Batangas to Pioneer LED Street Lights with CCTV and WiFi in the Country

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Batangas will soon be the first province in the country to bring LED-based smart technology that provides free WiFi while providing CCTV coverage.

The provincial government has entered into an agreement with Korean technology company Korecen which will install 90 LED (Light Emitting Diode) street lights in the Provincial Capitol which are equipped with WiFi internet connectivity and CCTV cameras.

Partnership with a company from Asia’s most advanced country in telecom technology, assures manifold benefits for Batangas: cost-savings and environment-friendly street lighting; free WiFi for BatagueƱos within the coverage radius, and, significant CCTV coverage for traffic management and security.

LED lights consume 70% less electricity than their halogen counterpart for the same degree of brightness. LED lights are also known to last up to 10 times longer.

Korecen’s local partner, Perl Tech Consulting International Inc. (PTCII) will be providing data connectivity for the LED Security Lights with WiFi and CCTV as well as helping the provincial government develop a command center where the CCTV video feeds will be received and monitored.

PTCII plans to use TV White Space (TVWS) technologies to provide wireless Internet connectivity for the WiFi Hotspots as well as the transmission of video feeds from the CCTV cameras embedded in the LED Lights.

PTCII President Roy Del Rosario (in grey blazer) and Joseph Park (In dark blue blazer), Director of Korecen show Batangas Gov. Hermilando "Dodo" Mandanas (in grey polo barong) samples of the Korecen LED street lights with built in CCTV cameras and WiFi Access.
Batangas Governor Hermilando "Dodo" Mandanas said he looks forward to bringing the benefits of the new green and smart technology to his constituents: “ We are not buying anything; there is no extra cost to the province. We are very thankful that they are introducing their products here, if the proof of concept works out, we can implement this for the entire province." Mandanas said.

President and CEO of Korecen, Mr. Suk Oh expressed his enthusiasm at the opportunity to showcase Korean technology. “The 70% savings in energy costs will be immediately felt by the residents of Batangas, CCTVs can allow the province to manage its resources effectively, manage traffic flow, as well as deter crime. WiFi Internet Access for BatangueƱos can provide access to Internet content and services that they can use to improve their lives” Mr. Suk Oh said.

World bank studies have shown that every 10% increase in broadband penetration in an area results in 1.38% increase in gross domestic product (GDP), Internet access , provides better access to educational materials, and information and an essential part of e-commerce allowing locals to expand the markets for their goods and services.

Mr. Roy Del Rosario of PTCII is optimistic that this smart and green initiative of Batangas can be replicated in the entire country. “Korecen and PTCII are confident with the technologies used in this project, if this is adopted for the entire country, this can be a game changer on so many levels, less power consumption, better and faster internet access and with increased demand costs can be lowered even more by manufacturing the devices in the Philipines” Mr. Del Rosario said.

  1. Lights should also stay activated for as long as movement is detected. best outdoor security lights reviews The first type of security lighting is the Dusk to Dawn Lighting which really is an old technique, a household that is brightly lit would be the less likely-house that a burglar would attempt to choose.
