PhotoWorld Asia 2013 : Day 1

PhotoWorld Asia 2013 is now in full swing in both venues at the Glorietta for the trade show and at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati for the photographers’ conference.

On the first day of convention, fine art photographer and first speaker Edwin Loyola gave a talk on Creative iPhone Photography. Edwin showed delegates his fine art photos, but more than that, he also revealed how those images were created with a good photo via iPhone for starters, and then post-processing them in Photoshop to enhance contrast and brightness.

Never a fan of studio lights, Edwin shoots only in ambient light. In his presentation he revealed how those shots were set up, allowing delegates a peek into how a creative thinks and captures artistic images. In his talk, Edwin drove home the point that smartphones now can indeed capture really good photographs.

The second speaker, cosplay photographer Jay Tablante, delivered an in-depth presentation on Cosplay Photography. Jay revealed a few startling facts at the start of his talk: Cosplay did not start in Japan, it started in the US during the 1st World Science Fiction Convention (WorldCon) in 1939 with Forrest J. Ackerman as the first cosplayer.

The word “Cosplay” was coined in the 1984 W2orldCon in Los Angeles by writer Nov Takahashi. One who’s never to bore his audience, Jay made a lively presentation, wowing the audience with his creative images.

Top professional wedding photographer Jomel Gregorio makes a point during his talk. “Get inspiration by traveling, admiring beautiful art or movie, or do an engaging hobby when you’re feeling dry with your photography,” Jomel said.

Jomel addresses delegates on Day 1 of PhotoWorld Asia 2013. He delivered a lecture on how to start a wedding photography business.
