Wazzup Pilipinas!

Got a birthday coming up and no money to spend? Well, don’t worry because your compadres at Jose Cuervo are here to make sure that even on a tight budget, you can still make the most out of your name day.

One of the best qualities of Mexican culture and cuisine is its ability to make the most of everything. And no other dish defines the can-do spirit of Mexican culture than Puerco Pibil, a simple, slow roasted pork dish. Start off your birthday right with this incredible recipe featuring Jose Cuervo Especial Silver.

Puerco Pibil w/ Jose Cuervo Especial Reposado:

3 tablespoons achiote powder
1 teaspoon cumin powder
2 tablespoons black pepper ground
Pinch of white clover powder
4 tablespoons allspice
2 habanero peppers, minced
½ cup orange juice
½ cup white vinegar
8 cloves of garlic, minced
2 tablespoons salt
5 lemons
2 shots Jose Cuervo Especial Silver
5 lbs kasim (pork butt)
Banana leaves (optional)

  • Combine achiote powder, cumin, cloves, allspice and peppercorn into a powder.
  • Mince habanero peppers. Keep seeds in accordance to personal spice level. The more seeds, the spicier!
  • Add spice mix, vinegar, orange juice, salt, and garlic in a blender on high for 45 seconds.
  • Add Jose Cuervo Especial Reposado and Tequila into the mix and blend for an additional 30-60 seconds. Set mix aside.
  • Cut pork into 2 inch cubes and place into a large ziplock bag and pour mix over the pork. Be sure to mix the bag in order to evenly spread the mix. Set aside and refrigerate for 4 hours.

  • Cover a banking pan with banana leaves or aluminium foil.
  • Pour pork and mix into the pan.
  • Cover with more banana leaves and then cover with foil. Wrap the foil around the pan to ensure that steam does not escape.
  • Over bake at 325° F for 4 hours.
  • And just like that, you’ve got your birthday dinner. Serve over a hot bed of rice and this incredible margarita mix featuring Jose Cuervo Especial Sliver.

Classic Jose Cuervo Margarita:

1 oz. Jose Cuervo Especial Silver
3 oz. Jose Cuervo Lime Margarita Mix

1 wedge of lime

  • Chill a glass for an hour and rub the rim of the glass with half a lime.
  • Dip rim into salt for coating.
  • Combine Jose Cuervo Especial Silver and Jose Cuervo Lime Margarita Mix into a shaker with ice. Shake well.
  • Strain into a glass. Garnish with lime wedge and serve.
  • With a gathering of your nearest and dearest and a trusty bottle of Jose Cuervo by your side, it doesn’t matter how much or how little you have. You’re always in for a good time!
