Wazzup Pilipinas!

Passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) can expect better comfort room facilities soon, as the rehabilitation of 121 toilets is set to be completed at Terminals 2, 3, and 4 under the “Kayo ang Boss Ko” or “KBK” Toilet Facilities Improvement Project by December this year.

This is part of the efforts of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) to modernize the country’s primary gateway.

The P32.6-Million project includes the installation of major fixtures such as water closets, sensor-type urinals, lavatories, tiles, ceilings, and waterproofing works. As of early this month, around 15 percent of civil works have been completed.

For Terminal 2, a total of 26 toilet facilities are included for the rehabilitation. Based on an MIAA report, 16 comfort rooms located in the passenger movement area are now undergoing repairs. Out of 85 toilets at Terminal 3, 26 have begun rehabilitation. The rehabilitation of 10 toilets at Terminal 4 commences this month.

Who Wants to Be the Philippines' Next Top Blogger?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

What are the signs that your blog has made significant accomplishments? Will you still be the same blogger after all the popularity and success? Will you be raising your standards when you feel you are now among the "top" and "influential" in demand bloggers? Would you want to be the next top blogger?

Some would start branding themselves as elite, authority, influential, class A, top, or whatever seems so "up above there" that you would feel somehow envious of their achievements.

Some would start surround themselves with fellow bloggers whom they think are equally "cool" and "hot" ..following the saying that "Bloggers of the same number of followers, blog together."

Some would be so choosy that they won't attend an event if it's not exclusive to only a few of them. They would even ignore an event that is open to the public....and if given the chance, they would only invite their blogger friends even if there are better bloggers out there.

Some would feel they owe the blogging community the responsibility to "police" the community, so they will post anything that would humiliate their fellow bloggers. Thinking others would easily believe them without consulting facts. Only fools listen to fools. I pity those that are so gullible.

Whatever their style or strategy, "Walang basagan ng trip!" Let them be. Let them do what makes them happy. Never talk back if you want to remain alive. Talk back and you're dead!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Hey, there's a new Proactiv promo pack available in the market right now and its called the Proactiv 60 Day Kit Limited Edition Pack that comes with a free Proactiv Advanced Daily Oil Control 50ml. This promo pack is exclusively available at Watsons’ outlets and SM Department Store branches nationwide. Make sure to ask for it as items on display at Watsons' or SM may be non-promo packs or dummy boxes only.

We were able to review the Proactiv Advanced Daily Oil Control for several days and it was evident that my previously oily face was significantly reduced. I could effectively see the difference. When before I used to see my face looking so oily and unappealing, this time it was totally controllable.

The Proactiv Advanced Daily Oil Control is designed to absorb excess oil to help give a more mattified appearance while helping to assist the skin in the fight against acne. This lightweight, oil-free moisturizer helps the skin to remain soft, smooth and hydrated without looking or feeling greasy, giving way to a more satiny, flawless looking complexion. It helps control excess oil throughout the day to keep skin from shining and makeup from streaking, and gently balances the skin while keeping your skin hydrated and healthy looking.

Robots Will Soon Rule the Earth But Let's Start with Some Robotics Competition

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I can't help but think about Terminator movies every time we see robots doing what man used to be doing manually. A lot of labor-intensive tasks have turned automated that there is that fear that robots will soon rule the Earth, or at least replace man as the worker. It does make life a lot easier by providing us with convenient, less prone to errors, and immediate solutions... but man is becoming obsolete and turned everyone into lazy beings that are waiting to be spoon-fed. Yeah, we see fitness and health buffs sweating it out at gyms, the streets and parks but they could be similarly losing the pounds if they worked their butts doing household chores.

I know there are a lot of positive effects towards modernization particularly in robotics, but like everything else, there's a few negativity looming in the air especially when you hear about company lay-offs and manpower reductions. Robots have somehow made life a lot lay-back and easy. It made everyone hopeful of the next technological wonder which is eventually going to happen whether we like it or not. We cannot stop the future from unfolding but we can however change our mindset for positive thinking.

