DOE Says Power Supply Status in Philippines Is Back to Normal

Wazzup Pilipinas!
The Department of Energy (DOE) earnestly calls on the cooperation of the public to undertake energy efficiency and conservation initiatives despite normalization of power supply following the prolonged forced outages of some plants coinciding with other plants’ maintenance shutdown.

Energy Secretary Zenaida Y. Monsada said “In facing this critical phase concerning our power supply, we are counting on the collective effort of everybody to practice energy efficiency and/or by adjusting the usage period of any electric appliances away from the peak hours (i.e., 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.), such as, ironing of clothes, unnecessary use of computers, and even laundering of clothes using washing machine and drier, as any contribution really does matter.” She added that energy consumers are urged to set the thermostat of air-conditioning units installed in their offices and households at 25˚Celsius.

This appeal came as today’s peak demand has reached 9,255 MW breaching the highest recorded peak demand for the third time for this month alone, which can attributed to the hottest El Niño to date.

Meanwhile, the DOE received a latest report from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the system operator, that the power supply status is already back to “normal” as Sual Unit 2 accounting for about 647 MW was already back online at 7:24 p.m. last night. Additionally, the Tiwi Geothermal Plant Unit 6 with a dependable capacity of 43 MW is also back in operation since early yesterday.

The Hero In You And Me

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Philippines celebrates the Araw ng Kagitingan or Day of Valor on April 9. Every year, we honor and pay tribute to the Filipino and American soldiers who laid their lives for our country during World War II. We salute the thousands who have suffered and died defending our country in the historic “Bataan Death March.”

I am proud to have been born and raised in Bataan, in our humble home in Mariveles. Perhaps this is where I developed my love and appreciation for history. Perhaps this is where my passion for heroism grew.

Whenever we hear of the word HERO, we immediately think of bravery and courage, mainly because of the idea that a hero died for the sake of his/her country. Or, perhaps in the modern age, we imagine heroes to have capes, an x-ray vision or a Batmobile in order for them to save the day.

Who is a hero?

Today, being a hero does not only mean having to give up one’s life for the sake of another (although that is still heroism).

Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Tires Fitted to the BMW M4 GTS

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Specially developed versions of the MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires will be the sole original equipment fitment on the new limited special model BMW M4 GTS.

As a track car that is approved for road use, the job of Michelin’s engineers was to design an ultra-high-performance tire which is able to operate safely in a variety of road and track conditions around the world. To this end, the MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for the BMW M4 GTS were produced using not only Bi-Compound asymmetric tread patterns but also an asymmetric casing design. This offers the optimum balance between handling, grip and tire life.

During the development process Michelin produced and tested more than 1,000 prototype tires and 400 special series tires which were tested by both Michelin and BMW M test drivers.

To achieve all of the performance characteristics demanded by BMW M, Michelin’s engineers focused on the interaction between the tire’s tread compounds, architecture and profile, and between the tires on each axle. This ensured not only good road manners in terms of steering effort and response, balance and comfort but also fast lap times and consistent performance on track – with a particular objective to limit heat build-up and wear.
