Asia Pacific Global Village: A Festival Like No Other

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It was a colorful festivity of more than 24 national cultures in one event.

The Asia Pacific Global Village (AP GV) bridged the Asian region and some countries from Oceania and Latin America to celebrate culture and globalization last March 22, 2014 at the Samsung Hall, SM Aura Premier, Taguig City.

As the world’s largest youth network that provides a leadership platform through exchange programs to over 120 countries, AIESEC hosted AP GV to promote cultural diversity and relativism, as well as individual nationalism and tourism.

“We brought all these young delegates from all over Asia to let the people see how diverse the world really is. But more importantly we wanted to highlight the interesting differences of humanity to discover and emphasize that our core isn’t entirely different at all,” AIESEC President Audrey Elumba said.

DOT Region 11 Launches The Big Davao FUN Sale

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Department of Tourism - Davao Regional Office (DOT-XI) launches The Big Davao Fun Sale, bringing together seven of Davao City’s biggest shopping centers in what is touted as the country’s first citywide shopping festival scheduled on 14 March – 16 April 2014. The four-week long sale will offer best-value deals with as much as 80% discount on the widest range of products: from dining, local crafts, fruits, and flowers (14 March - 16 April); health and beauty (16-13 March); electronics and gadgets (24-30 March); home and travel (31 March - 6 April); to fashion and active lifestyle (7-16 April).

The Big Davao Fun Sale will also feature a food festival organized by the Restaurants Association of Davao Inc. where all its 100 restaurant brand members ranging from home-grown and independent restaurants to franchised businesses are expected to join. Shoppers will also have a chance to win raffle prizes such as iPhone 5 units, all-expense paid trip, and cash prizes worth up to P100,000.

“It did not take long for all seven malls to join forces and partner with the DOT in positioning Davao City as a shopping destination in the country. When the country’s largest malls started opening up in the city over the last two years, competition became steep that Dabaweños, close to two million of them, may not suffice to sustain the malls’ viability. This reality in Davao’s retail industry of late caught the attention of all these mall executives to formally organize the Retail Association of Davao and partner with us in conceptualizing The Big Davao Fun Sale to attract foreign tourists and shoppers outside of Davao,” according to DOT Assistant Secretary Arturo P. Boncato, Jr.

Germany Says Mabuhay to Celebrate 60 Years of Friendship with the Philippines

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It was a weekend of celebration that allowed attendees to experience Germany up close and personal in the heart of Metro Manila. Several booths from both sponsors and exhibitors lined up along the stretch of Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City (BGC) to celebrate two days of exciting festivities dubbed as "Mabuhay Germany".

German food like grilled sausages with potato salad, cabbage and schnitzel with Bavarian beers, home-made desserts, cakes and cookies plus other highlights of Germany were showcased last February 22 and 23 to celebrate the 60th year of friendship between the Philippines and Germany.

Each booth had fabulous giveaways and contests that will allow you to win prizes easily. There was a game in one of the booths where you have to spot the differences between two almost identical photos, another booth has a game that will make you guess the word based from a photo and an incomplete word, one booth will require you to hit all the cans using just two balls to win a prize, another one will ask you to shoot golf balls in a miniature golf course, there was even a card game that will make you guess if the next card in the series is higher or lower in number, plus lots of other fun games available in all the booths. I went home with an eco-friendly bag full of souvenirs.

Maharlika Summit 2014: The Re-visioning of Maharlika

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Change is progressive. We cannot deny the fact that today, our nation needs total change and transformation. There is crisis in every aspect of life. Most of our countrymen have been deprived of their basic necessities such as food, clothing, shelter, and medicine. How much more on the human rights, employment, social standing, economics, education, etc. to name a few. To one long forgotten aspect is the enrichment of our culture heritage and the right access to the origin of our country's name.

If we get back to our roots, there is a connecting link from the past that must be patched up to resolve the mystery that has remained—a question of our own identity.

Maharlika Summit 2014 is a Conference-Festival Summit on ‘Maharlika’ to gather together
diverse “Maharlika”-based groups in the country and abroad. It is the Re-visioning of ‘Maharlika’ as Cultural  Metaphor, Folk History & Social Movement for National Identity, Transformation, and Development.

This whole day event will be on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the GT-Toyota Building, Asian Center, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Q.C.

Avril Lavigne Surprises Audience with Chad Kroeger Duet Live at Smart Araneta Coliseum

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Canadian pop-punk sensation Avril Lavigne rocked the Smart Araneta Coliseum last February 17 with her all-time favorite hit songs plus the massive turn-out of fans that were jumping up an down most of the time during her fabulous concert at the big dome. There are many new and younger artists so I never imagined she will still be able to draw a huge crowd.

My wife and I were very lucky to have attended her concert and getting a great seat at the same time. Though the waiting time was almost an hour, we spent it taking "selfies" using our smartphones, eating snacks like pizza, buttered corn bits, potato wedges, and drinking mango fruit shakes.  There were a lot of vendors roaming around so we were tempted to buy a lot from them so we won't get bored waiting and doing nothing. Next time we'll probably eat first before coming to another concert because the prices were like double from what is sold outside. We also spent some time observing the crowd as most of them are around their 20s and younger.

The concert started off with Avril wearing a Hello Kitty-inspired black and pink outfit for her “Hello Kitty”opening song. It was followed by her  2007 single “Girlfriend”  Half-way, Avril shouted “Manila!” then followed it with “Everybody put your hands up! Are you guys ready to have fun tonight?”

Sevenfriday Flash Party at Black Market

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Thank God it’s Sevenfriday.