We can learn to take advantage of these technological breakthroughs by embracing them and hoping it will create alternative jobs to keep us humans still employed in a work that will require our skills and knowledge. After all, humans did the programming and creation of the robots so its but necessary to still keep us around. Robotics may no longer be a sci-fi imaginary theory from the movies, TV series and comic books anymore, but humans still have an upper-hand in making them function well.

Flying Trapeze Philippines: The First and Only Flying Trapeze Rig in the Philippines

Wazzup Pilipinas!

A trapeze is a gymnastic or acrobatic aerial apparatus composed of a short horizontal bar hung by ropes or metal straps from a support. We commonly see them in circus performances where trapeze artists up above a high elevation do a lot of exhibitions to the amazement of the audience below. Trapeze acts may be static, swinging or flying, and may be performed solo, double, triple or as a group act. Of course, it is a lot fun seeing these men and women swinging from one trapeze bar to the next especialy when they do spectacular seemingly death-defying stunts in groups. Though thrill-seekers will surely  have an adrenaline delight to the extreme, there are some dangers when done without any supervision.

Yes, trapeze is a serious circus acrobat.  The good thing is, nowadays, you don’t have to be in the circus to try this art.  Will Hsu, a trapeze expert, started learning trapeze since he was 8 years old.  Now, he wants to share his passion through Flying Trapeze Philippines (FTP).

FTP is the FIRST and ONLY full size Flying Trapeze rig in the Philippines and one of only a few in all of Asia! It is located in the heart of Bonifacio Global City, Taguig specifically at Lot 11-A at the corner of34th St. corner 9th Ave. just near Mercato Centrale and almost opposite the F1 hotel.

FTP strives to make the sport of flying trapeze available to anyone seeking an alternative fitness regimne, inspiration, artistry and a few hours of fun. Their mission is to excite, entertain and challenge students of all ages (6 and above), shapes and sizes to live life to the fullest within a safe and trusted environment.

DOH, 3M Push for International Sterilization Standards in Local Hospitals

Wazzup Pilipinas!

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), hundreds of patients around the world are affected by healthcare-associated infections that greatly affect patients’ health. In the Philippines alone, over 500,000 patients get Surgical Site Infections (SSI) each year due to poor sanitation standards in hospitals. About 10% die due to these infections.

The most common infections include Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, and Pseudomonas bacteria. Surgery patients often get infected through various forms of contact, such as contaminated surgical instruments, or physical contact with a contaminated caregiver that transfers microorganisms to the surgical wound site. Microorganisms in the air, and those already in the patient’s body can also reach the wound and seriously infect the patient.

To address and prevent post-operative infections the Department of Health released Guidelines On Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilization of Reusable Medical Devices In Hospital Facilities in the Philippines. The guidelines aim to improve patient care in health facilities with the efficient use of limited government resources without compromising the quality of care. The issued guidelines also hoped to provide the best practices in reprocessing of reusable medical devices in the central sterile supply department of hospitals.

According to the DOH, patients who undergo surgery have about 1 to 3 percent chance of developing SSI infections, post-op, in parts of the body where surgery has taken place. The skin is a natural protective barrier against infection, but a break in the skin due to surgery makes that area very vulnerable to germs and microorganisms in the environment.

The Great Walled City Run: Fun Run Along the Heritage Sites of Intramuros

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It would be great to run around the heritage sites of a city and experience a feeling of history while sweating it out with other runners. A fun run combined with a spirit of passionate respect towards the relics and structures of the past that most of us could only read in books and watch from documentaries can be relived.

I studied in Intramuros, specifically at the Mapua Institute of Technology, where i took up my engineering course, but honestly, I never got to enjoy roaming around the city. We were just to busy with school work and other projects that spending our spare time appreciating the ruins and heritage sites was never part of our itinerary.

It really is strange that we normally would plan to visit another far away place just to see the same old and historical sites, but the ones that are at hand and very near our areas are neglected and taken for granted. Since it was a common and ordinary sight for those of us who study nearby, we rarely gave it any importance. Or I was just probably too hooked in trying to finish my studies as early as possible, to get home quickly to work on my assignmenst and projects, to study my lessons for upcoming exams, to work on my thesis and projects,  rest and sleep for another day of hectic school activities.

