Get Rich from the Financial Market: Afterthoughts and Realizations

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Are we playing the right game?

I guess that question should be asked every time we make decisions and not only for those that involve our life savings. However, we were told to only invest on money that we are willing to lose. This means we should only take the risk if it involves money that is not critical to our everyday life.

We often become very generous after pay day because we spend our money without considering how we can make the most out of it. Our bonuses or extra month pays quickly disappear right before our eyes and go immediately to the cash registers of shopping malls where we bought branded shirts and jeans, a new watch or jewelry, or the latest model of a smartphone brand.

"Win as much as you can" should have been the game we should be playing but we get lost and confused because we follow the norm and traditional way of going through life. Even though we've heard so much sayings like "think outside the box", we seem to never learn.

Thank you to the duo of Amar Chandnani and Shyan Lim of Money Expo for teaching us a lot of enriching information on how we should manage our money during the Wazzup Pilipinas Get Rich from the Financial Market.

Romualdez Versus Roxas : The Bickering Never Stops

Wazzup Pilipinas!
"Mar (Roxas) never denied saying “You are a Romualdez and the President is an Aquino”. In fact here is the transcript of that part of the meeting : “You have to understand, we are talking very straight here. You have to understand, you are a Romualdez and the President is an Aquino. He is being very careful in just taking over because he does not want anything to be misconstrued.”

This is how I understand it : Because of the family histories of the Aquinos and the Romualdezes, the national government must be CAREFUL and SENSITIVE in “taking over” (i.e. sending an overwhelming number of military and PNP personnel etc.). If the national government just did so, the LGU and others can misconstrue what is happening and say Pnoy and his government are power hungry and just want to retaliate and grab power, given what happened in the past. It is in this context that a letter was requested from the City of Tacloban. The NG wanted the LGU to put in writing/ to formalize that they were agreeable to the efforts and entry of the NG in their city. And precisely, it was to avoid this issue happening today. Notwithstanding, this letter or non-letter did not stop the NG from helping/ moving/ acting. Regarding the video – watch it and be discerning. Listen carefully, and check out who originally posted it." - Ana Ojeda
Misconstrued? Even in the most immense disaster, Pnoy was still worried of being misconstrued at the expense of helping the people of Tacloban? Sorry but let me have this opinion as I am entitled to but this just makes me more sick. I hope if another calamity like this happens to us, the president of our people and the national government will not think twice in sending an overwhelming kind of help just because they are afraid of being misconstrued. Sorry, just had to say something here. - Ian Hermosa

Justin Bieber sang to and played basketball with young survivors of the Philippines' deadliest typhoon Tuesday after he flew into the disaster zone to boost an international relief effort.

Bieber flew unannounced to the central city of Tacloban just over a month after it was devastated by Super Typhoon Haiyan and sang Christmas carols to children at a heavily damaged local school amid tight security, witnesses said.

"He sang 'Holy Night' for the children," said Kate Donovan, a spokeswoman for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), one of three aid agencies expected to benefit from Bieber's charity work.
An AFP reporter said Bieber also played basketball with some of the young boys, and posed for photos."- ABS-CBN News

The act is commendable! With that, I give Justin a thousand warmfull of love and thanksgiving. Philippines will never forget this day.

Art of the Loom: Weaving the Story That Is the Binakul

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Binakul is a textile pattern handwoven on a small scale in Ilocos. Also known as binakel, binakael, or binakol, binakul (meaning “twill” in Ilocano) is a variation of the abel. Binakul can be easily recognized by its uniform, interlocked geometric patterns that result in psychedelic optical art designs, which are said to represent the waves of the sea and, among indigenous peoples of the Cordilleras, protection against malevolent spirits.

On display at Art of the Loom are examples of antique and modern binakul. Designs range from whirlwinds and stars to fans, cat’s pawprints, and capiz windows. Binakul is traditionally used as blankets but, most recently, designers have explored its use in contemporary fashion and personal accessories.

Part of Art of the Loom is a showcase of modern-day applications of binakul, such as binakul and snakeskin clutches fashioned by couturier Pepito Albert, a modern lamp by designer Olivia d’Aboville, boleros by Victoria de Borja, flats by Ruby Diaz Roa, and creations by fashion designer Jojie Lloren especially made for the exhibit.

In support of Republic Act 9512, which aims to promote environmental awareness through education, Epson Precision (Philippines) Inc. Meanwhile, the 2013 elections, pork barrel scam, the Sabah standoff and the Zamboanga crisis were also among the top searches in Yahoo Philippines.

Dyip by Artistang Artlets : Playing the Blame Game

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The conflict between the Philippine government and its people has been evident even before the country gained its independence. Rebellions, revolutions and protests are a big part of what the country came to be.

For their 1st minor production this school year, UST’s Artistang Artlets staged Christian Tordecillas’ play entitled “Dyip” (2006), directed by Jerome Paul Ladan and produced by Therese Renee Janine Zialcita.

It portrayed the ongoing feud between the Philippine government and its citizens. The play started with an old woman in a jeepney who was refused of help in handing in her fare. She then goes on ranting that the Filipinos today are lazy, regardless if they are educated or not. When the driver finally asks her for her fare, she refuses to move so she could hand it, making her one of the lazy Filipinos she ranted about. As the play progressed, two high school students – Dexter, a supporter of rallies and Clara, Dexter’s friend who, unlike him, is against rallies – came inside the jeepney as well.
