#WalangPasok: Class Cancellations or Suspensions Due to Typhoons, Transport Strikes, Etc.,

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We are all looking for the announcements for the class suspensions, as declared by the Department of Education (DepEd) or the Local Government Units (LGUs) due to #TyphoonXXX.

Who should really give it and we believe the most important question is " When should they give it to be fair and useful enough to our fellow men?"

There's just so many cases of class suspensions being announced LATE ....when every student has already gone to school and then they let the kids suffer in the rain or transport / traffic problem.

Do we need to have a central agency to announce class suspensions other than on a per LGU?  So that people will only refer to a single point person or agency, rather than getting information from their lowly LGU leaders who also rely on PAGASA to be able to decide?

Better safe than sorry should be the case, and whether it rains, floods, ...or not,...the most important is we are all dry and in the comforts of our own homes rather than stranded in the streets.

#WalangPasok Monday, July 9, 2018, due to bad weather.

Ovation Productions Presents John Ford Coley Live in Sta. Rosa Laguna

Wazzup Pilipinas!

American singer John Ford Coley will be performing at the Santa Rosa Sports Coliseum is Santa Rosa, Laguna on August 11, 2018 produced by Ovation Productions.  John is a classically trained pianist, guitarist, actor and author most known for his partnership in the musical duo England Dan & John Ford Coley.

John is not new to Filipinos as he has frequently visited the Philippines due to the massive popularity here of England Dan & John Ford Coley music.  His first visit to Manila was via a three night Valentines weekend concert at the Folk Arts Theater in 2000  where he appeared with the late Jimi Jamison of Survivor, David Pack, and Ambrosia. Rupert Holmes who was initially in the bill was a no-show. Working together in Manila enabled John and Ambrosia to do more frequent appearances and collaborations together in the U.S. on many occasions.  The Valentines concerts were produced by Ovation Productions who brought them back together after a few years to open for the band America at the Araneta Coliseum.

At 16, Coley, along with schoolmate Dan Seals formed an acoustic act simply named England Dan & John Ford Coley. The duo was signed by A&M Records. In 1971, the two moved from Dallas, Texas to Los Angeles where they opened for numerous bands. Their first break came in 1972 with the song Simone. It became a number one hit in Japan and was popular in France. However, Simone did not fare as well in the United States, and the two were released from their contract with A&M after three albums.

Two years later, they acquired another record deal from Atlantic Records and released the song I'd Really Love to See You Tonight. Overall they had four top-ten hits and two top-twenty hits. They were nominated for a Grammy Award and received triple-platinum and gold records and released eight albums; additionally, other recordings were released abroad.

The duo disbanded in 1980. After the passing of England Dan (Danny Seals, brother of Jim Seals of 1970s soft rock duo Seals and Crofts), John’s solo performances have gotten more attention and have given John renewed purpose to continue performing the hits that the duo have been known for (John fondly referred to their act as ‘Mutt & Jeff’ due to their height difference). One major issue for the disbanding of England Dan and John Ford Coley was change of musical direction as England Dan wanted to pursue country music.

England Dan and John Coley classic hits which John continues to perform in his solo concerts include It's Sad To Belong,Soldier In The RainGone Too FarLove Is The Answer, What's Forever For, Broken Hearted Me, I’d Really Like to See You Tonight, Nights are Forever Without You, We’ll Never Have to Say Goodbye Again, What Can I Do With this Broken Heart, Just Tell Me You Love Me. John also does great covers of The Bread’sMake It With You, Dan Fogelberg’sLonger and Leader of the Band, Dan Hill’s Sometimes When We Touch, among many others. In his Santa Rosa Laguna concert, John Ford Coley will have popular OPM singer-songwriter Noel Cabangon as front act.

(John Ford Coley concert tickets are available at SM and online throughwww.smtickets.com. Ticket prices are P3300, 2800, 1800, 800 plus ticketing charges. For info call 02-4702222 or 0917-1495950, 0956-0922765, 049-5113376.)

What You Need to Know Before Buying a Mattress Such as Allswell

Wazzup Pilipinas!

