SSS branches at 100% capacity to address influx of members, claimants

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The Social Security System (SSS) said all its 281 branches nationwide under Alert Level 1 will be in 100% operations to address the expected influx of transacting members, particularly in certain SSS branches in the National Capital Region (NCR).

SS said all transacting members were accommodated by the branches, particularly those some 100 members who were reported to have camped outside the SSS Diliman Branch along East Avenue in Quezon City.

SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Aurora Ignacio said the state fund agency will continue to monitor the number of members personally transacting in SSS branches. “We will evaluate the situation to determine if there is a need to further extend service hours and hold special operations on Saturdays,” she added.

“With the reduction in Covid-19 alert levels, we are now in 100% operational capacity since all our employees are tasked to their offices,” Ignacio explained.

As this developed, SSS emphasizes its call for members, claimants, and the transacting public to use the agency’s online facilities such as My.SSS and SSS Mobile App for their various transactions with the state pension fund.

“We continue to recognize the health, safety and security concerns of our members even if the Covid-19 alert levels have been reduced. We urge them to make full use of the agency’s online facilities, especially the My.SSS portal. There are more than 30 member services available on My.SSS. They can even access some of these services on the SSS Mobile App,” Ignacio said.
The SSS president explained that there is priority given to online branch appointment holders. Members may use the appointment system in My.SSS to indicate the preferred date and time that they want to be accommodated in their chosen SSS branch. The branches have been tasked to set up special lanes for those holding online appointments.

SSS has been accepting online submissions for several transactions through My.SSS since 2011. My.SSS is the pension fund’s online service portal which can be found on the SSS website (www.sss.gov.ph).

The “File Anywhere” policy of the state pension fund remains in effect. This allows SSS members to transact at the nearest branch of their choice. Currently, there are 58 branches in NCR, about 135 branches in Luzon, 44 branches in Visayas, and 44 branches in Mindanao.

SSS also explained that the agency has digitalized all processing of claim and loan applications in all its 281 branches nationwide, not just in the SSS Diliman branch.

Ignacio, however, pointed out that processing of SSS transactions is based on the documents submitted by transacting members.

“I urge the members to make sure to present all required documents to speed up the processing time. The full list of requirements for SSS transactions may be found in www.sss.gov.phhttps://www.facebook.com/SSSPh.

“We want to assure our members that we are continuously finding ways to improve our processes to better serve our members,” Ignacio concluded.

Maritime projects, initiatives support sea travel full passenger capacity under Alert Level 1

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

With completed projects and ongoing initiatives in the maritime sector, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is ready to support and address the 100% passenger capacity for sea travel as parts of the country are placed under Alert Level 1 effective on 01 March 2022, Transportation Secretary Art Tugade said.
According to Secretary Tugade, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has completed port development projects nationwide, while the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) are continuing with initiatives to boost maritime operations.

“Mr. President, converting from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 1, masasabi ko ‘ho sa mga nagawa na at gagawin pa namin handa na ‘ho ang Department of Transportation. We support the move to lower the alert level following the guidance and mandates of the IATF,” Secretary Tugade said during President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s Talk to the People on Monday.

Secretary Tugade said 13 completed port projects are ready for inauguration under Alert Level 1 to accommodate seaport passengers.

Some of the ports ready for inauguration are the Ports of Currimao in Ilocos Norte; Bulan in Sorsogon; Legazpi and Tabaco in Albay; Basiao in Capiz; Banago in Negros Occidental; Baybay and Palompon in Leyte; Ozamiz in Misamis Occidental; Sultan Naga Dimaporo in Lanao del Norte; Mati in Davao Oriential; and Dapitan and Sindangan in Zamboanga del Norte.

He added that two more priority projects are for completion this March: The Port of Batangas' new Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) will accommodate 3,616 passengers, while the Calapan Port's new PTB will have a 3,500-passenger capacity.

“Ang mga terminal na itinatayo natin, ang capacity hindi na sa one hundred one hundred, thousand thousand na. Merong 3,000, merong 4,000,” Secretary Tugade said.

Aside from addressing the increase in capacity, Secretary Tugade said the PPA and MARINA are also solving port operations concerns for a seamless movement of passengers and cargo, including those in the Port of Matnog.

