Hockey news and predictions for today

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Hockey is a seasonal game. In summer, there is a complete lull in this sport. There are not even any friendly matches. At the same time, different changes take place in the squads of the clubs. Despite the fact that there is practically no forecast for the summer period, hockey life has not come to a complete standstill due to the lack of games. There is a lot of information online every day regarding the situation in the clubs and their training for the season.

One of the biggest announcements in the world's most popular hockey league (NHL), was the move of David Savard. He is the star of the current Stanley Cup holders. And the interest in such a transfer is because the hockey player is moving to the line-up of the last championship finalist, against whom Savard played.

David Savard signed a contract with the Montreal Canadiens and is set to get a cup with them

David Savard, who played for the Tampa Bay Lightning last season, ruined the plans of the Montreal Canadiens for winning the Stanley Cup. Now he has joined the ranks of the final opponents and intends to win the tournament.

The 30-year-old defenceman has agreed to a four-year, $14 million contract (average annual salary is $3.5 million) with Montreal. He had five assists in 20 Stanley Cup playoff games last season for Tampa and helped the Lightning win their league title for the second year in a row.

"We will try to bring the trophy back to Montreal. That's the plan," Savard said. "I'd like to go back to Lac-Beauport with the trophy."

The Canadiens last won an NHL championship in 1993. They finished the 2020/21 regular season in fourth place in the seven-team US North Division. This gave the team the right to qualify for the play-offs.

"Montreal" won a hard-fought game against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1/8 finals. The maximum number of games were played. There were seven meetings in the series, and in the last match the team from Montreal celebrated a 3-1 victory in the Canadian derby. The final score in the series was 4-3.

The Canadiens got a 4-0 series win over Winnipeg, and then won the semifinals with a score of 4-2 and beat Vegas.

After signing the new contract, David Savard in an interview said the following:

"Montreal is a different team. It's different from Tampa, but a little. I liked how the Canadiens played against us in the final. They have some alums who have already won the Cup (Puckett with the Lightning, defenceman Joel Edmundson and goalie Jake Allen with the St. Louis Blues). I'll try to make the team even better by being in the arena. We all plan to go back to the finals and bring the Stanley Cup to Quebec."

Savard should help fill gaps in the defense during Shea Weber's absence. The Canadiens captain will not play this season due to multiple injuries, and his NHL career could be over. This was announced by team general manager Marc Bergevin on July 22. Weber played in all 22 playoff round games last season.

"I know what I need to do," said Savard. "I've been doing this for a few years now, and I'm not going to give up. The team also knows what I can bring to them. I am sticking to the same formula."

This season, Savard, a native of Saint-Hyacinthe, based in Quebec, returns to his homeland. He has 166 points (41 goals, 125 assists) in 611 regular season games with Columbus and Tampa Bay and 16 points (1 goal, 15 assists) in 57 playoff games.

"I'm looking forward to putting on my skates and playing my first game at the Bell Center," he said. "It's a pleasure to be closer to my family and friends."

Conclusion

Towards the end of summer, friendly hockey matches are already starting to appear. This shows that the regular seasons are coming up in most of the championships. Especially interesting is how things will go in the USA. It is difficult to predict something.

Tampa Bay holds the NHL leadership for the second year. One of the strongest defencemen in the team moved to the club, which finished the season competing for the title with the Lightning. Will that affect the outcome, or will some other team be able to enter the championship race in the upcoming season? It's impossible to predict it now.

Perhaps that's why the National Hockey League is so interesting to spectators and has many fans even outside America. The real strength of the teams will only be known after they play their first games.

To stay up-to-date with the NHL and other championships, it's worth using Scores 24. There is always the latest and most accurate information about the line-up, form, and standings of the teams.
