storage.

§  Handling big data applications can be time consuming, but HCP offers an integrated search and analytics solution to uncover new opportunities and insights data analysis. Analytics help organizations take advantage of the value of their data, surface new insights and accelerate results. As a result, productivity and performance increase.

§  HCP features certain performanceboosters, such as enhanced multipart file transfers for faster uploads of large files, easier resolution of content sharing conflicts, and universal file migration improvements. Enhanced performance is crucial for influential object storage services in order to react more quickly in order to change and to optimize costs.

§  With built-in capabilities, HCP helps to increase the effective capacity of storage by letting customers smoothly repurpose their existing primary storage, provide ease of use for downloading and uploading, and being able to monitor and control the increased growth of data.

“We believe HCP’s position in this year’s Gartner Critical Capabilities for Object Storage shows our strength and continued investment and innovation in our HCP portfolio,” said Brad Surak, chief product and strategy officer, Hitachi Vantara. “Customers turn to us to gather, store, protect and analyze their data, so they can make faster, more informed decisions. We feel that it’s no surprise that our award-winning HCP portfolio is the go-to IT storage solution for thousands of enterprises worldwide.”

Hitachi Vantara announced major updates to Hitachi Content Platform last year in the 2017 Hitachi press release, “Hitachi Content Platform Portfolio Transforms Cloud Infrastructure,” highlighting a 400% increase in usable storage per cluster, 67% more storage node capacity via 10TB drives, a 55% increase in objects per node, and simplified software licensing for customers to achieve over 5 time lower storage costs than public cloud, all leading to over 60% TCO savings compared to public cloud for enterprise use cases.

Internet of Things: Guide for Beginners

Wazzup Pilipinas!

You must have heard of IOT recently. Everyone from students to industrialists are talking about it these days. What is all the fuss for? What is IOT?

IOT stands for internet of things. Just like how computers communicate with each other through the internet, IOT aims to let things communicate with each other.

A thing in this case means any electronic device. This ranges from switches to cars to household appliances. The applications of such an interconnected network of things are endless.

It is easy to understand IOT on a technical level. Now a device you find lying cannot simply start communicating with a network. It is like teaching a baby to talk. To do this you program and connect a microcontroller to the device.

A microcontroller is a small computer that can gather information using sensors and connect to the internet through WIFI or some other means.

Once connected, the microcontroller can sense and measure any affecting factor in its surroundings or within the device itself. This is then gathered and sent to another computer through the internet that analyses this data. What happens next depends entirely on your application. This is where you can get creative.

Here are a few examples to get you started with IOT:

Say you travel a lot. If your watch is IOT enabled, it can connect to the internet by itself and set the timezone by itself without you even taking a second look.

Your home air conditioning system can use the weather forecast to control the temperature by itself or switch on or off as you leave the house.
