FEU filmmakers reap awards abroad

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Alumni and student filmmakers from Far Eastern University won accolades for their short films in two international film festivals in Spain and the United States.

Ramri Rivota’s “Dalaw” (The Guest) led FEU awardees by winning Honorable Mention in Art Direction for Melbrick Morillo at the Festival de Cinema Internacional de MerdÉ™ de Sueca (C.I.M. Sueca) based in Spain and another Honorable Mention award at the Student World Impact Film Festival 2022 in the US.

Rivota, who graduated with a degree in Communication from FEU, also served as Secretary of the FEU Communication Society.

In “Dalaw,” Grace (Maniecel Jagonob) is forced to stay for a couple of days with her Lola Mary (Wendy Villacorta). During supper, a spoon accidentally falls, which, based on a superstitious belief, leaves them waiting for an unexpected guest.

Aside from Morillo, Rivota, who wrote and directed the film, also got ample support from producer/production manager Shaina Legaspi, assistant director Patricia Rigodon, director of photography/editor Andrew Aquino, assistant director Audrey Vicencio, scriptcon Angelica Altera, casting manager Yvonne Salazar, sound designer Val Manalo, wardrobe/makeup artist Cyrus Barros, and production assistants Donita Borre and Maurich Macatangay.

Organized by the Cultural Association for the Second Law of Thermodynamics in Sueca, Valencia, Spain, C.I.M. Sueca is a global competitive event of “low-budget, independent, or noncommercial cinema.”

“We hope to stimulate countercultural audiovisual initiatives to spotlight independent productions which focus on creativity, medium love and sheer fun over technical requirements leading to a ban from commercial mainstream. We aim to establish the CIM as a meeting venue for the unassimilated, the rebellious, and the free minds of the audiovisual underworld,” CIM Sueca organizer Eugeni Alcañiz said.

“Dalaw,” which was previously a finalist at the Short+Sweet Film Manila and Sinepiyu film festival at FEU, also made it to SWIFF, which got more than 5,400 entries from 120 countries. “We loved the technical creativity and impactful message of your film, Dalaw (The Guest),” SWIFF Director Mark Leschinsky revealed.

Apart from “Dalaw,” other FEU student films such as “Agam” (Thought) by Rose Anne Abellar, “Debut” by Reyna Nicole Paner, “Hutik Sang Mga Kuliglig” by Luke del Castillo, “Kumari” by Angela Aguila and One Carlo Diaz, “On the Shepherd’s Warning” by Lily Gomes, “Pua Iyam” (Coming Out) by Juan Pablo Pineda III, and “Retrospektib” by Daryll Jameson Apaga also received Honorable Mention prizes and were nominated for multiple awards, including Best Short Film and Global Impact Grand Prize.

UPCC x Eunnies Events Management's Thanksgiving Party 2023: Celebrate, Give Thanks and Give Back

Wazzup Pilipinas?!

Let's clap our hands with all our might for the glaring success of our influencers Thanksgiving Party kicking off 2023 with a big bang that should be heard throughout all the influencer communities!

Congratulations to the leads of United Bloggers Philippines, UPCC and Eunnies Events Management for the successful Thanksgiving Party held at the very promising Acienda Del Cielo Laguna on January 12!

We responded to God's call to be His eyes and ears, and enjoyed every minute of our stay and the chance to rekindle our friendships at this very memorable almost two days of thanksgiving event to celebrate once again, among many reasons aside from Giving Thanks and Giving Back (to chosen charities Children with Downsy drone, orphans and PWDs), the blessings we have received as bloggers or influencers plus an opportunity to reinvigorate our collaborations due to lost times brought about by the challenges during the peak of the pandemic from late 2019 to 2021, which were without any doubt the years when we were at our lowest being mostly confined at home and with only very limited access to each other or only seeing each other mostly via Zoom or virtual events. We are definitely so happy to see familiar faces and meet new ones.

Let's also call this as our Kickoff Party for 2023!

Thank you Claire, Adae and Bette aka Eunnies, plus also those  (like Eileen) who accepted or volunteered to help out in whatever way, for making the extra effort inspite of their busy schedule to push through with this event. We also have to thank all the event sponsors, especially those who personally showed up and joined us at the Thanksgiving Night. Sabi nga ni fellow blogger James "Pangmalakasan!" dahil sila na talaga! Wala ng iba pa! Bawi na lang ang iba on the next Thanksgiving next year. Looking forward to 2024!!!

Seriously, you do have to salute those who went all the way to our Calauan, Laguna venue to personally see us, bring in their sponsorships and entertain our inquiries.

For us who traveled 4 hours from Metro Manila to our Calauan, Laguna venue, we deserve a pat on our backs. Thank you also to Harold, our driver, who safely got us to Acienda Del Cielo Laguna and back to our point of origin the next day.

As you could all see from the below photos taken using just my smartphone. These photos would have been more majestic if I still have a professional camera with me. The smartphone camera did not give justice to how remarkable the venue really is. As also mentioned by many, the property is already great as it is but a few more tweaks and enhancements and it would be almost perfect.