“Ang queueing diyan ng mga buses, nagtatagal ‘ho iyan from 16 hours to two days, ngayon po because of the system that we have organized in the Maritime Sector kasama ang PPA, PCG, MARINA, LGU, DILG, ngayon ‘ho iyong queueing time is three to five hours na lang,” Secretary Tugade explained.

To further manage the port arrival of vessels, the MARINA will be issuing around 20 additional travel permits for roll-on/roll-off vessels to cater to the growing number of sea passengers under thr more relaxed Alert Level 1.

Meanwhile, Secretary Tugade said the arrival of first of two 97-meter long Multi-Role Response Vessels (MRRVs) from Japan will also bolster maritime patrols in the country’s borders.

According to Secretary Tugade, as an additional maritime asset, the PCG-acquired BRP Teresa Magbanua can conduct patrols for three weeks in the West Philippine Sea, in the Benham Rise, and in the southern part of Mindanao. The second PCG MRRV is set to arrive in May 2022.

The PCG workforce likewise saw a significant increase with the addition of at least 22,000 Coast Guard personnel and an additional 33,000 Auxiliary members, Secretary Tugade reported.

Part of PCG and PCGA's personnel will be realigned for the heightened visibility and patrolling at various transport hubs nationwide, Secretary Tugade said.

President Duterte lauds Briones for advancing PH education reforms

Wazzup Pilipinas?!

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte lauded Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones for her ‘splendid work’ in advancing reforms in the basic education system of the country.

Alam ko 'yung fervor mo sa edukasyon ng mga batang Pilipino and I have always relied on your wisdom to do what is next, kung anong gagawin. And so far, I said, that is splendid work done by you to further the cause of education,” President Duterte said during the “Talk To The People” briefing on February 29.

Pres. Duterte also acknowledged the Education Chief’s commitment to advance the education sector in the country and her genuine concern for Filipino learners.

“Hindi talaga rin ako nagkamali sa pagkuha sa’yo. I knew that you would be of great help – this is not to flatter you – to the education of the Filipino young people. And again, I thank you also for your dedication,” he added.

Secretary Briones expressed gratitude to the President for trusting her knowledge and expertise and supporting her decisions and vision for the Department.

“We are grateful to President Duterte for recognizing our efforts and work in DepEd. Your constant affirmations help us boost the morale of the whole Department from our top officials to our regional directors, school heads, and teachers on the ground,” she said.

During the briefing, Sec. Briones shared that one of her administration’s major contributions is strengthening regional offices by giving them the authority to decide based on their analysis of the actual situation and solve specific problems in their units.

Isang malaking contribution ‘yan, the strengthening of the regional units because we have to decentralize dahil napakalaki ng Department of Education. The superintendents are empowered. That is our policy, and I think it’s a major contribution of the department that we have developed very strong regional units,” Briones noted.

Moreover, DepEd hopes to continue the blended learning approach and implement protocols for face-to-face classes as NCR and 38 other areas are put under the Alert Level 1 starting on March 1.

“This Friday, mag-usap ang Department of Health at saka ang DepEd para pag-usapan kung alin ang mga protocols na puwedeng i-relax kasi right now6,145 ang nag-qualify. Pero sa tingin namin, baka dadami pa ‘yan kasi Level 1 na tayo. Wala na tayong Level 3,” Briones said.

“Itong Alert Level 1, will be aligned to ‘yung sinasabi nating impending return to normalcy sa ating ekonomiya, sa ating society, dahil luluwag din ang mga requirements natin para sa edukasyon,” Sec. Briones added.

FDCP’s Film Ambassadors’ Night Returns to Physical Attendance; New Film Ambassadors Grace the Newly Reopened MET

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

After holding the Film Ambassadors’ Night virtually last 2021 because of the pandemic, the celebration finally returned as an in-person event at the newly renovated cultural treasure, the majestic Metropolitan Theater, last Sunday, February 27. Filmmakers, performers, artists, film workers, members of the media, and supportive friends and family celebrated a night of cultural pride at the 6th edition of the Film Ambassadors’ Night, hosted by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).

From left to right: Representatives of Feature Film Honoree, Midnight in a Perfect World, Glaiza de Castro, Betti Lapus, Dodo Dayao, Patti Lapus, Armi Cacanindin

The 77 new Film Ambassadors were feted on stage in recognition of their success for connecting Filipino talents to the world in showcasing quality and worthwhile films in the global cinema scene.

FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza Diño welcomed guests remarking, “It is truly incredible to be able to celebrate in hybrid and in person for the first time in the last two years. I can’t tell you how amazing it is to finally meet all of you personally and hear your stories of challenges, of coping, and of creating amazing stories out of all kinds of inspiration."

There were 25 honorees for the Short Film category, 9 for documentaries, 2 creative awards, 7 actors, 3 directors, 9 feature films, and 2 special citations were awarded and given their well-deserved moment.

Among the notable celebrities and distinguished names in the industry who graced the event were Glaiza de Castro, Janine Gutierrez, Snooky Serna, Director Khavn de la Cruz and Director Joel Lamangan.

Dito at Doon star Janine Gutierrez shared, “Never po kasi kami naka-attend ng actual film festivals for Dito at Doon, so this is actually the first time that there’s a physical event na mapupuntahan ko with regards sa mga nagawa kong pelikula – sobrang excited po ako.”

In 2021, the country received 13 hard-earned spots at A-List Festivals which are already a recognition itself. Some of the most prestigious in the global festivals are Toronto International Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, Locarno Film Festival, and Venice International Film Festival, where Filipino films won in various categories. To give merit to these victories, Gensan Punch by Brilante Mendoza, Whether The Weather Is Fine (Kun Maupay Man It Panahon) by Carlo Francisco Manatad, and Mr. John Arcilla were all awarded as A-Lister Film Ambassadors.

Mendoza and Manatad weren’t able to be present physically but were able to send their acceptance videos to share the stories of their big wins, while Arcilla graced the event and received his award on stage.

The FDCP also conferred the Gabay ng Industriya Award to individuals who have made outstanding accomplishments during their long careers, becoming respected pillars of the Philippine film industry. Tribute videos were presented for each of the Haligi ng Industriya and Ilaw ng Industriya Awardees which inspired heartfelt messages from friends from the industry and beloved family.

Councilor Jana Ejercito shared his father Mr. Jesse Ejercito’s message of thanks to the audience for his Haligi ng Industriya Award. Ms. Rosa Rosal’s daughter, actress Toni Rose Gayda and grandnephew, news anchor William Thio shared the stage to receive the Ilaw ng Industriya Award for Ms. Rosal.

The highest honor granted by the FDCP for exceptional films or individuals that blazed new trails in various fields of cinema is the Camera Obscura Excellence Award which was bestowed on Mr. John Arcilla.  His film On the Job: The Missing 8 (OTJ) was also awarded the Camera Obscura which was received by producer Dondon Monteverde who also gave a few words about their OTJ journey and shared the recognition and congratulations to their director, Erik Matti and to their world-class actors.

Monteverde said in his speech, “Mahaba talaga ang naging journey ng project na ito. Masayang masaya kami sa mga naabot namin, being acknowledged at prestigious festivals like Venice is already a big honor for us. Dahil dito, we want to continue doing content like this. As I always tell my peers: continue dreaming, never give up, dahil world-class talaga ang mga Pilipino.”

Mr. John Arcilla was physically present to personally receive his Camera Obscura Award which he dedicated to his family, colleagues in the project, mentors from the industry, and those who brought him to winning his Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the prestigious Venice Film Festival

“An actor is a mirror of everything that is happening within and outside him. An actor’s work is a reflection of everything that surrounds him. A film should entertain and liberate minds. Nawa po ay patuloy tayong gumawa ng mga pelikula na lalong magpapakilala sa makulay na kultura at kasaysayan ng Pilipinas sa mundo, upang makita nila iyong sinasabi ko na hindi tayo naiiba sa kanila,” Arcilla said as he expressed his gratitude to the industry.

Capping the night is FDCP Chairperson Diño’s spiel emphasizing that the organization draws inspiration from its filmmaker-honorees.  “Thank you for the films that form our cinematic culture. May the success of all the Film Ambassadors in the last five years and up until today crystallize our place in world cinema.”

This year’s Film Ambassadors’ Night highlighted the dedication of these filmmakers for overcoming a challenging year of creating films because of the global health issue. The theme “Beyond Limits” magnifies that despite the restrictions that caused setbacks, these filmmakers persevered and were still able to show the world what Philippine cinema is all about.

Actress and host, Kakki Teodoro brought glitter to the show as the master of the ceremonies. Performances from the Dance Royalties, Pogi Boys, and the youngest member of the Philippine Opera Company, 13-year-old Alexa Isobel Kaufman, afforded the socially-distanced live audience quite an entertaining evening.

