Team Lakay’s Thunder Kid Lito Adiwang Has ONE Super Series on His Mind

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The highly-anticipated ONE: A NEW BREED II pre-recorded broadcast is set to air this Friday night, 11 September, and there is a host of compelling martial arts matchups on hand to be excited about.

One person who will be watching the show closely, especially the dramatic main event between 4-time Muay Thai World Champion Pongsiri PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym of Thailand and WBC Super Lightweight Champion Sean “Clubber” Clancy of Ireland, is our very own Lito Adiwang.

More fondly known as “Thunder Kid,” Adiwang is currently at home in Baguio City with the rest of his Team Lakay teammates. Ahead of this Friday night’s martial arts blockbuster, Adiwang offers his take on the spectacular main event, and how he thinks the action will go down.

“It’s champion versus champion in the main event. Sean Clancy is a technical fighter from Ireland who went to Thailand to train and fight there and eventually become a champion. He’s even faced some legends of the sport like Saenchai. That’s how talented and good he is,” said Adiwang.

“But in this fight, I have to go for Pongsiri. I believe Pongsiri will bring everything he’s got into this fight. For me, he has the edge in experience and his fighting style is aggressive. He’s a pressure fighter who loves to come forward. I see him winning the fight by attacking with powerful striking combinations, putting the pressure on Clancy until he breaks him down. I do wish them both the best of luck.”

Adiwang is no stranger to the world of striking martial arts. After all, he is a 2-time former Philippine National Wushu Champion. Building his reputation by joining Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series and wreaking havoc on the opposition.

He is currently riding a seven-bout winning streak, with only one of those victories reaching the final bell. True to his nickname, Adiwang has taken ONE Championship’s strawweight division by storm.

ONE Championship allows its athletes to cross-compete between striking disciplines and MMA. The most notable transition has been that of former 2-sport ONE World Champion Stamp Fairtex, who has competed in Muay Thai, kickboxing, and mixed martial arts. Another notable name is France’s Fabio Pinca, who recently made his mixed martial arts debut.

When asked if he would one day consider competing in ONE Super Series since he is such a huge fan, Adiwang responded positively.

“The thought has crossed my mind. That’s definitely something that I plan for the future. I love fighting and striking, and I can see myself being successful if I make that transition. Of course, there’s a perfect time for everything, and if that time comes, I would love to compete in ONE Super Series. Right now though, I need to focus on my MMA career and prove myself in my division. I want to become an MMA world champion,” said Adiwang.

“ONE Super Series is the premier striking league in the world. The fact that ONE is signing the best of the best, legends of the striking martial arts, fans can see champion versus champion fights here. But even though ONE Super Series has a lot of champions and legends, they also give equal opportunity and chances to contenders who are fighting for their dreams and trying to climb to the top.”

ONE: A NEW BREED II was a closed-door, audience-free event previously recorded from Bangkok, Thailand.

The main event featured a showdown between 4-time Muay Thai World Champion Pongsiri
PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym and former WBC Super Lightweight World Champion Sean “Clubber” Clancy of Ireland. The event also showcased the highly-anticipated debut of PBA Thailand Champion Supergirl Jaroonsak Muaythai, who took on Argentinian Muay Thai Champion Milagros Lopez.

The celebrity and jewelry designer is running special Kawali-Kasan episodes for the second season of her online cooking show, Kitchen Collabs, to inspire her audience to practice sustainability in their own kitchens by sharing healthy and eco-friendly recipes to try, as home cooking continues to become a popular hobby during the quarantine period. As a long-time food security advocate, Concepcion shared her excitement in using her platform not just to promote mindful consumption practices and support our local food producers, but to also fundraise for WWF-PH’s conservation projects.

“During these challenging times na may pandemic, we just want to make sure that we support those who work tirelessly for us. Frontliner din natin ang mga farmers na Pinoy dahil sila ang nagpro-provide sa atin ng ating mga vegetables, ang ating mga pagkain. Also, when you donate, we will be helping 100 Filipino kids learn more about the environment and how to protect the planet,” (During these challenging pandemic times, we just want to make sure that we support those who work tirelessly for us. Our Filipino farmers are also frontliners, because they provide us with vegetables and food), said Concepcion.

Kawali-Kasan: A Sustainable Home Cooking Series

“We wanted to show the connection of our food choices to the environment and its impact. Maganda yung we are able to connect with chefs who are also believers of this cause, kasi makikita natin na even in our own kitchen, we can bring our advocacy and make a difference, one plate at a time,” (We wanted to show the connection of our food choices to the environment and its impact. It’s great that we are able to connect with chefs who are also believers of this cause, because through them we are able to see that even in our own kitchen, we can bring our advocacy and make a difference, one plate at a time), shared Roque.

