Yuchengco Museum Introduces ArtWearAble Exhibit Series

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Yuchengco Museum launches its special exhibit series this July with a group show of jewelry and adornment from today’s most renowned sculptors and designers

Contemporary artists see the human body as a canvas for expression as well as for adornment. By creating pieces for the body, such as jewelry, baubles, ornaments, and regalia, they blur the line between functionality and embellishment, storytelling and shock appeal, and design and aesthetics. In line with its direction to feature Design as Art/Art as Design, the Yuchengco Museum is spearheading a series of exhibits entitled ArtWearAble. Opening on July 16, the ArtWearAble series will showcase jewelry and adornment from some of today’s most recognized sculptors and designers.

Athena: Greek Goddess of Wisdom and War

Wazzup Pilipinas !

Maku Mei Chan, former IV-Berzelius in Pasig City Science High School portrayed the role of Pallas Athena. Athena was the goddess known for her knowledge, arts, and battle strategies. Just like Artemis,  Athena was also a virgin goddess, meaning, she never had a lover or a companion.

There are different versions that narrate how Athena was born. According to the Olympian version of the tale in Athena's birth, she was daughter of Metis (Titaness of wisdom and deep thought) and Zeus. When Metis got pregnant with Athena, Zeus became concerned in a prophecy saying that when he had a son with Metis, this son of him could be more powerful than what he was and could eventually vanquish him. Zeus was afraid that it would happen so he decided to trick Metis, turned her into a fly and to swallow her, so that predicted prophecy won't occur. Nevertheless, Zeus was not aware that Metis was already pregnant at that time. On that time Metis was building a helmet and an armor for her unborn child. This caused Zeus to have a headache and when he couldn't bare anymore the pain, he decided to asked Hephaestus to open his head, and from there Athena came out fully grown-up and armed.

Pallas Athena could be also refer to as a "Girl Athena" or "Maiden Athena".  Some also claimed that the word 'Pallas' was from the word 'pallien' (an archaic term for 'brandish), as Athena has a brandishing sphere. Unlike Ares, even though Athena was the goddess of warfare and battles she was not more into brutality and such, she was more on strategies and techniques on how to win a battle. She was also engaged and associated into handicrafts and art.
Athena was also the guardian deity and patroness of the Greek city of Athens, after competing with Poseidon to have this position. Another myth tells a story that involves Poseidon and Medusa. Back then, Medusa was a beautiful maiden and also was one of the priestess on Athena's temple. Poseidon was so attracted to her and had rape her within the temple. Athena became really mad after seeing it and transformed Medusa to a gorgon and make sure that whoever looked into Medusa's eyes would turn into a stone.
Others said that she was the favorite daughter of Zeus and was allowed to use his weapon even the thunderbolt. Addition facts about her was owl symbolizes her and Olive trees were hers.

Hades : The King of the Underworld

Wazzup Pilipinas !!

Hades,  the God of the underworld.  Jesper John Bautista is the one you see above posing as  Hades. He is a former student of our school and now studying in a university in Manila. I chose Hades because he attracts me the most. I knew that he has a good personality inside but he was used to create bad intentions because of  his jealousy towards his brother Zeus.

Hades has two brothers, Zeus and Poseidon. Zeus is the God of Gods in Mount Olympus. Also he is the one that Hades hate the most because Zeus tricked him to be the God of Underworld instead. Another is his brother Poseidon. He is the God of  Sea. Hades also have three sisters named Demeter, Hestia and Hera.

Japanese Culture vs Philippine Culture

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We Filipinos have our own culture that we've learned from our ancestors same as the Japanese.

Obviously there is a big difference between Japan and Philippine Culture. One of these is when you meet local people, they tend to ask personal questions. But don't get irritated to them, they don't throw those  questions to intimidate or humiliate you. Because it is their way to know you and get to be friends with them. It is good sign for you if you've encounter those people here in Philippines who ask those kind of questions because they are concerned and interested in your personality.

Hera : The Queen of the Olympian Deities

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In this picture, Marie Mendoza, a former student from my school, portrays Hera in the English Culminating Activity last year. I chose Goddess Hera because I adore her strength and Beauty. She also protects women from the hands of their unfaithful husbands.

