Water Sports Equipment: 6 Must-Know Facts

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Water sports are exciting activities to engage in, especially during summer. These sports give a next-level thrill that you cannot find on land. They’re so popular that there are even sports betting sites with slots for water sports. The IRS requires betting companies to deduct 24% of total winnings and submit as gambling winnings taxes. However, these sports are associated with some level of risk. To keep enjoying the sports, understanding various equipment and how to keep yourself safe is essential.

Understanding the Dangers That Come with Water Sports

Drowning is one of the leading causes of death in water sports. When you are at a beach, pool, or lake, ensure you practice the following swimming precautions:

  • Learn CPR techniques so you can deal with any emergencies.
  • If you don’t know how to swim, don’t get into the water.
  • Always have company when swimming.
  • Do not swim while drunk.
  • Ensure you can always spot a lifeguard while in the water.
  • Carry safety gear such as flashlights, toolbox, and maps.
  • Avoid restricted areas and obey warning signs.

It is vital to understand water sports equipment and how it works. Some widely used gear includes dry and wet suits, snorkel masks, life jackets, water skis, canoes, and wake surfers.

Dry and Wet Suits

Drysuits keep you dry while in the water or on the surface. They are made of waterproof and breathable fabric to prevent overheating. The suits are watertight and waterproof, hence keeping all the water out and keeping the body warm. Drysuits also come fitted with purge valves to let out any water that might have gotten in.

Wet suits, on the other hand, retain your body’s heat, hence providing thermal protection. They preserve the body’s heat through the suit’s material and a thin layer of water that make up a protective barrier that allows your body to stay warm for a long time. These suits come in varying thicknesses. The thicker the suit, the more warmth it can retain.

Life Jackets

Life jackets are essential to avoid drowning, hence saving your life. They come in handy in moments of disaster, whether you are a skilled swimmer or not. The jackets are available in different fits and keep you warm while in the water.

Snorkel Masks

A full-face snorkeling mask comes in handy when snorkeling due to several reasons. First, the mask helps to keep water out of your face and provides better visibility. Secondly, it allows normal breathing hence keeping you calmer.

Water Skis

Waterskiing is fun and exciting but can be dangerous if not done carefully. To avoid injury, revisit the hand signals between you and the boat operator. Also, avoid skiing at extreme speeds if you are not used to it. To prevent any accidents, remember to inspect your gear before you set out.

Canoes

Canoeing can be relaxing and fun, but it is also important to remember some safety tips on your next canoeing trip. Always carry life jackets and avoid jerky movements to prevent the canoe from flipping over. Also, avoid rocks and always stay low to avoid losing balance.

Wakesurfers

You can consider trying wake surfing if you haven’t already. But while you are on it, avoid high speeds if you are not used to wake surfing. Also, go for a clear spot to avoid collisions with other boats.

Final Thoughts

While water sports can be thrilling, they can result in dangerous accidents that can sometimes turn fatal. To avoid this, ensure you always familiarize yourself with water sports equipment before you set out. Also, as a general rule of thumb, consult a professional before using these water sports equipment.

Manny Pacquiao defeated by Yordenis Ugas

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

“The Olympian” overpowered “The Legend.”

Manny Pacquiao suffers loss against Yordenis Ugas. Ugas is still the WBA welterweight super champion.

Cuban boxer Ugas defended his WBA super welterweight title against Pacquiao at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Ugas pulls of the career-defining upset over Pacquiao by unanimous decision.

It's not age. George Foreman was still able to beat Michael Moorer at 45, but Manny Pacquiao should definitely hang up his gloves. He's got nothing left to prove as his fame as a boxer is indeed legendary.

Though as a politician, Pacquiao is now among the clowns in the Philippine government.

But knowing majority of the Filipinos who are still blinded by popularity and fame (and money), they will ignore his incompetence and lack of qualification. So the Pacman may still land a position in government.

We do love our celebrities.

Being more of a politician than a boxer (0 laws passed, most absent at the Senate) we can't trust Manny Pacquiao anymore, these politicians will say and do anything just to get your vote and sympathy.

Remember that he once said he is retiring for good but he lied. So there might be another fight soon, maybe after the 2022 elections in the Philippines where he could fight against Ungas  (Duterte) for President or at least Vice President, maybe against somebody else...since he most probably is still an ally of the Duterte administration.

