Spirit of the Glass 2: The Haunted To Be Shown on November 1

Direk Jose Javier Reyes calls it a "scream fest" because there will be two Pinoy horror movies showing starting on All Saint's Day November 1, of which his movie, Spirit of the Glass 2: The Haunted, top-billed by Christine Reyes, is one of them.

People would realize that Kim Chiu, leading the cast of The Ghost Bride, and directed by Chito Rono, would obviously compete with the audience for the first day of November, but Direk Jose Javier Reyes, both writer and director of the movie, prefers that everyone should support both films. How about you? Would you watch both films or prefer to choose just one? Or probably you would like to watch the second one on the next week after since I'm not so sure many would want to spend their day stuck inside the movie houses.

Spirit of the Glass 2: The Haunted is not a continuation of the previous movie starred by the likes of Rica Peralejo, Marvin Agustin, Drew Arellano, Paolo Contis, Alessandra De Rossi and Dingdong Dantes, but rather a new movie by itself with new casts and story. Surprisingly, this will be former Binibining Pilipinas-Universe 2016 Maxine Medina's first appearance in a movie. You'll know that Pia Wurtzbach has already announced her participation in a Vice Ganda and Daniel Padilla comedy, so it seems Maxine will be seen first as Pia's movie will be part of the Metro manila Film Festival (MMFF) showing on December 25.

The other stars in the movie are Daniel Matsunaga, Ashley Ortega, Enrico Cuenca, Benjamin Alves, Dominic Roque, Benjamin Alves, Aaron Villaflor, Terry Malvar and Janine Guttierez, all believe in spirits and ghosts except for Enrico who is more a realist believing he needs to see before he believes.

It is very evident that many people want to be scared or frightened to be entertained, but I still think that Pinoy movies are more into the "gulat" factor rather than the horrible gory scenes that could only be effective if the special effects and prosthetics are excellently believable. But if we are going to base the technology available to the former movie, we would definitely get a significant improvement for this new movie since the first one was done several years ago.

The movie is about a group of fashionista friends of which the ladies belong to the "InstaGlam" group composed of social media savvy people who are very active in social media being part of their popularity as "celebrities." They attempt to have some offline fun by playing the Ouija board or what is more known to us as the Spirit of the Glass board. They summon a trio of vengeful spirits which triggers a succession of disturbing supernatural events in relation to a crime committed 50 years ago.

Direk Joey revealed that he had the "friends" attend a workshop to make them feel more close thus making them believable on-screen. Apparently, the bonding of the group became more intimate than he expected. They ended up being the most "makulit" set of actors but none of them had a diva moment nor made life difficult for the director and the staff.

Some scenes had the actors surprised for they did not know that chairs and other props will be flying in and out so that brought out authentic screams especially from Maxine who was really "matatakutin" in real life.

The blogcon was held on October 12 at Limbaga 77 Café located at Tomas Morato in Quezon City and attended by most of the cast. The novie is produced under Octoarts Films in association with T-Rex Entertainment.

Burn Soriano Feels More Motivated Under the Tutelage of New Trainer

It was a bitter pill to swallow for a dedicated cage competitor like Burn “The Hitman” Soriano when he yielded to Malaysian sensation Saiful “The Vampire” Merican nearly ten months ago.
Soriano suffered a first-round technical knockout loss to Merican at ONE: THRONE OF TIGERS in the Malaysian’s hometown of Kuala Lumpur this past February, failing to accomplish a follow-up victory to his scintillating 15-second knockout of Mario Satya Wirawan in August 2016.
Although the thrilling bantamweight bout against Merican put fans at the iconic Stadium Negara on the edge of their seats, Soriano was left disappointed with the outcome of the match.
“I believe that I could have done better in that match with Saiful Merican. I was prepared to go full three rounds, but I came up short. I just realized that there was something missing,” Soriano recalled.
The stoppage loss to Merican forced Soriano to reassess on how he handles his training camp when he prepares for an upcoming bout.
During his time of contemplation, Soriano found a much-needed help in George Castro, who is known as the man behind the renowned Alliance MMA’s strength and conditioning program.
George Castro recently moved all the way from Tucson, Arizona, hundreds of miles across the Pacific to the tropical city of Manila to help ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera set up the first Alliance MMA branch in the Philippines.
Aside from training Vera, Castro has also worked extensively with several veterans of the sport, including Dominick Cruz, Ross Pearson, Jeremy Stephens and Chris Leben.
“Right now, I have a tremendous support system in my training, especially with the help of my coach George Castro. He knows how to bring out the best in me. With him in my corner, it is always exciting to prepare for a bout,” Soriano said of Castro.
The partnership between Soriano and Castro will be tested for the very first time as the Filipino combatant returns to action on 3 November to meet unbeaten Chinese prospect “Rock Man” Chen Lei.
The two standouts are set to face each other on the undercard of ONE: HERO’S DREAM, which takes place at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.
Soriano sees his upcoming three-round bantamweight encounter with Chen as an opportunity to bring back the glimmer of his professional career.
“I want to win so bad. I have dreams and aspirations as a competitor. In order to turn those into a reality, I have to win first. This is the first step,” he stated.
Although his professional record stands at 3-3, Soriano has become one of the most exciting mixed martial artists in ONE Championship.
None of his matches, regardless of sweet victory or disappointing defeat, have ever gone to the three judges’ scorecards.
For Soriano, it is crucial to be an entertainer inside the cage and to put on a good show for fans all across the globe.
Quite simply, the 31-year-old native of Ilocos Sur, Philippines wants spectators to feel like they have gotten their money’s worth.
“It is very important for me to be entertaining. I take the risks. I want the crowd and fans to get what they want, which is an exciting fight,” he explained.
“I just enjoy what I am doing. I am passionate about it. Everyone should go out and prove something to themselves and not to anyone or anybody else,” Soriano added.
With the desire to reinsert his name into the winner’s column, Soriano is confident that his support system has geared him up splendidly for his marquee match-up with Chen at ONE: HERO’S DREAM.
“My team is outstanding. I have the best coach in my corner. I also train with the most talented athletes in the region. With that said, I’m motivated and oozing with confidence coming into this bout because I have them behind me,” he ended.

