Interesting and Lesser Known Facts About Mattresses - What You Must Know!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Different sorts of mattresses can be found at the marketplace. Different manufacturers design different types of products. Choosing the right mattress from the most reputed manufacturer is a matter of concern for many buyers. So, how to purchase mattresses? How would you know about different mattresses?

To become the best shopper of beds, you need to know a few crucial facts about mattresses. Those points have been discussed in the following section of this article. Understanding them will help you to find the best mattresses in the marketplace without any issues.

1. Most Popular Type Is the Least Liked

According to a market survey, people opt for innerspring mattresses. The prime reason behind that is this type of mattress is affordable or cheap. Other mattresses like memory foam or latest mattresses can be highly expensive, though they offer more comfort as well as durability. Innerspring mattress becomes worn out after five years of use. When it becomes old, it remains no more comfortable for users. The springs inside may cause noises. They may get uneven and as a result mattress surface turns uneven. So, buyers need to be careful when purchasing this type of mattress in the marketplace.

2. Be Careful of Dust Mites

Mattresses that are not preserved well at the shops can be extremely harmful to your body as they come with thousands of creepy dust mites. After purchasing a mattress from the store, you need to clean it thoroughly. First, you should use a vacuum cleaner to extract all the dust from mattress fabric. Up next, you need to keep it in the sun for 4-5 hours at least for one or two days. It will help killing dust mites that may be there inside the fabrics of your mattress. Not just newly purchased mattresses, same treatment has to be given to mattresses once in every year. It will help retain good hygiene and would help to prevent skin disease or allergic reactions due to the mattress.

3. Flame Proof Mattress

When you read Purple Mattress Reviews, you shall find mention of flameproof material. Previously, beds used to be designed or developed with materials that are easily flammable. However, this is not a typical practice these days, especially if you are buying branded mattresses. In fact, it is illegal to sell mattresses having flammable materials in many countries. For health and safety reasons, you should check mattress well for the sign of flame free materials. If the manufacturer does not come with such feature for their beds, it is better to purchase a mattress from another manufacturer.

4. Risk of Humidity
If you live in areas where humidity is high, the mattress may get unhygienic for you earlier than other places. The humid condition makes mattress moist. As a result, it becomes an ideal place for mites and bacteria to grow. Saving mattress from humidity is essential. You should occasionally keep mattress under sunlight so that insects and bacteria can get killed by the heat of the sun.

UE CFAD Prof Honored as One of FDCP's Film Ambassadors

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Film Development Council of the Philippines named University of the East College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design (UE CFAD) advertising professor and filmmaker Richard Soriano Legaspi as one of the honorees when it recognized recent international film festival winners and other achievers during the second Film Ambassadors' Night held at Sampaguita Gardens in Quezon City last February 9.

FDCP honored Legaspi's short film Pipo, which tells the story of a boy who wants to have a picture of his family taken for a school assignment. Starring Maliksi Morales in the title role, the film also features Lou Veloso and Chanel Latorre, among others. It won the viewer's choice award during the Asian and Middle Eastern Film Night of the fifth Gatffest Film Festival in Kingston, Jamaica last year.

Pipo has been selected to compete in more than 35 international film festivals around the globe so far. It also previously won first prize in the professional section of AnakTV’s Sinebata (children’s films) competition, 8-12 fiction category (based on target audience).
The film pays tribute to manual film cameras and photographers who people often fail to acknowledge for documenting precious moments in their lives. It was produced by Red Room Media Productions through the support of the National Commission for Culture and the ArtsUniversità delle Idee and Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto.

Legaspi is a graduate of Bachelor of Fine Arts, major in Advertising Arts at the then UE College of Fine Arts in Caloocan. He eventually ended up teaching in his alma mater. He is a Gawad CCP awardee in 2010 and 2011, a recipient of the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in 2012 for his screenplay Primera Bella and a Cinemalaya winner and Gawad Urian nominee for his short film Manenaya.

He is also a graduate of Ricky Lee’s 14th scriptwriting workshop, a directing fellow at the Asian Film Academy in Busan, South Korea, and a recipient of the UNESCO-Aschberg Laureate Artists of 2013, a scholarship program that offers residencies to artists worldwide. He was invited last year by the Taoyuan Cultural Department to stay in the heritage village of Sianguang 2nd Village for his socially engaged art projects.

Dubbed as “an evening of celebration, thanksgiving and gathering of award-winning Filipino films and filmmakers,” the Film Ambassadors' Night was first launched last October 2016 to cite those who continue to bring not only prestige to the country but has also raised the level of awareness to the craft and art of filmmaking.