We also appreciate the owner of Acienda Del Cielo Laguna, Casa Moriones Catering,  One Feather Kitchen,  Tei Endecia Bendito Viajeros, Evergreen Courtyard Events Place, and the many other brands she owns and manages. Kudos to the catering crew of Casa Moriones for happily accepting my request for them to do a TikTok dance where they obliged with a Paro Paro G. We would also like to thank her staff from both Acienda Del Cielo Laguna and Casa Moriones Catering Services for being very courteous and friendly.

There's also the chef wife and orange-haired husband team of SamLens Cakes and Coffee who quenched our thirst with their mocha, latte and cappuccino, and oh I believe Emiliana aka Milette got to try their dark chocolate cold drink too?

and then there are the adorable ladies of Alta Skin Whitening System, with special mention to the TikToker Ciane for gladly doing the Ting Ting Tang Tang dance that I requested. She is overflowing with confidence, and tells. us that her beauty is all thanks to the Alta products.

Yeah, I love to engage with the people that I meet at events to even do stuff that they don't usually do. The impromptu interviews with my fellow Thanksgiving Party attendees like the hubbie of Adae. Thank you, Sir.. for being a sport!  ... as well as my other fellow bloggers like Nhatz, Armi, Milette's daughter, and those that I haven't yet uploaded their "supporting roles" like Ric, James, Viczy, Adae, and the others.

Congratulations to the ladies who joined the Search for the Gandang influencer that night, especially to the chosen winners, Armi and Claire, though everyone needs to win something for the effort. All of them are beautiful and talented in their own special way.

But wait, there's actually more!.... banked for future content upload so just wait and be surprised!

There's definitely plenty more videos, photos, and other surprises to watch out for. Unti-unti lang and hopefully I won't be tempted to put them all out in one "bagsakan" or "sunod-sunod" na upload. I'm just too excited most of the time to immediately share my coverages as soon as I have free time. Though I do need to remember that overloading our audience with so much content or information, regardless how entertaining or educational they are, could eventually turn into a "nakakaumay" moment.

...and of course, not to forget, our seemingly "tropa" that night, the dynamic owner of Patricia's Food Manufacturing, for her generous sponsorship of Kropeck/Shrimp Crackers with three tasty variants (classic shrimp, garlic shrimp and moringa shrimp) and other Pinoy Favorite Snacks like Shingaling or Noodle Chips, Cassava Chips, and the currently unavailable Banana Chips, that made our event a lot more interesting. I'm using her own terminology of "tropa" because she mentioned it during my interview with her ...where she reiterated that she has to treat her clients and customers as "tropa" to make the relationship more intimate. Her product presentation, and the snack pack unboxing exclusively done for me was highly educational and heartwarming that I kept most of her talk, cut only a few and  uploaded the full video interview eventhough it was lenghty. I felt everyone should hear what she has to say because her advocacy to help farmers, the community and her treatment of customers are without any doubt very noble and inspirational. We need more people like her who puts her customers and employees first and her profit as last priority.

Special shout-out also to the other sponsors and wish you were all also there during the event.

Bayan ni Juan Movement PH,  Airspeed, Cebu Pacific Air, Geiser Maclang, SM Supermalls, Heartstrings,  Nanyang Philippines,  The Aesthetics Studio by Kristine Lucas,  California Nails & Day Spa, Binalot - Times Plaza, Totetally.Official,  Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen Philippines,  Nanyang, Light TV - God's Channel of Blessings,  Malaya Business Insight, Love Viva Cakes and Crafts, F*ART Fashion, Art Form and Function Corrective Chiropractic, QueenLynne KTV Resto Bar And Restaurant,  MC BETO Wellness Beauty Center, Sta.Cecilia MJ OB MIdwife Lying In Clinic, Play with Bella, Triexie’s, Fil-Global Immigration Services Corporation, The Permanent Makeup Academy, Newlfe Southwoods Family Pastor James Magat .... and sorry if I missed the others.

United Bloggers Philippines vision is to see all bloggers united as one. Relatable as most of us who belong to communities would love to see every member harmoniously getting along and collaborating with mutually equal benefits.

We do have a lot to give thanks for all the blessings we have received throughout all the years we've been part of the blogging community. I feel like I'm the luckiest for getting several collab opportunities from previous, current and newer brands where many are referrals from previous clients while others found me through my online presence.

Wazzup Pilipinas has been my outlet to express my creativity and reachnoit to people through my advocacy.

Just like everyone of us, we have callings to become the best versions of ourselves while at the same time empowering others to be equally inspired to be their best and to also pay it forward and serve as angels for others.

All in all, no matter how small or big the events we got invited at, the prizes we won, the tokens we brought home, what is more important is to be always grateful about the many relationships and collaborations we made. Here's hoping the blogging groups or communities that we belong to would bond all of us together as forever friends and special acquaintances.

So here's to making more collabs and new memorable moments that we would again reminisce for the coming years!

As what most of us should say "Let us live by God's calling and symbol of blessings."
Congratulations again to the leads and attendees of this very memorable thanksgiving event. Thank you and God bless!

Please do check the videos that I uploaded on my other social media pages like Facebook, TikTok,.... and soon also on YouTube!

Salamuch to all and see you again on our next Thanksgiving Parties!