Eduard Folayang Out To Break His Skid At ONE: BATTLEGROUND II

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

At this point, Eduard "Landslide" Folayang should have grown tired of the criticism thrown his way, on whether at 36 years of age, the two-time ONE Lightweight World Champion should already hang his gloves for good.

But the proof is in the pudding, that despite the Igorot warrior being on the losing end of his last three fights, he remains on top of his game and can still hang with the best the lightweight division has to offer.

That's why for Folayang, his next bout against Chinese star Zhang Lipeng in the main event of ONE: BATTLEGROUND II on August 13 in Singapore will be a make-or-break match in its truest form.

"I agree and I see it as a make-or-break, meaning break in a literal way that it will be the fight that will break my skid of losses," he said, with his past slide dropping his record to 22-11.

"Every fight is important to me so yes, I need to be so focused to make it this time. This fight against Zhang means a lot because it will give me the opportunity to step forward again, one step closer to my goal of becoming a champion once more."

It's easy to say that Folayang really has nothing else to prove in his career.

Being the face of Philippine mixed martial arts in the past half-decade, he has led the Filipino charge in the realm of ONE Championship as warriors from Team Lakay showed that it truly can be considered as among the best athletes in the world.

Though his legacy is already intact, Folayang argues that he still has a lot more to give.

"I'm not yet done," a defiant Folayang said. "In fact, I'm more fired up than ever."

It has been more than two years since Folayang last draped that illustrious ONE Lightweight World Championship on his shoulders. And there's no question that he misses the feeling of holding that title on his arms and wearing it on his waist.

But his recent skid also means that Folayang is farther than ever from the pinnacle of the lightweight division, which fuels the doubts thrown his way.

Understanding his current situation, the Team Lakay veteran knows that there's only one way to silence the chatter -- both on his status as one of the best in the weight class and his capabilities to still be on top whenever he enters the ONE Circle.

"Sometimes people who are doing nothing and have nothing to strive for want you to be like them and they do this by talking negatively and pulling people down," he said.

And the only tonic he has in mind? It's not just to win over Zhang, but to win emphatically.

Folayang's last finish came almost five years ago, when his star shot up the heavens with a third round technical knockout win over Shinya Aoki to capture his first ONE Lightweight World Championship at ONE: DEFENDING HONOR in Singapore.

Seeing that formula further cements Folayang's thinking that a win of that magnitude should catapult him back in the conversation among the next possible challengers for current ONE Lightweight World Champion Christian Lee.

"All I do is to pray harder and train smarter. I believe that in the right time, I will be able to get rid of that skid. And that’s why me and my team are working together to bring the win home this time," he said.

But he also knows that he really can't look past Zhang as all Folayang wants is to show that he remains dedicated to his craft and is still one of ONE Championship's elite.

"I want everyone to see and learn how failures will turn into victories if we keep enduring and never give up on our dreams and goals. That's just the message that I want to convey: Never give up on your dreams and never stop improving. I just keep on fighting, continue to watch and learn from others, and be receptive to the advice coming from your coach and team," he said.

"I still have lots of names I have in mind that I want to fight, one of which being that cancelled match against [Yoshihiro] Akiyama. But right now, I need to focus on who's in front of me and that is Zhang. Everything will just follow from there."

NHL Player Tkachuk Utilizes NFT To Raise Funds For Charity

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Matthew Tkachuk comes from a famous hockey family. His father Keith was a 50-goal scorer and both Matthew and his brother, Ottawa Senators forward Brady, were first-round selections in the NHL entry draft.

Calgary Flames forward Matthew is also making NHL history off the ice. He’s the first player in league history to introduce a non-fungible token. NFTs are taking the sports world by storm. NFTs are crypto collectibles, which are basically digital pieces of art that exist in the blockchain like cryptocurrency such as bitcoin and ethereum. Teams and players are utilizing NFTs to offer access and a unique connection between them and their fanbase. This can include perks such as discounts on tickets, private tours of team facilities, autographed memorabilia and even meet and greets with players. They can be bought, sold and traded.

Across the sporting world, the blockchain is being embraced. Teams are enabling the purchase of tickets through cryptocurrency. In the world of sports betting, the vast majority of the top online betting sites listed at vegasbetting.com are accepting Bitcoin and other forms of cryptocurrency as methods to fund their accounts.