SUMMARY OF SITES
Imahinasyon as a monologue was written as a personal piece dealing with the conscious mind and how it speaks of and with itself, arguing and agreeing with itself all at the same time, happening all in a day. And within this day is the simultaneous representation of the mundane day-to-day routine of life, and the deeper subconscious that continually seeks authentication by intermittently making its presence felt.

While there is no traditional narrative in the text, the existence of human layers are woven into the site. As a whole, Imahinasyon may be best described
as an experimental moving installation.

Handuraw-an. "Kwentong Labi" is an art installation that utilizes mixed media such as film, performance and music. It is a journey into the subconscious of a woman battling with her inner conflicts and grief. This Handuraw-an site narrates two monologues of a man and a woman; both reminiscent of their experiences in love, be it victory or defeat.

Pangarap. In their adult life, three childhood friends meet again and reveal each other’s journey towards achieving
their dream.

Ilusyon. A devised performance that critques the current “Father of our nation” and his “sons".

Majika Realistika. A satirical performance that critiques how Filipinos are lead like lamb by a so-called “shepherd” on television. Furthermore, it challenges the audience to do something about women’s rights.

Hiraya. HonesTea Shop provides a safe haven for those people who are currently suffering from depression. The shop aims to instill into its customers that in this challenging life you are not alone.

Bangungot is a 12-minute travelogue performance inspired by the story of slain transwoman Jennifer Laude.

Fictionalized by the U.P. Repertory Company, it becomes a story of two siblings abused by a domineering patriarch that eventually led to their escape into a more hellish sphere of the prostitution ring, and would lead one of them into the hands of another abusive man.

Panaginip. Why are there people who don’t want to wake up from their dream? Is it because of the happiness that it brings? All that you want is given? Is it the same with Elsa so that she can feel happy or she just wants to look back in the past and stay there forever?he personal experiences and news about Oplan Tokhang.

Majika Realistika. A satirical performance that critiques how Filipinos are lead like lamb by a so-called “shepherd” on television. Furthermore, it challenges the audience to do something about women’s rights.

This production will be in partnership with collaborating theatre companies, organizations, community groups and
freelance artists from different backgrounds; each with a designated sub-theme discussing a degree and/or state
experienced under the theme Dream Sequences. There will be eight (8) sites dubbed and sub-themed as follows:

Pangarap
Panaginip
Bangungot
Ilusyon
Imahinasyon
Hiraya
Handuraw-An
Mahika Realistika

Each site will be handled independently by our partner-collaborators and shall hold ten (10) to fifteen (15) minutes of performance duration repeated eight (8) times per show with guides leading audience members to each site/ performance venue.

A commemorative performance shall serve as a summation and conclusion to close the performance. Throughout the performance/s, audience participation is highly encouraged.

This collaboration aims to:

a) Afford artists the liberty and space to express and stage their chosen sub-theme as desired;
b) Break from the convention of a fourth wall;
c) Create minimalistic installation piece/s within a given budget without jeopardizing quality and standard of
performance/s;
d) Devise performance/s where local Filipino work/s can be showcased by both amateur and professional
artists;
e) Encourage audience members to play a part in the progression and revelation of the narrative of vignette/s
and/or episodic sequence/s.