A couple of years back, I had problems with my back and shoulders. For a long time, I depended on painkillers not knowing what the culprit was. It took consultations and research to find the problem and its solution finally. All along my bedding had been the issue.

The reality is, a lot of individuals struggle with aches because they are not sleeping on the right bed. Before settling on a mattress, ensure that it complements your sleep habits and needs.

When shopping for foam mattresses such as Allswell, there are a couple of things you need to know, it’s best to follow a guide or what I have discussed in detail below. They include:

How Hot or Cold Does It Sleep
Although the introduction of memory foam mattresses into the market changed sleep forever, it wasn't without its shortcomings. Traditionally, the viscoelastic foam tends to sleep very hot. The high temperatures will disrupt the quality of your rest.

Therefore, when buying foam such as Allswell, ensure that it’s fitted with features that enhance the cooling effect. You’ll find the top foam brands use gel infused memory foam and covers that will wick the heat away.

Some foam beds are used together with spring hybrids which sleeper cooler. Also look for the foam quality as the best sleep cool, and don’t pose a threat to the environment or your health.

Your Preferred Comfort Feel
Before settling on a mattress with multiple firmness options like Allswell, it's essential to establish your preferred feel. It makes it easier to decide on a bed.

The sleeping position we take at night determines what firmness level is suitable for you. There are three options – Firm, medium-firm and soft mattresses.

The majority of us are comfortable on a mattress with an average firmness rating. However, some back and stomach sleepers will love a firmer surface, while other stomach and side sleepers will enjoy a soft mattress.

Are You Sharing The Bed?
There are aspects that those sharing the bed must consider other than the firmness, and they are:

Edge support
Motion transfer

Edge support is crucial if you're planning on utilizing the entire the bed surface. Foam beds tend to fall short on this feature. You'll find that as you move from the center to the sides of the mattress, the level of support weakens. Identify what the companies have done to enhance the comfort at the sides. It will also prevent you from falling while sleeping.

Motion transfer is important because you don't want to have your sleep interrupted by moving your partner continually. Ensure the bedding has limited motion transfer. Foam performs well on this aspect. You can check out the Allswell review on details of how it performs on motion transfer and edge support.

Does It Have a Warranty Period?
The best brands on the market have a warranty period. They understand that a mattress is a long-term investment and as such ensures that the consumers are protected. Majority of beds have a 10 – 20 years guarantee period.

Although most bedding has been made affordable, they are still costly, and you need protection. Check out the warranty before buying your mattress regardless of whether it's foam, spring or latex.

Sleep Trials and Returns
What I love about the sleep industry is the return policies and sleep trials. When you buy a quality mattress such as Allswell, it comes with a sleep trial period for you to try it out. In case it doesn't complement your sleep needs, you can have it returned and get your money back. Go for companies that offer such perks.

So, your sleep needs, preferences, the warranty, return policy, sleep trial periods and firmness rating are among the key things that you need to know before settling on a mattress such as Allswell.

World Class Philippines Recognizes 2018 Awardees

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Filipinos are known to be really hard-working, innovative and creative as well, and it is but proper that they be rewarded for all the blood, sweat and tears that they had to undergo just to keep their respective business running smooth and efficiently. It is also highly inspiring to receive a recognition to serve as a reminder to keep doing the right thing towards a better and more profitable yet filled with social responsibility.

World Class Philippines was recently held on June 16, 2018 at the luxurious City of Dreams Manila in Paranaque City to recognize the 2018 companies, brands and individuals who excelled in their respective fields or industries. The award-giving recognizes the achievements in the journey towards world class excellence. True enough, it is with great pride to be among fellow businessmen or entrepreneurs who share the vision of working hard and exerting extra effort to become or maintain being a global brand.

Aside from Wazzup Pilipinas receiving a world-class Philippines award in the filed of Social Media, several other brands also got their share of fame as they go up on stage to receive their own new trophy and plaque to be recognized among the many awardees. Going up there makes us very proud to be Filipinos especially while wearing our Filipiniana attires. Of course, barong from Kultura for the gentlemen like Wazzup Pilipinas founder Ross Del Rosario. We're supposed to get a Renee Salud barong, but due to lack of time it was not finish to make it for the gala night. Anyway, there's still more awards coming soon and we'll soon have the opportunity to show off the creation of one of the Philippines icons in fashion.

