Wazzup Pilipinas Original Short Stories Series: Rookie

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It is a great sunny day at Francville. I can hear these basketball fans cheering their teams. I feel excited but nervous at the same time. Who wouldn't? It's my first time here in the finals. I can't wait to play for Francville! But who am I in the first place? I am Jae Jordan, a student of Francville University commonly called F.U. But, it doesn't matter.

So, back to business. I can hear the crowd cheering for our team. Why not? It's our home town. 2 minutes left and the game will finally start! Coach Joseph calls for a huddle; we must not lose this game!

There we go! The time is up! The sport's commentator is calling the names of each player! Yeah, as usual, I'm not part of the first five, or the so-called starters. So yeah, I'm here, sitting on the bench, watching and cheering for my team. But that's fine.

"Jump ball!" Shouted the commentator. Both centers jumped high! Unfortunately, our opponent, the Blue Fields team got the possession of the ball. They immediately looked for their star player, first shot, and it’s good! The three point shot sinks in for the Blue Fields team. "Three!!!" shouted the commentator. The ball was inbounded by our captain. On the way to our side of the court, the ball was stolen! They passed it again to their star player, again, he took the shot and again, it's in! Great start for the Blue fields’ team!

Asian Premiere of British Choreographer’s Murakami – Inspired Works At The Peta Theater Center

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Bestsellers like Haruki Murakami’s “Norwegian Wood” have long inspired film, TV and theater adaptations worldwide – but dance? Touted as a “rising star” by Britains’ national daily, the Independent, British choreographer James Cousins dared to.

British Council, PETA Theater Center and the Cultural Center of the Philippines are delighted to present the Asian premiere of British choreographer James Cousins’ contemporary dance works: the highly-acclaimed There We Have Been and its sequel Without Stars. Shows are on Thursday, October 9 (8pm) and Friday, October 10 (3pm and 8pm) at the PETA Theater Center. The twin-bill production will next tour Malaysia and Vietnam this year.

There We Have Been focuses on the first half of Murakami’s novel, wherein two dancers enact the development of relationships between the novel’s protagonist and his late best friend's girlfriend. This duet sees English performers Aaron Vickers and Lisa Welham intensely folding, wrapping and balancing, with the female character never once touching the floor.

Without Stars tells the other half of the story. Framed from the male protagonists’ point of view, the piece for three dancers tells the story of a man on the brink of losing the life of his love. The dance piece features international contemporary dancers Albert Garcia (Spain), Chihiro Kawasaki (Japan) and Georges Hann (UK).

Faking It In "Let's Be Cops" Trailer and Poster Release

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Let’s Be Cops” is the ultimate buddy cop movie except for one thing: they're not cops. When two struggling pals dress as police officers for a costume party, they become neighborhood sensations. But when these newly minted “heroes” get tangled in a real life web of mobsters and dirty detectives, they must put their fake badges on the line.

Faking it real time, these fake cops have just found some real trouble. Starring Damon Wayans Jr. and Jake Johnson, The idea for the movie was born when director/co-writer Luke Greenfield decided to spend Halloween in a police officer’s uniform – a choice that had unexpected consequences.

“My costume designer at the time got me a real LAPD uniform and my buddy and I walked around Los Angeles,” Greenfield remembers. “The sense of power and authority was incredible. I was single at the time, and it became quite easy to talk to women on the street.”

With co-writer and executive producer Nicholas Thomas, Greenfield developed the pitch that was to become LET’S BE COPS. “We came up with the idea quite quickly,” says Thomas. “We pitched the project to 20th Century Fox, and it sold.”

The Old Spaghetti House: A Special Family Day Deserves A Special Family Restaurant

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The family decided to dine out a few days before my daughter's birthday. It was her 16th birthday (gosh ! I'm old already) and taking them to the traditional "langhap-sarap" or "happy meal" restaurant was quite inappropriate already.

Well, for me, it feels like they've all grown up so fast that their favorite restaurant because of the adorable mascots are too childish already at their age. My youngest is going to high school already next year and he has also changed a lot in both physical and behavioral traits. Gone are the fascination for children's games. Though they still love the cartoons on cable TV, they don't mingle with the younger kids anymore and prefer to browse online viewing anime e-comics and videos.

Thus, we spent our weekend dining on a few more elegant restaurants that Sunday immediately after church. Of course, they still prefer the pizza, spaghetti and fried chicken dishes but it must be different from the usual. After all, a special day deserves a special restaurant.

For long life, it's either "pancit" or "spaghetti so The Old Spaghetti House or TOSH came into mind.

He managed to tell me his whole life by sending a mail to me in the exact date of his death.

His parents both died when he is still young, his mother died while delivering his younger sister Shaiya and his father committed suicide after knowing his mother’s death. No one from their family took care of them so they suffer the fate of being an orphan. They stayed there in 5 years, they leaved the orphanage when a rich couple adopted both of them, and he was only 7 years old while Shaiya is 5 when that happened.

CMANC Showcases Improved Buses and Jeepneys at 5th PIMS

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Columbian Manufacturing Corporation (CMANC) has the Filipino passenger in mind. Tinkering on that Pinoy piece of tincan, teh company sets its goal ... to improve the look and performance of a well-know historical icon, the all-time king of the road - the Jeepney!

They now have made it available also in air-conditioned varieties for the convenience of the passengers.

Also, being the exclusive distributor of Daewoo buses, they have also showcased the Newly Designed Commuter Vehicles proudly made in the Philippines, and at the 5th Philippine International Motor Show, they displayed the buses in retro design bringing us back to the Love Bus era.

To give Filipinos a better alternative, CMANC takes the lead in improving the Filipino commuters travel experience. The improved commuter vehicles  will set a new standard in public transportation, offering better quality mass transportation for the Filipinos instead of suffering from the pollution caused by smoke, dust and sweat caused by non-airconditioned vehicles.

The MRT and LRT are still the fastest way to get to a destination but the congestion inside the trains offer a lot of inconveniences. Better to be late but feeling still keeping fresh, motivated and energized.