This 6th Film Ambassadors’ Night was made possible through a partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). In his short video of support, NCCA Chairperson Arsenio “Nick” Lizaso sent his warmest felicitations to the FDCP and all who contribute to the nation’s art and culture. FDCP also partnered with CMB Film Services for their assistance with technical facilities and crew for the grand celebration. The event was directed by singer-songwriter and film and event director Ice Seguerra.

The 6th Film Ambassadors’ Night will have its telecast exclusively via the FDCP Channel on March 12, 2022, Saturday, at 8PM. Stay tuned to the social media pages of the Film Development Council of the Philippines for access and instructions.

A Five-Tip Guide to Summer Ready #OOTDs Anytime, Anywhere

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

·        Philips Domestic Appliances shares five tips on building the perfect summer wardrobe, as well as innovative garment solutions to keep your clothes clean and fresh.

The Philippines is a tropical country characterized by relatively high temperature and humidity. While most places across the archipelago enjoy warm weather almost all year, the heat and humidity always seem to intensify in the summer months.

As the country braces for another sweltering summer, Philips Domestic Appliances introduces innovative solutions designed to help people feel better, live healthier, and take care of what matters most to them. With temperatures set to soar, here are five tips to achieving the perfect summer #OOTDs anytime, anywhere:

1.      Embrace a “natural” look

When the heat is on, breathability is key when it comes to your clothes. Natural fibers such as cotton, rayon, and linen help draw heat away from the body – keeping you comfy when summer starts to get into full swing.

2.      Stick to light colors

Light colored clothes reflect light and heat. Wearing outfits built on light and neutral tones can help provide extra relief in the warmer months.

3.      Keep it loose

Clingy, sweaty clothes in the summer heat is not advisable. Loose-fitting clothing can go a long way towards helping you stay cool. Experiment with flowy dresses, cropped pants, loose shirts, oversized blouses and skirts with room to breathe.

4.      Step up your athleisure

Technical fabrics used in workout gear are usually moisture-wicking, but most of them can be pretty tight and form-fitting, which isn’t always great for summer. If athleisure is your style, swap out the tights for bike shorts and sweatshirts for loose-fitting tanks and crop tops.

5.      Minimize the accessories

While accessorizing can be one of the easiest ways to make your style stand out, a lot of dangling accessories like necklaces and bangles can stick to your skin in the heat. When it comes to accessories in the summer, go for one statement piece that stands out, like hoop earrings.

A powerful garment care solution in the palm of your hand

Whatever the outfit, garment steamers are a convenient way to keep your clothes fresh and wrinkle-free. Research has shown that a steamer can help rid clothes and accessories from common household germs, bacteria[1], as well as flu viruses when exposed to high heat above 75° C (167° F)[2].

For easy, everyday de-wrinkling, the Philips Easy Touch Stand Steamer is designed to be compact yet powerful. This essential steaming solution is great for quick de-wrinkling every day.  It is 20% more powerful compared to previous models. Its 1.4L detachable water tank comes with an 80% larger filling hole[3] for easier refilling and cleaning. With 35g/min of powerful continuous steam concentrated through the nozzles, de-wrinkling any garment becomes easier and more efficient thanks to a steam plate made 40% larger.

With comfort, convenience, and cleanliness in mind, Philips Handheld Steamer 3000 Series is an ideal companion to ensure fresh outfits anytime and anywhere. Designed to be light and foldable, the Philips Handheld Steamer 3000 Series delivers 1000W of power that generates 20g/min of steam and is ready to use in as little as 30 seconds.  The Philips handheld steamer 3000 Series comes with a pouch, useful for when you travel or just to easily store it at home.

It features an easily detachable 100ml water tank to steam up to a full outfit without refilling - removing 99.9% of bacteria[4] and odors. Safe for use even on delicate fabrics like silk, the steam plate of the Philips Handheld Steamer 3000 Series is safe for use on any kind of clothing with no risk of burning.

The Philips Easy Touch Stand Steamer is available on Lazada and the Philips Handheld Steamer 3000 is available Lazada and Shopee. Follow us on our Facebook (Philips Home Living) and Instagram Pages (@PhilipshomelivingPh).

SSS receives Silver Trailblazer Award for Performance Governance System (PGS)

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The Social Security System (SSS) received the Silver Trailblazer Award after passing the 1st stage of the Performance Governance System (PGS) during the virtual revalida on November 23, 2021.

SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Aurora C. Ignacio presented the basic elements of the Initiation stage: strategy design that SSS has adopted for its PGS transformation journey. The strategy design includes SSS position statement and the corresponding objectives, and impact indicators that will gear SSS towards the attainment of its vision.

“The PGS award conferred to SSS is a significant milestone in our continuous effort to provide world-class quality service to our members and stakeholders which is at par with global standards. It is also a testament of the commitment of the men and women of SSS who continue to strive for the excellent performance of each employee in accordance with SSS' mandate and corporate vision," Ignacio said.

The PGS is a framework for transformation that empowers institutions to deliver breakthrough results. It has four stages consisting of Initiation, Compliance, Proficiency, and Institutionalization.

SSS as a government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) needs to align the execution of its mandates with the principles of transparency and accountability as stipulated under Republic Act No. 10149 known as the GOCC Governance Act of 2011. This is in tune with the current administration’s thrust and AmBisyon 2040: Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag na Buhay.

With the help of PGS, SSS carried out these principles by installing an effective planning framework and performance monitoring system, as well as, by designing and developing various channels to serve its members and engaging its stakeholders in public governance.

Currently, SSS passed the Initiation stage of the four-stage pathway designed to create, execute, and sustain effective transformation strategies. The Silver Trailblazer award means SSS has exceeded the expectations in its compliance with the required basic elements of the Initiation stage.

The PGS is exclusively administered by the Institute for Solidarity in Asia, a non-government organization, whose main advocacy is good governance practices among government agencies and local government units for a better Philippines.

Health aides at home offer basic care to sick, elderly, or disabled people. They can be a part of a multidisciplinary team or work independently. A home care aide can provide a range of services from personal home health care to nursing and more. The idea is to give the patient sores, serve meals, transport them and take their vitals without incurring billing costs. Study and review HHA questions and answers. You'll be able to take the state exam faster, and it will help you with the certification process.

Home health aide certificate programs include everything from basic medical care through patient care, to private duty and respite care, to chronic care management. The job of an HHA is to provide treatment and care for those in need, at home or in the hospital. Home health aides will assist the patient in their day-to-day activities, including taking vital signs, giving medications, and preparing meals. They may perform light housekeeping duties such as laundry and bathing.

Most HHA programs are 60 hours long and may also require clinical experience or observation. The coursework covers the aging process, anatomy and physiology, skin care management, infection prevention, bloodborne pathogen prevention, and universal precautions. Coursework may also include CPR for the healthcare professional and lifesaving courses like Basic Life Support Course Ontario.

There's no need for any education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent to become a licensed home health aide, but you must complete a training program. Training programs can be as short as two weeks, but most states require three to four months of training. Remember that the standards for HHA certification may differ from one state to another. Please ensure that you know the qualifications for your state before beginning the application process.

The cost of a home health aide certification program is usually between $300 and $650. You can choose from online programs, weekend or evening classes, or in-person courses. Online courses are usually more economical than weekend or evening classes because they require fewer contact hours with instructors and other students on a physical campus.

To become licensed, you must pass a certification exam. The exam for a home health aide is in two parts. The first part is the written exam, which tests your basic medical and personal care tasks. The second part is the skills exam, which tests your ability to perform a range of tasks. Most states require you to pass both parts of a certification exam before getting a license.

Applicants must pass the test with a 70 or 80% score, based on the state they're trying to obtain certification for. You must retake the home health aide test if you fail any section. The certification is valid for three years, and you can take it up to three times if you fail each attempt.

After passing the exams, home health aides must contact a register to record their certification. They can use this information to apply for jobs at a local health agency or hospital. Home health aides are in high demand because of the aging population and because there are far more people with chronic diseases who need care at home or help with day-to-day tasks. They're typically employed by either a community agency or an individual client's family.

In the United States, a home health aide earns an average of $13.83 per hour, roughly $27,000 per year. Typically, a home health aide will work an average of 40 hours per week during normal business hours and may also be expected to work overtime or on-call shifts. Private duty nursing aides and certified nurse assistants may qualify for this position.

If you're considering becoming a home health aide for your reasons, keep in mind that it's an honest and rewarding career. Home health aides contribute to people's lives, whether they need help with medical care or emotional support from someone who understands them.
