BIR is a public sector benchmark in Data Privacy Compliance as per NPC
Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui has received a Plaque of Commendation from the National Privacy Commission (NPC) in recognition of the agency's unwavering commitment to safeguarding personal data and aligning its operations with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173).
This prestigious award—the first of its kind to be conferred by the NPC to a government agency—acknowledges the BIR’s pioneering efforts in integrating data privacy across its tax collection and administrative systems. It sets a benchmark for public sector compliance and reinforces the Bureau’s role as a model of responsible and transparent governance.
The commendation also highlights the BIR's selection as a finalist for the Seal of Registration Award in the recently concluded Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) Awards, further cementing its reputation for ethical data management and operational excellence.
"The BIR has received the first award given by the National Privacy Commission for Data Privacy Compliance in the Public Sector. I am proud to say that the BIR is a pioneer government agency that champions data privacy. We commit to not only maintaining, but also improving, our data privacy standards. Your data is safe with us." Commissioner Lumagui stated.
The BIR continues to advance its data privacy initiatives beyond legal compliance, anchoring its programs on transparency, accountability, and ethical handling of taxpayer information. This latest recognition affirms the Bureau's ongoing efforts to foster public trust in tax administration and protect the rights of data subjects under its jurisdiction.