The name alone tells you that this is something different. Both in design, heft, and form, it communicates a unique aura that is totally different from competing watches in its price bracket, and even higher-end luxury watches. Like the watch itself, a Sevenfriday wearer is sophisticated, successful, and with good taste—but with a rebelliousness of spirit that makes him unafraid to stand out.

While photos of Sevenfriday’s one-of-a-kind timepieces are often sufficient enough to wow even non-collectors, nothing beats the sensory and tactile experience of actually wearing a Sevenfriday watch. Up close and in motion, you can truly appreciate the elegant visual complexity of its multi-faceted dial, and admire the handiwork that defines its finishing. On the wrist, you can feel the grace underneath its massive, industrial modernity. Among bystanders, it elicits both admiration and curiosity—they want to know what you’re wearing, and how they can get one.

Lasy February 7, a Friday, Sevenfriday had their first official flash party launch at Black Market, an underground club on Sabio St. near Chino Roces in Makati City. This flash party established the brand’s presence and soon-to-be prominence in the Philippine fashion scene. Thanks to the efforts of the dynamic Sevenfriday Manila group, they treated Manila’s hip clique to a fun flash party at the Black Market on Sabio St. Chino Roces, Makati City. Also present in this happening event was Sevenfriday founder Dan Niederer himself, who flew in all the way from Switzerland to grace the occasion, as well as renowned UK-based watch blogger Anish Bhatt (@WatchAnish).

Wazzup Pilipinas Discovers Another Case of Misrepresentation

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Once again, Wazzup Pilipinas is a victim of "misrepresentation."
"Just because you are a member of the Wazzup Pilipinas community, it does not mean you are allowed to freely use the blog's name to gain access to events. Our representatives should be duly authorized and assigned by me. You cannot go around claiming you are at an event to represent Wazzup Pilipinas especially when you don't even write and submit to us any article, or even photos, about the event. If you really want to represent us, then contribute something. :)"
A few days ago I discovered that a person was using the name of my blog to gain entrance to events. This discovery happened when I attended an event held at one of the glamorous hotels in Makati. I noticed from the list of confirmed attendees that there was a lady registered under Wazzup Pilipinas. It was even misspelled with two "s" rather than a "z".

When I informed the people at the media registration area that there was this person who wrongfully registered under my blog, I was surprised that the lady in question was actually there right infront of us and has just came in and just signed on the registration list. She even pointed out the wrong spelling on the registration list. She actually looked familiar and I recognized her as a lady I met at a couple of events recently.

Day 1 of the 7107 International Music Festival (7107 IMF) will be a wild night of EDM! Kaskade will headliner the first day of the 7107 IMF with 75 minutes of their sickest house music to probably prove to everyone why he was voted America’s Best DJ in 2011 and 2013. MATA Expo 2014: A Silent but Deadly Fun-Filled Gathering!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Imagine the in and out of the One Esplanade building located at the Mall of Asia Complex filled with people at every corner. That's how huge the turn-out of the MATA Expo 2014 event was - a great number of our deaf brothers gathered together for one whole day of fun-filled activities which includes cosplays, fashion shows, VRS tech exhibit, visual arts, food fest, wrestling, and even a hotdog eating contest, where you get to win P 5,000 as prize, was one of the games, plus a few performances that made a lively and pleasant afternoon for everyone.

According to their official website, MATA Expo is an international social-media enterprise expo and more than just a tradeshow. It is a great opportunity for corporations, organizations, and individuals with multicultural aspects "diversity" to promote their services / products to thousands of people. MATA Expo supports expanding the Multicultural Awareness in the public society.

I was informed that the February 8, 2014 event is happening for the second time in the Philippines and its definitely gone bigger than ever. Aside from the different booths that are situated around the venue (inside and outside One Esplanade area), the catwalk-like stage was at the center of the hall where performers, with their special entertainment numbers, impressed the audience gathered around the said stage .

High Five Yahoo: An Appreciation Night for the Media

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Yahoo Philippines celebrates 5 years of being in the Philippines by showing that they know how to appreciate the people who have helped them spread the word and who else would that be but the media of course.

Last night, Yahoo Philippines had an event called the High Five Yahoo: An Appreciation Night. High Five because they are already 5 years old in the Philippines and it definitely deserved a high five because in such a short time, they have been able to achieve so much.

High Five Yahoo: An Appreciation Night had games and a lot of freebies given away last night. They also held a Rockeoke were people from the media were asked to sing an entire song with a live band. The feeling was surreal. It was awesome.

Cook Out 2 Help Out: Burger-Eating Given a New Meaning!

 Wazzup Pilipinas!
"We wanna take this opportunity to thank everyone who dropped by and purchased the delicious burgers prepared by our partners on this second round of Help Out 2 Cook Out last January 24-26 at Power Plant Mall, Rockwell Center, Makati City! You all gave burger-eating a new meaning! Thank you so much!"
The Sunday afternoon at the Cook Out 2 Help Out event at the Powerplant Mall in Rockwell was an adocacy worth doing again and again. There is such a warm and fuzzy feeling deep inside everytime you sincerely make efforts to help out our fellowmen especially those lives who were affected by the Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) disaster in the Visayan region.

We may not totally rebuild their shattered lives and properties but it is a worthwhile cause that can amount to greater accomplishments if each and everyone of us will continue to make efforts to run similar causes such as these. Tacloban and the rest of the affected areas still have a lot of rehabilitation necessary to bring back its former glory.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to help rebuild the homes damaged by the typhoon.