Hera was the queen of the Olympian deities. She is the daughter of Rhea and Cronus. She is the wife and one of the three sisters of Zeus, who saved her from their father Cronus that swallowed her along with her other siblings. The siblings of Hera are Zeus the God of the sky; Poseidon the lord of the Sea; Hades lord of the Underworld; Hestia the goddess of the Hearth; and Demeter the goddess of the Harvest.

The children of Hera and Zeus are the goddess of youth Hebe, the god of war Ares, the goddess of discord Eris , Enyo, Angelos and Eileithyia . Hera was jealous of Zeus' giving birth to Athena , so she gave birth to Hephaestus. In some stories, Hera was said to give birth to Hephaestus without Zeus. Hera was then disgusted with Hephaestus' ugliness and threw him from Mount Olympus.

She was mainly worshiped as the Goddess of women, marriage and childbirth. She was the protector of women, presiding over marriage and childbirth, and she frequently punished offending husbands. She is associated with the pomegranate, symbol of marital love and fruitfulness. The peacock was sacred to her. In Roman mythology, the goddess Hera is also known as Juno.

Hera was so proud of her beauty and strength. She was very jealous to the beauty of anyone else. She would even punish those women that she thought were too beautiful. She would often turn them into animals. She also disliked the Trojans, since Paris of Troy had not given the prize for beauty to her.

Hera was also notable for her jealousy among Zeus’ lovers and offsprings. She punished her rivals and their children, among both goddesses and mortals, with implacable fury. One of her famous victim was Heracles, the child of Zeus and Alcmene. She placed two serpents in the cradle of Heracles. She even drove the foster-parents of Dionysus mad, and tried to prevent the birth of Apollo and Artemis. Even Zeus usually could not stand up to her.

Hera was particularly worshipped at Argos, though she had important shrines also on Samos and Euboea. Hera is a mature and queenly figure, sometimes portrayed with a scepter or staff.

Tokyo Tower: Japan's Own Eiffel Tower

Wazzup Pilipinas!

There are many beautiful places in Japan. Some examples are Mount Fuji, Himeji Castle, Kamakura, Matsumoto Castle and many more.

From all the beautiful places in Japan, the Tokyo Tower is my favorite. The Tokyo Tower is the second tallest artificial structure in Japan (I'm not really sure what's the tallest tower in Japan). It is approximately 333 meters (1,093 feet) in height before the antenna was damaged by the Tohoku earthquake in 2011. The height of the tower shrank to approximately 315 meters when the antenna was repaired.

It is located in Shiba Park, Minato, Tokyo, Japan. It is said that the construction of the Tokyo Tower started in 1957 and was completed in 1958. One of the things why I like Tokyo Tower the best is because that it looks like the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. Tokyo Tower is white and orange in color.

Some of the Japanese people really love to eat noodles. It is often a substitute for rice meals.
This is an example of a Ramen!

So good right? So lets describe Ramen! Ramen is a noddle dish, consists of Chinese-style wheat noodles served in a meat or fish broth. It is flavored usually by soy sauce or miso with topping like sliced pork, dried seaweed, kamaboko (crab stick), green onions and sometimes they add corn. Ramen is very popular in terms of its deliciousness and of course, because of Naruto series. So try it when you go to Japan! I'm telling you that you wont regret its taste! :)

Dingdong Dantes Surprises Everyone at the Gala Magazine Awards

Wazzup Pilipinas!

So I thought my article headline will be about the Gala Awards honoring the amazing events and its organizers from the past year, but whoah!!!, everyone was caught by surprise when Dingdong Dantes showed up on stage holding the latest Gala magazine issue which features him on the cover.

The Gala magazine cover shows a stunning Award-winning actor Dingdong Dantes with angel wings all spread out plus snakes at both his arms . Really cool !!! Dingdong Dantes graces the July Health and Fitness issue of Gala magazine fresh from his recently released movie "Dance of the Steel Bars." Dingdong shares with the readers how he finds strengths not only in his physical weaknesses, but also in his overall wellness.
I still need to read the magazine to find out exactly what they are depicting in the cover, but I'm betting the glossy pages of Gala magazine with usually excellent photos and content did justice to Dingdong Dantes' appearance in the magazine.