FDCP's Film Industry Conference Goes Online for 2020 Edition

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In keeping with an eventful September in honor of Philippine Cinema and the industry, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) will be hosting the online edition of the Film Industry Conference (FIC) from September 11 to 15. Launched in 2017 and scheduled for its fourth edition this year, the FDCP-organized Film Industry Conference brings together several international film industry experts and stakeholders to discuss trends in the film industry through a series of public lectures and masterclasses.

FIC Online 2020 is a major part of FDCP’s efforts in supporting the continued growth of the FIlipino filmmaking community. Through several local and international partnerships, the conference will bring in film industry experts to discuss some of the most pressing topics in filmmaking today. Such partnerships include international organizations, film festivals, and film labs such as Netflix, Full Circle Lab, Locarno Film Festival, Rotterdam Lab and more. The various FIC mentors and speakers will be presenting opportunities and platforms pertinent to Filipino producers and filmmakers, particularly those who wish to develop, produce, and distribute their projects internationally.

FIC Online 2020 features speakers from various international programs and festivals including Locarno Open Doors and Rotterdam Lab

Dubbed FIC Online 2020, this year’s iteration of the Film Industry Conference will be conducted online and will feature eight (8) public sessions free and accessible to all, and six (6) ‘masterclasses’ which are recommended for film industry professionals and enthusiasts. As part of the program, a number of the lectures and masterclasses will tackle filmmaking topics with an eye toward the impact and consequences of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Through the online video communications platform Zoom, the public sessions will be free and accessible through online registration.

Filipina Filmmaker Bianca Balbuena will be moderating Public Session 8 in FIC Online 2020.

The eight public sessions to be held at the conference consist of a variety of topics valuable to those wishing to work and learn more about the film industry. Aspiring or up-and-coming filmmakers, writers, directors, and film students may find these classes worthwhile. The sessions include topics such as ‘Getting into Online Film Labs,’ ‘Netflix: Showcasing The Best of Filipino Content,’ ‘Southeast Asia Co-Production Grant & Philippines’ ASEAN Co-Production Fund,’ ‘European Film Labs: Roundtable Discussion With Rotterdam Lab and Locarno Open Doors,’ and more.

FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza Diño will be moderating a panel discussing Filipino content on Netflix.

Meanwhile, the ‘masterclasses’ provide more specific and practical knowledge about working in the industry from those who have succeeded in it. These masterclasses cover broad topics across the different sides of the film industry’s spectrum, from writing, editing, production, and more. They are particularly recommended for film industry professionals and enthusiasts wishing to advance in their field and film industry knowledge.

The six masterclasses offered in Film Industry Conference 2020 are ‘Editing During Quarantine,’ ‘Filmmakers Guide to Film Distribution,’ ‘Financing Your Film and Getting a Co-production on Lockdown,’ ‘Writing During Quarantine,’ ‘Pitching Your Project Virtually,’ and ‘The Success of Marketing Distribution of Genre Films.’ They will be available for between PHP 800 to 1,000 PHP per class or for a bundle of PHP 5,000 for premium access to all masterclasses.

FIC Online 2020 features a panel discussing filmmaking in Southeast Asia.

FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza Diño spoke about the Film Industry Conference continuing with an online edition for 2020 and said, “Since its launch in 2017, the Film Industry Conference has been an integral part of FDCP’s support of Filipino filmmaking. Through the conference, we are able to bring knowledgeable and successful figures in the film industry who in turn share their expertise to the public, and help build the filmmaking community in the Philippines. Such knowledge only helps Philippine cinema as it continues to evolve and improve in different areas.”

“We are particularly excited about FIC Online 2020 because, despite the challenges we face in light of a global pandemic, we will nonetheless be able to push through and provide a platform for the conference speakers to share their knowledge Filipino filmmakers and film enthusiasts. The conference, moreover, will hold discussions on topics relevant today, as the Philippine film industry continues to respond, recover, and grow in response to the impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The masterclasses in FIC Online 2020 feature relevant topics today, such as 'Composing With Constraints: Editing During Quarantine.'

Film Industry Conference 2020 is held in partnership with Full Circle Lab, whose mentors will also be leading different sessions during the conference. The conference precedes the three week online film lab which is scheduled to take place from September 15 to 30.