In celebration of the 56th founding anniversary of Knights of Columbus Fraternal Association of the Philippines, Inc. (KCFAPI), there will be an amazing fun run called the Great Walled City Run happening at the walled city of Intramuros Manila on September 7, 2014.

Remembering Robin Williams with The Angriest Man in Brooklyn Special Advance Screening

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Angriest Man in Brooklyn is said to be Robin Williams' last movie and it coincidentally also deals with depression or somewhat like mid-life crisis. Robin plays Henry Altmann, always unhappy and angry at the world including everyone in it. He is the kind of person who always find fault from everyone. Later he learns from Doctor Sharon Gill, played by Mila Kunis, that he has brain aneurym and that he only has 90 minutes to live. Shocked by this news, he goes out into the world trying to do his best to correct hi past mistakes the best way he can. However, he was also fixated on killing himself before the sad fate of losing his life. Everyone else involved in his life, like his wife and son, along with the doctor, goes out on a search for "The Angriest Man in Brooklyn."

We watched these story developments of the movie unfold while being pampered at the Foot Massage Lounge located at the 2nd Level of Forum South Global at Bonifacio Global City. We were treated to a soothing massage, coupled by some chips, peanuts, sandwich and cola for snacks.

The Foot Massage Lounge is a little massage place that specializes on pampering your foot, and giving a little bit of this and that all over your body. They have such a cute ad cozy place that will totally relax you. Their large wide screen TVs can have your favorite movies playing while their staff work on you.

Octo Arts Films will be showing the movie at theaters on August 20, 2014, that's today, to remember Robin Williams. As we all know, the comedian actor apparently killed himself. He was found hanging at his place and was declared as a suicide brought about by depression.

Abaya Blaming Train Drivers on MRT Crash

Wazzup Pilipinas!

While the Metro Rail Transit management is still examining the
train crash last wednesday if it was a mechanical or human failure and while many asks who to put blame on DOTC Sec. Joseph Emilio Abaya concludes that blame to the two train drivers. He insists and had them booked by the Pasay City police.

Reading between the lines that’s certainly to cover up the real culprit: careless maintenance of the railway by the contractor, Marlo dela Cruz. Many do not know but dela Cruz is a close friend to Abaya....A Liberal Party’s friend.

A train derails as it went fast crashing its barrier at the terminal's Taft station on Wednesday, August 13.

The incident injured several passengers (at least 38) and causes a post to fall over a car. The story spreads right ahead making the whole day into panic mode.

Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya's  comment on riding the MRT:

"Riding is a personal decision. I won't go on my way to convince people to ride the MRT." irked a lot of riders.

For many riders, this comment was like an insult.

Workshop Weekends: Make Your Weekends Count with PETA

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The weekdays often mean high intensity work and stress for young professionals and students. Luckily, the weekends are there to help them recharge and get away from all of the pressure; but since most of these people have been worn out to the point of zombification, weekends are spent catching up on rest and sometimes even finishing the work that was left over from the last week.

This July, the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) pushes young professionals to make their weekends count with “Workshop Weekends”. The program encourages students and professionals to put their show face on and drop their paperwork (at least during the weekend) to work on their dreams of becoming a stage performer.

Freedom and self-expression

Stress. Work. Studies. Expectations. Although these are challenges in life that all must overcome, these can sometimes also become limitations for our aspirations and dreams. With “Workshop Weekends”, enrolees are given the chance to reach for the stars and discover who they truly are through artistic performance.

Tricia Garcia, previous enrolee and musician, claims that the Workshop Weekends, “gave [her] a big sense of freedom and self-expression.” She also says that the Workshop Weekends has taught her how to be unafraid of mistakes and criticism which in turn made her feel stronger and free of anxiety.

Chef Arch's Lime: Street Food na Pina-Sosyal sa Mandaluyong

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We've all seen how unsanitary street food are because they are prone to the pollution, the dust and the smoke, plus the elements of sun and rain, add to it the improper hygiene and lack of cleanliness by the vendors from their handling and preparation of the food, to the cooking and presentation to the customers  but Pinoys belonging to the lower class are mostly unaffected and rarely complain.