The gala and awards night, dubbed as the Gabi ng Parangal, was opened by the ceremonial slicing of the cake and wine toasting with the World Class Philippines Council, Guest of Honors, Distinguished Guests and Sponsors. The cake was provided by Mildred's Baked Products, also an awardee in the field of Cakes and Pastries industry.

Notable personalities during the awards night were Businessman Joel Cruz of Aficionado, Celebrity Ara Mina of Hazel Berry Cafe, Ms. Sandy Santos of Farm Cradle, the MMDA Clearing Ops Team with MMDA Spokesperson Celine Pialago and Team Head Col. Edison Bong Nebrija, MMDA Deputy Chairman USec Frisco San Juan, Mr. Hisayuki Nagatome of Junca Salon, and many more CEOs and owners of business establishments in the country.

Performing at the event during dinner time were Empress Tribe, Chorus Vocales, Sindaw Philippines Performing Arts Guild, Wanlu and his Puppets, and also Ara Mina who gave us a couple of song numbers.

Aside from receiving their respective awards, each awardee has the opportunity to mingle with fellow awardees to network for more collaborations. We've met many business owners whom we learned also share the same commitment to our customers to provide them with the best products and services by eagerly listening to their feedback and desires. After all, we exist because of our customers so it is but proper that we work on their "Likes" and we should "Pusuan" their comments and suggestions, even how negative they are, since it is our way to find out how we could improve on our craft. There may be some rude and aggressive remarks, but still we should be grateful that they are voicing out their concerns. We believe that it is a healthy exchange of thoughts and sentiments to help us grow and evolve to our best version of ourselves.

Now that we have received our awards, the journey doesn't end there because we still have to sustain our momentum towards the top. We believe that as long as there are more new businesses coming in or reinventing themselves, we should also keep ourselves updated in order to catch up or not be left behind by what's trending or the latest.

Please see below for other photos from the awards night. More photos are available at our official Facebook page at http://www.Facebook.com/wazzuppilipinas

DOTr- LTO to Start Release of Motor Vehicle Plates Nationwide

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Department of Transportation (DOTr), through the Land Transportation Office (LTO), will release this to automotive dealers and owners nationwide, the plates of motor vehicles registered in July 2016.

DOTr Secretary Arthur P. Tugade will grace the event with LTO Assistant Secretary Edgar C. Galvante, along Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Bong Go, House Committee on Transportation Chairman and Cong. Cesar V. Sarmiento (Catanduanes, Lone District), and Cong. Federico S. Sandoval II (Malabon, Lone District).

Vehicle owners who have registered their vehicle during this period may claim their plates at the Authorized District Office (ADO) or through their respective dealers.

One of Secretary Tugade's marching orders when he assumed his post was to make sure that the problem on the lack of vehicle plates be resolved the soonest possible time.

"Itong problema na ito ay matagal na inireklamo at idinaing ng mga kababayan natin. Sino ba naman ang matutuwa na nagbabayad ka ng tama tapos aabutin ng siyam siyam bago makuha ang plaka. Kaya tuld ng ipinangako ng ating Pangulo, heto ho, inayos namin, heto ho, may plaka na kayo" said Secretary Tugade.

The Transportation Chief further adds that it only took political will to solve a problem that seemed so impossible in the past.

"Unti unti po nating aayusin ang mga problema. Magtiwala lang po kayo sa amin lalo't nagsisipag ng husto ang mga ahensya sa ilalim ng DOTr para guminhawa ang buhay natin. Utos po iyan ni Presidente Duterte kaya sisikapin nating matupad at masolusyunan" said Secretary Tugade.

According to LTO Assistant Secretary Edgar C. Galvante, the plates for the succeeding months of 2016 are already being shipped to the Regional Offices for distribution to the ADOs and dealers.

"Today, we will start the release of the plates nationwide for vehicles registered July 2016," Asec. Galvante said.

As of yesterday, 04 July 2018, the LTO Plate Making Plant has produced a total of 231,332 pairs of motor vehicle plates since it started operating in April. These plates are enough to cover the July to December 2016 requirements.