Tkachuk admitted he was relatively oblivious to the world of the blockchain prior to the issue of his NFT. “Like anyone else, I really had no idea what it was,” Tkachuk told The Athletic. “And I think early on I probably explained it pretty poorly, but as I’ve started to understand it more I think my explanation has gotten better.”

Tkachuk’s digital artwork for his NFT was created by Canadian artist Rob Dubois. The piece featured two images of the Flames forward. In one, he is scoring an overtime goal between the legs goal. The other captured an up-close image of him chewing on his mouthguard.

Entitled Matthew Tkachuk Genesis, the NFT had 16 different bidders and sold for $27,954. As well the NFT, the winning bidder also received a Tkachuk jersey, a signed stick, and a Zoom meeting with the Calgary star.

Charitable Cause

An added element to Tkachuk’s NFT offering was that it was designed to benefit two charities - the Children’s Hospitals of Calgary and St. Louis.

“It was an exciting opportunity and for me to pair it up with a charitable cause as well, it was a no-brainer for me to get involved,” Tkachuk told Sportsnet. “I felt like this was a new way to show digital art and to play a tiny, tiny part in helping to bring in more donations to the hospitals for the great work they do. It’s awesome. It’s the least I can do.”

The cause of helping children’s hospitals was not only dear to Tkachuk’s heart, it’s also a cause his family has always devoted time and resources to over the years.

“I think the St. Louis one has really touched me personally,” Tkachuk said. “My dad was always involved in that when he was playing. My sister was there for a little bit when she was born.

“We just always had it ingrained in us to give back and Children’s Hospital is one that’s been connected to our family for awhile, so when I came to Calgary, I knew that was exactly what I wanted to do.

“At the end of the day, it’s so important for to have a charitable side to it, too. It’s all going to great charities.”

Engaging With The Fans

As much as he loves the game as hockey, Tkachuk is of the belief that the NHL doesn’t do nearly enough to connect the fans with the personalities of individual players. He thinks NFTs are a way to help increase that bond between players and fans.

“The connection with the sport is great,” Tkachuk said. “To me, hockey is the greatest sport in the world and I don’t think we do a good enough job yet of showing off everybody’s personalities and stuff like that.

“This is another step in showing that and I truly feel that with the help of Greg Dubois, it really showed two aspects of my personality on the ice. One part of its me hanging out with the mouthguard out of my mouth and the other part is me loving scoring goals and having a cool celebration.

“I just think it’s another way to show off how great of a sport hockey is.”

Hidilyn Diaz won PH 's first ever gold medal in Olympics

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

For the first time ever, the Philippine national anthem is played in the Olympics after weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz won the country's first ever gold medal in the Games.

It took a woman to get the Philippines its first ever Olympic gold medal. Congratulations, Hidilyn Diaz! We are proud of you! Mabuhay ka!

For the first time ever, the Philippine national anthem is played in the Olympics after weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz won the country's first ever gold medal in the Games.

The Philippines had never won an Olympic gold medal. Then Hidilyn Diaz, a weight lifter at her fourth Games, finally broke the nearly century-long drought — and achieved two Olympic records in the process.

At least P33 million cash reward awaits Hidilyn Diaz after her historic gold medal performance in the Tokyo Olympics.

Under Sec. 8 of the Republic Act No. 10699, Hidilyn Diaz is entitled to a cash prize of P10,000,000.

I'm sure she's not after the money, but P10M is a low amount for a feat that's almost a century in the making. And I hope we support our athletes to win, not just when they win.

As of today, these were what she has been promised:

10M - PSC (Philippine Sports Commission) + Medal of Valor

10M - Manny Pangilinan

10M - Ramon Ang

3M - Rep. Mikee Romero

2.5 - Zamboanga City

5M - Dennis Uy + Lifetime Free Gas from Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, Inc.

200K - Angeles City Pampanga Government

- Lifetime Flights - airasia travels

- House and Lot worth 4M - Century Properties Real Estate

- Condo in Eastwood worth 14M - Megaworld Corporation

- House and Lot in Tagaytay - POC - Philippine Olympic Committee - Olympic.PH President (Abraham Tolentino)

- Appliances - XTREME Appliances

- 80,000 Free Miles Per Year (Lifetime) - Philippine Airlines

- 50,000 worth of furniture from Furniture Source Philippines

In 2019, Malacañang released the so-called oust-Duterte matrix, which included then Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz.

