The Dawn of a New Era: Taiwan Champions the Circular Economy at APCER & Hotspot 2025

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The Asia-Pacific region, a dynamic global manufacturing powerhouse, stands at a critical juncture. For too long, a linear economic model has fueled progress but left an undeniable environmental burden. However, a transformative solution is emerging: the circular economy—a systemic approach that restores and regenerates resources across industries and societies. At the forefront of this pivotal shift is Taiwan, poised to host the Asia-Pacific Circular Economy Roundtable (APCER) & Hotspot 2025 from October 20-23 in Taipei.

A Global Call to Action: Circular Collaboration for Climate Crisis (CC4CC)

Taiwan is not merely hosting an event; it's championing a movement. Through the "Circular Collaboration for Climate Crisis (CC4CC)" initiative, Taiwan invites governments, businesses, academia, and civil society worldwide to unite and take decisive action. The core aim of CC4CC is to forge stronger cross-border, cross-industry, and cross-supply-chain collaborations, ensuring a just and equitable transition in confronting the pressing climate crisis. This gathering in Taipei will be the first time the Circular Economy Hotspot, an annual global event since 2016, comes to the Asia-Pacific region, marking a significant milestone in regional and global circular economy efforts.

The Circular Trilogy: Ideas, Business, and Governance

Under the compelling theme "Leading Circular Collaboration," APCER & Hotspot 2025 will delve into the profound concept of the "Circular Trilogy". This powerful framework seeks to transform "good ideas"—innovative circular strategies—into "good business" through the implementation of "good governance" at corporate, national, and international levels. It offers a clear and actionable blueprint to accelerate circular economy development throughout the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

Taiwan's Vision: From Resource Constraint to Sustainable Innovation

Taiwan's position as a key player in global supply chains has uniquely equipped it to lead this charge. The nation has ingeniously transformed its inherent resource constraints into a powerful catalyst for sustainable innovation. Industries ranging from semiconductors and ICT to textiles and manufacturing are deeply engaged in practical circular solutions, bolstered by a dynamic ecosystem of policymakers, academia, and civil society.

With impressive recycling rates—59% municipal and 85% industrial in 2023—Taiwan officially integrated the circular economy into its national strategy in 2016 and included resource circulation in its net-zero roadmap. As the host of APCER & Hotspot 2025, Taiwan stands ready to amplify circular collaboration for climate solutions across the region and on the global stage.

A Glimpse into the Future: What to Expect

The APCER & Hotspot 2025 promises an immersive and impactful experience. Attendees can expect:

Practical Knowledge: Discover proven circular economy solutions tailored to regional needs, with themed showcases in critical sectors such as electronics, textiles, agri-food, construction, and regional revitalization & communities.

High-tech & Electronics: Taiwan, responsible for over 90% of the world's advanced semiconductors and 80% of laptops (ODM/OEM), showcases integrated supply chains that enable circular product design. Highlights include collaborations on circular products with brands like Dell, Fairphone, and Framework, as well as advancements in closed-loop material cycles for electronics recycling and resource efficiency through industrial symbiosis.

Textiles: Taiwan holds a 70% share in the global market for high-performance functional textiles and boasts extensive recycling and reprocessing technologies. This enables the evolution from "bottle-to-fiber" practices to innovative "textile-to-textile" systems, supported by high-quality recycling and closed-loop systems with supply chain partners.

Construction: As the first Asian nation with an environmental construction certification system (over 7,000 accredited green buildings), Taiwan showcases robust mechanisms for recycling construction, demolition, and industrial surplus materials. Pioneering circular architecture projects address natural disaster challenges and promote resilience.

Agri & Food: Taiwan's agricultural sector actively collaborates with other industries to build a bio-based economy, focusing on high-value utilization of biomass. This includes upcycling agricultural residues like pineapple leaves and banana pseudostems into bio-based materials and combating food waste through digital technology.

Policy Influence: Contribute to a shared platform that will shape regional policies and international standards, featuring high-level forums dedicated to developing national circular roadmaps.

Strategic Networking: Engage in a curated environment designed to facilitate high-quality interactions across sectors and borders, connecting decision-makers, practitioners, and partners throughout the program.

Crossover Collaboration: Foster vital cross-sector and cross-country collaborations to drive tangible real-world impact, spanning governance, financing mechanisms, lifestyle transformation, and global partnerships.

The Program at a Glance

The four-day event will feature a comprehensive program, including site visits on the first two days, followed by a welcome address, plenary forum on the Circular Trilogy, and various parallel sessions. Topics will cover Circular Good Governance, Financing Enablers, Business Transformation, Circular Ecosystems (High-tech & Electronics, Agri & Food, Construction, Energy & Critical Materials, Plastic & Package, Textiles), and Circular Good Governance in areas like Trade & Consumer Behavior, and Digital Technology & Traceability.

Join the Movement!

Organizations are invited to partner, sponsor, exhibit at the

"Circular-Cross" Innovation Expo (October 23-26), or host side events to expand the conversation. This is an unparalleled opportunity to showcase circular solutions, lead the dialogue, and forge partnerships that will define our sustainable future.

The Asia-Pacific Circular Economy Roundtable & Hotspot 2025 is more than an event; it's a testament to a shared vision for a regenerative future, where collaboration triumphs over crisis and innovation paves the way for a truly circular world.