However, he said that the release of plates will be gradual and will be announced in the succeeding months.

"We ask the vehicle plate owners to wait for their notification. We do not want the owners to rush to the District Offices only to find out that their plates are not yet there," Asec Galvante emphasized.

Motorists who registered their vehicles before 01 July 2016 (2013 to June 2016) will not receive their license plates yet, as these are under a different contract from another supplier. The LTO Chief reiterated that the said contract is still the subject of the Commission on Audit (COA) disallowance.

He however expressed, “We are positive that the COA decision will come out soon.”

On motorcycle (MC) plates, Asec. Galvante said that these will be issued as soon as the Bill for differrently--sized  plates is  enacted.

A Superb Second Place for Alex Rins in Assen

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The ‘Cathedral of Speed’ was fast furious throughout the weekend, and Sunday’s race was no exception. Assen Circuit stayed dry and the pace was hot from the get go.

Alex Rins, from the second row, was able to get a good start and Andrea Iannone soon joined him, also making good progress from his 9th slot start. The pair began to mix it in the leading group, and as the frantic and combattive race got closer with each lap, Alex Rins used his good feeling and form at Turn 5 to great effect; passing several riders there and constantly placing himself in podium contention. The young Spaniard executed a brave move on Marquez for 2nd place with 15 laps to go, proving his desire to bring his GSX-RR back to the podium.

In the final laps he pushed hard once again and completed a great pass on Viñales before the final chicane, fighting all the way to the flag for his second podium of 2018. Meanwhile, Andrea Iannone managed to keep himself in the Top 10 throughout the race, despite struggling with rear grip and movement, but a 2-second penalty for over-running turns 15-18 demoted him to 11th place.

Ken Kawauchi - Technical Manager
“It was an incredible race. This morning Alex’s feeling was not so good, so despite hoping for a good race I couldn’t imagine getting this second position. Andrea had good speed, especially in qualifying, but it didn’t transfer to the race. This is a problem we’ve had for the last few races, so we have to fix it. We’ve had several podiums now, some third positions and some second positions, now we have to go for a win.”

Davide Brivio - Team Manager
“Of course we enjoyed the race a lot, it was really great to have Alex in the middle of the pack, battling with all the top riders. I really liked his spirit, fighting until the end and making a move on the last lap for second position. Assen is a difficult circuit and it’s easy to make mistakes, a few riders did, but he was very good for the whole race - this is the Alex we hope to see every Sunday! Unfortunately Andrea couldn’t do a really good race, he was struggling, especially with movement on the rear. At the beginning he was there in the front group, but then he lost some ground and unfortunately he couldn’t keep contact with the others, despite good lap times. I hope next time we’ll have both riders fast and fighting together. Anyway, we’re happy with this fourth podium.”

Alex Rins
“This morning I was feeling really sick, some problems with my stomach. But the doctors at Clinica Mobile gave me some medicine and it took away the pain, so I must really thank them, because when I felt better I thought ‘wow, this will be my race!’. It was a fantastic battle and I learned a lot of things during the race. Our race pace was good and I was able to enjoy it! There were a lot of over-takes and tight moves, so I was always trying to push to stay with the others and hold my space. I feel very positive with my bike and with my team, we all really want to improve and win. We’ve had a really competitive bike since Qatar, but we’ve been able to change a few things to get extra power and better performance, so I hope I can stay at the top for the next races too. I feel confident for Sachsenring.”

Andrea Iannone
“It was a bit of a difficult race. From the beginning I had problems with the bike moving a lot, so I struggled with this problem. But together with the engineers we’ll try to resolve it. We’ve already tried a few things, but we won’t give up until we find the solution. We have good one-lap pace, but we need to improve race pace and tyre longevity. I was on the limit a lot today and for that reason I made a mistake, but sometimes it’s like this in racing. I’m really happy for Alex, he made a really good race and it shows our potential. I hope I can use all of my potential soon too. Today my pace was good and I was quite close to the front group, so our target for Sachsenring is to try to improve a few things and stay closer to the front.”