Two years later, the same Malacañang lauded Diaz for clinching the country’s first Olympic gold medal.

Hidilyn Diaz is the timeline cleanse we need after all that lies and garbage coming from Duterte  for nearly 3 hours.

The only good thing about this SONA is that, finally— it’s his last. But please ‘wag nating hayaang masundan ng isa pang Duterte.

But this is really a symbolic and historic win for us. Hidilyn Diaz, a woman and an athlete red-tagged by the gov’t for asking support, defeated China to get our first ever olympic gold on Duterte’s last SONA.

Martin Nguyen is New One World Featherweight Champion

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The largest sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), once again electrified the iconic Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with another evening of authentic world-class martial arts action. ONE: QUEST FOR GREATNESS delivered a series of compelling bouts, performed by the absolute best in local and international martial arts talent. In the main event, Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen shocked the world by stopping Marat “Cobra” Gafurov in their rematch to become the new ONE Featherweight World Champion.

In the main event of ONE: QUEST FOR GREATNESS, Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen of Australia completed his journey through ONE Championship’s featherweight ranks by upsetting previously-unbeaten Russian champion Marat “Cobra” Gafurov via knockout within two rounds to clinch the highly-coveted ONE Featherweight World Championship. Gafurov dominated the first round with his magnificent grappling arsenal, but Nguyen found his groove in the second frame as he tore apart his Russian foe with his striking. Recognizing an opening, Nguyen countered Gafurov’s jab with an overhand right that knocked out the now former champion at the center of the ONE Championship cage. Nguyen’s remarkable conquest of Gafurov earned him the “GoDaddy Knockout of the Night” award.

Martin Nguyen, newly crowned ONE Featherweight World Champion, stated: “I just want to dedicate this fight, not only to Malaysia for being so welcoming and having such a beautiful country. This is for my dad. He was my inspiration for the whole camp when I mentally broke. (He and) the boys kept me together. I’ve got a deadly overhand right, but it’s not my only weapon. Thank you to Marat [Gafurov] for giving me the opportunity.”

In the co-main event of the evening, former world title challenger Ev “E.T.” Ting of Malaysia placed his name back in the winner’s column by overwhelming Japanese veteran and former ONE Welterweight World Champion Nobutatsu Suzuki to win by devastating technical knockout. From the opening bell, Ting paced himself well, keeping Suzuki at range with his accurate striking before executing the end sequence. After staggering Suzuki with a combination, Ting swarmed his opponent to score the referee stoppage.

22-year-old Agilan “The Alligator” Thani of Malaysia authored one of the most dominant performances of the night, placing himself back on the winning track with a unanimous decision victory over Sherif “The Shark” Mohamed of Egypt. Showing off new skills and techniques that he learned from training with the world-famous Team Quest, Thani swamped Mohamed with his wrestling while stifling his opponent with submission attempts. The former world title challenger finished the three-round welterweight contest on a strong note, delivering crisp ground strikes to the delight of his roaring countrymen.

Filipino knockout artist Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon completed yet another scintillating finish, his second in a row, by defeating Australian submission specialist Reece “Lightning” McLaren by knockout. Belingon finished the job in just 62 seconds, dropping his Australian opponent with a hard right straight before punctuating with follow-up strikes on the ground to compel referee Olivier Coste to step in and halt the contest. The revered Team Lakay veteran recorded his seventh knockout win as a professional with the impressive triumph over McLaren.

In a clash of high-caliber flyweights, Malaysia’s Gianni Subba captured a hard-earned victory in front of a jubilant hometown crowd by routing Japan’s Riku “The Outsider” Shibuya. Subba showcased his pinpoint accurate striking early on, peppering Shibuya with stinging right hands and spinning back-kicks in the first round. Although Shibuya easily converted his takedown attempts in the succeeding rounds to avoid striking exchanges, Subba kept himself active on the canvas, fishing for submissions while landing the more telling blows. In the end, Subba’s efforts were rewarded with a unanimous decision.