We don't care much about suffering from hepatitis or other kinds of diseases that we may get from food spoiled by the many factors surrounding the preparation of food and its source mainly because we cannot afford to be choosy. Like they said "You get your money's worth.

But I have to disagree especially when there are food spots in town that offers the same opportunity to feast on street food but with quality control. The bonus is that it gets to be served to you with a touch of "sosyal" or glamorously styled like that of gourmet dishes.Where else can you find "isaw" (chicken intestine) as among the toppings for a pizza? or our favorite ice scramble served the way you'll enjoy it more?

You can find gourmet street food at Chef Arch's Lime that will truly make you think twice of returning to "Manong" at the street corner. Though they still have only one branch, it's being frequented by a lot of people from the neighborhood, nearby cities, and as far as the places you wouldn't imagine being there.

They've been featured in many newspapers, magazines, TV shows and blogs for their unique touches on dishes that modernizes street food into a higher level.

The team earlier held a press conference at Skippy’s Bar and Grill at BGC a few days ago to share the program to the members of the media. According to the ATFAP officials who were part of the panel, they are holding the event as part of their commitment to promote the sport and build a program to prepare them and future team members for the 2016 IFAF Asian competition. Anybody, whether Filipino or foreigner, can register and be part of the pool and undergo training to develop their individual fundamentals and skills under the Pilipinas Aguilas.

The Pilipinas Aguilas lost at a previous match last April at Tokyo, Japan mainly because their few months of training does not entirely qualify them as a sufficient force to battle against opponents with several years of advantage. They know that their weakness is the apparent non-existence of significant opportunities for training of existing and potential members. This is why they are very keen in establishing a program that will make the sport easier to access by those who are very much interested to be a part of the team.

Everything else becomes easy when we are free of stress and sickness, or when we at least know how to control or moderate our lifestyle towards a better  and healthier life.

You won't find any other event as similar and as big and comprehensive as this one. Everyone is looking forward to several days of informative, entertaining and beneficial events.

Profilers of the Unknown: Ghost Tour with the Paranormal Investigators

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I was really hoping I could see a ghost during my lifetime. I'm your typical skeptic who would love to dare everything around me. I feel that life is too short that I want to experience everything possible. My bucket list is so full I need a second, and third one perhaps...or maybe an infinite number just to satisfy my thirst for the unexplained.

I have that real desire to find out the truth behind the mysterious and enigmatic. You cannot imagine the huge overwhelming persistence to get out there and discover the answers to our many questions. There are so many things I would prefer to tackle directly and upfront, and confronting ghosts are among them.

Ghosts are said to be former living beings that could not separate themselves from the worldly desires. They couldn't leave our world and are doomed to repeat a portion of their lives endlessly. It's like an incomplete task that needs to be fulfilled somehow. But no one could really provide an explanation that is fully supported by logical, technical and scientific evidences. There would always be disbelief when there are so many baffling questions looming around.

Chili Asylum: The Taste That Deliciously Lingers

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I was so curious with the name of the brand that I went out of my way to communicate with the owner directly via email. I got her card from a previous foodie event that I attended a few weeks ago and got so hooked on the taste of the sample. I really wanted more but there were just too many food concessionaires that day that i decided to hold my eagerness and craving and try the others for the meantime.

Sadly, I never got to finish even half of the 75 food providers that day, but interestingly, the taste of this particular dish lingered all throughout the day even after I went home all bloated and sleepy already due to the many food samples we got to enjoy at the event.

I was impressed with a few of the food and Chili Asylum was amazingly distinctive. Thus I searched deep into the spot where I kept all the business cards I got from the event and emailed Isi Laureano, self-proclaimed "Chefotographer." I figured it's an artsy way of describing her multi-skilled professions. She must be a Chef and a photographer rolled into one. Nowadays, you make your own designation similar to how I call myself a "Social Media Evangelist" mainly because I'm an opinionated social media specialist who loves to do sermons among my friends and acquaintances.

A moment when we are completely enthralled by the beauty of a place that we cannot help but stare and wonder how they were able to setup such a magnificent paradise-like destination.