“Mighty” May Ooi of Singapore scored a major victory in her ONE Championship debut by submitting Malaysian female martial arts superstar Ann “Athena” Osman in the first round. After surviving a huge right hand from Osman, Ooi took matters to the canvas, where she maneuvered her cage counterpart with ease courtesy of her impeccable ground game. The 41-year-old Singaporean executed a flawless transition into a rear-naked choke that left Osman no choice but to tap out.

Former ONE Strawweight World Champion Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke of Thailand brushed off a lackluster start to topple Robin “The Ilonggo” Catalan of the Philippines via second-round technical knockout. Showcasing tremendous power with every strike and drawing cheers from the crowd after each landed blow, Dejdamrong’s thunderous knees proved too much for Catalan as the Filipino lost his footing, forcing the referee to wave it off and award the victory to the celebrated Thai kickboxer.

Christian “The Warrior” Lee of Singapore exhibited stellar form, proving himself a top featherweight contender in ONE Championship by scoring an impressive submission over Malaysia’s Keanu Subba. Both highly-touted prospects started out aggressively, but it was Lee who showed a more capable set of grappling skills. Lee spun a web of crafty grappling to overwhelm Subba as the 19-year-old Singaporean standout was able to get the submission finish in the third round, making Subba tap from a wrenching armbar.

Emilio “The Honey Badger” Urrutia of the United States made a triumphant promotional debut in ONE Championship by edging out Team Lakay stalwart Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly of the Philippines in their three-round featherweight encounter. Urrutia relied on his solid ground game to pacify his Filipino opponent’s firepower in the stand-up trade, wearing down Kelly and steering him to a decisive victory by way of unanimous decision.

Kicking off ONE: QUEST FOR GREATNESS was a strawweight encounter between wushu practitioner Rene Catalan of the Philippines and Chinese grappling prodigy Bu Huo You Ga. After dropping his opponent with a clean left straight in first round, Catalan secured top control and went to work. With a dominant top game, Catalan notched his third straight victory, defeating Bu Huo as all three judges saw the bout in favor of Catalan to win by unanimous decision.

One Women's Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee Finishes Istela Nunes with Anaconda Choke

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The largest sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship (ONE), once again electrified the Singapore Indoor Stadium as the organization played host to yet another evening of authentic martial arts action. ONE: DYNASTY OF CHAMPIONS showcased the absolute best in local and international martial arts talent, featuring a packed card of compelling bouts that left the crowd on the edge of their seats. In the main event, ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee of Singapore retained her title with a spectacular submission finish over top contender Istela Nunes of Brazil. In the co-main event of the evening, ONE Welterweight World Champion Ben Askren made quick work of Malaysia’s Agilan Thani to win via arm triangle choke.

In an exciting main event showdown between two talented females, reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee overcame a spirited performance from challenger Istela Nunes to win by submission in the second round. After catching Nunes with a twister in the first stanza, the bout appeared all but over. However, through sheer willpower and determination, Nunes was able to power through the situation and survive. In the second round, Lee went right back to work on the ground, finishing Nunes with an anaconda choke to retain her title.

“I really love you guys and it’s an honor to fighter here (in Singapore) as your champion. To everyone who is watching from all around the world, thank you guys so much, it means the world to me,” said Lee in the post-fight interview. “The anaconda choke is one of our favorites, so I was really happy to win with that submission tonight.”

In the co-main event, reigning ONE Welterweight World Champion and one of the best fighters in the world pound-for-pound, Ben “Funky” Askren of the United States easily took care of previously unbeaten Agilan “Alligator” Thani of Malaysia, taking his younger foe down to the mat at will with his world-class wrestling and finishing him with an arm triangle choke. On the mat, the former US Olympian caught Thani in a mounted crucifix and pounded on the Malaysian before locking in the fight-ending submission just past the two-minute mark of the first round.

Geje Eustaquio Eyes Decisive Finish in Rematch vs Thai Rival

Wazzup Piipinas!

Filipino martial artist Geje Eustaquio has no plans to leave the outcome of his upcoming bout in the hands of the three judges at cageside as he is set to share the ONE Championship cage with fierce Thai rival Anatpong Bunrad.

Both men are scheduled to square off against each other on the undercard of ONE: DYNASTY OF HEROES, which takes place at the 12,000-capacity Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore on 26 May.

Eustaquio and Bunrad first crossed paths in April 2015 at ONE: VALOR OF CHAMPIONS, where the latter took a split decision victory.

“The last time we fought, it was a razor-thin decision,” Eustaquio said, looking back on his close decision setback to Bunrad two years ago.

The 28-year-old Baguio City native Eustaquio feels that a consistent work rate in the rematch will be vital in his search for redemption against his Thai counterpart.

“Maybe I lacked the quantity in striking. There were also cases when his leg kicks, though those were weak ones, did connect. It didn’t hurt as much, but in the eyes of the judges, it had a big impact. So maybe this time, I’ll avoid those leg kicks,” Eustaquio said.

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Global FC Goes for a Powerful Win Against CERES FC

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Two-time United Football League (UFL) Champion GLOBAL FC sent a powerful message to its opponent Ceres FC last Thursday night at Rizal Memorial Stadium, that they are out for glory. Defending Champion Ceres FC was undefeated until their GLOBAL FC match.

GLOBAL FC won 2-1 against Ceres in a match where everyone was on the edge of their seats. GLOBAL FC players Milan Nikolic and Matthew Hartmann scored 1 goal each.

Coach Leigh Manson predicted it right when he said after the Loyola win that, “In a game wherein Azkals play against other Azkals, nobody wants to lose that game.”

Azkals players from GLOBAL FC Misagh Bahadoran, Daisuke Sato, Dennis Villanueva, Amani Aguinaldo and Patrick Deyto went against Ceres’ Stephan Schrock, Martin Steuble, Patrick Reichelt, Manny Ott and Kevin Ingreso.

“We are continuing to have a formula and a plan that works for the team. The players know their jobs when they go out, they also know what we expect from them. You know with these last 2 games it wasn’t just about the technical abilities, it is about heart”, Coach Leigh Manson says.

Manson continues, “Our chances are good as anybody now. There’s nobody that we fear, respect yes, fear no.”

Global FC Blanks Loyola MERALCO Sparks FC, 2-0

Wazzup Pilipinas!

There’s no stopping two-time UFL Champion GLOBAL FC now.

Loyola Meralco Sparks FC saw a formidable opponent in GLOBAL FC last Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium as GLOBAL FC blanked Loyola FC, with a 2-0 score.

The Saturday night crowd at Rizal Memorial Stadium saw players Omid Nazari and Arthur Kouassi contributing 1 goal each in behalf of the Leyte-based team.

First goal was by Arthur Kouassi, during the 42nd minute of the first half of the match, while the 2nd goal taking place at the 2nd half of the match.

Omid Nazari, who became a marked man after his hat trick during GLOBAL FC’s UFL opening game against Pasargad FC, was named Man of the Match.

Coach Leigh Manson says,“On Thursday we will have the Ceres game, which is obviously the most challenging among the recent games we’ve had. We are not yet where we should be, but I think slowly, we are gaining momentum which is good. I think with Ceres next week we probably have to go higher (take it a notch higher). But when we play against each other, I think you’ll find that the teams lift themselves because there’ll be a lot of Azkals players, playing against each other, they know each other very well and nobody wants to lose that game.”

“GLOBAL FC fans are also encouraged to root for their team this Thursday, March 3. There is nothing like a stadium full of screaming fans”, Coach Manson adds.

GLOBAL FC vs. Ceres FC takes place on March 3, Thursday, 8:30 p.m. at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

PFF Advisory on AFF Suzuki Cup 2016 Group Stage Hosting

Wazzup Pilipinas!

After inspection by its rights holder Lagardere Sports (formerly World Sports Group), the Asean Football Federation (AFF) has disapproved the 15-thousand seat Rizal Memorial Football Stadium as primary venue of the Group Stage matches to be hosted by the Philippines. The 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup competition regulations require among others a minimum 30-thousand seat capacity for primary venues of group stage matches.

While the 20-thousand seat privately-owned Philippine Sports Stadium has also been nominated, AFF however requires submission of a written stadium hire contract. Deadline of 31 January 2016 and further deadline of 9 February 2016 have lapsed without PFF receiving a signed contract from PSS.

With no qualified stadia at the moment, PFF is compelled to bring the matter to AFF and will take up the stadia qualification during the AFF Council meeting on 12 March 2016 at Danang, Vietnam.
