Chinese Prodigy Li Kai Wen Thirsts to Redeem Himself Against Filipino Opponent

Wazzup Pilipinas!

After his much-awaited return to ONE Championship ended in unfortunate fashion three months ago, Chinese martial arts ace Li Kai Wen is preparing to make a definitive statement as he makes his first trip to the cage this 2018.
The man known as “The Underdog” is scheduled to duke it out with the Philippines’ Roel “Akiyama” Rosauro in a three-round featherweight affair on the undercard of ONE: QUEST FOR GOLD, which takes place at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar on 23 February.
“There is no way this bout will go to the judges,” the 22-year-old Tianjin, China resident stated confidently.
“I believe that I am more athletically gifted than my opponent, and I believe that my team of coaches are more diverse. I am prepared for whatever he brings. With that said, I will enter the cage, implement my skills, and impose my will,” Li added.
Back in November, Li graced the ONE Championship cage for the first time in nearly a year and a half when he took on Pakistani featherweight Ahmed “Wolverine” Mujtaba at ONE: IMMORTAL PURSUIT in Singapore.
Although there was plenty of attention on the bout as both talents are young, aggressive, and known to constantly push the pace, it was marred by controversy.
A series of illegal blows to the back of Mujtaba’s head stopped the match in the opening minutes of round one, and ultimately resulted in Li’s disqualification.
While others sink into obscurity after being tainted by a disqualification loss, Li is determined not to fall into that category as he is eager to redeem himself on the global stage.
“My loss last November is sweet,” he said, explaining that the defeat was a blessing in disguise.
“It is sometimes better to feel that. You come to know that you have to work harder and harder. I have learned many things, and now I have more dedication and hunger for this sport,” Li further expounded.
Li stressed that he has his previous outing firmly in the rearview mirror, justifying that the setback has not shaken his confidence
“I was born for tough situations. Deep in my heart, I know I can turn this setback into triumph. I am ready for anything,” he declared.
To hone his craft in martial arts, Li trained at various facilities all across California in the United States as he visited stables such as Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, Millennia MMA in Rancho Cucamonga, and Kings MMA in Huntington Beach to stock his arsenal.
Ready to showcase all that he has learned, Li believes that training in the United States will put his painful defeat behind him.
“I would like to use this opportunity to demonstrate to the fans that I have kept training, and still pursued my dream of becoming a world champion,” he pointed out.
Li was originally slated to face Rodian Menchavez at ONE: QUEST FOR GOLD, but the Filipino veteran was forced to withdraw from the contest due to an injury.
Rosauro accepted the offer to step in for compatriot Menchavez and square off against an up-and-coming martial arts dynamo like Li in his promotional debut.
“Roel Rosauro is my new opponent now, and I need to adopt quickly to his style. But our game plan is still the same, and I will execute that on 23 February,” Li bared.
Because of the world-class training he has been receiving, Li is feeling extra confident, supposing that he holds the advantage in every area of the game.
“I have better Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling. I will outclass him in striking too. There is no pressure. I will step in the cage again, get the win and make the crowd go crazy,” he ended.

Hike in P2P Bus Ridership at MRT-3, An Example of Multi-Sector Cooperation

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The substantial increase in the ridership of point-to-point bus service (P2P) at Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) stations is an example of government agencies and the private sector’s cooperation to achieve a common goal, a transport official today said.

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary for Railways Timothy John Batan said the deployment of the P2P buses to two MRT-3 North Avenue and Quezon Avenue stations during morning rush hour has provided an effective option for MRT-3 passengers while there are still limited train sets running on the train system.

“The bus augmentation program for MRT-3 is a fine example of multi-sector and multi-agency cooperation to realize our common goal of improving public service,” Undersecretary Batan said.

He lauded the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Land Transportation Office, Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group, DOTr Office of Commuter Affairs, and MRT-3 officials and personnel for their initiatives to further move people faster to their destinations.

“The best is yet to come for this bus for MRT-3 service,” the transportation official said, citing the expected increase of the number of running trains after the general overhaul of train sets by the DOTr and MRT-3 management after the Holy Week break.

Assistant Secretary for Road Transport Mark Richmund de Leon, for his part, reported that as of 9 a.m. today, Feb. 14, 2018, 32 buses were deployed to MRT-3 stations going southbound while 13 buses were dispatched to assist northbound commuters.

“The buses made a total of 59 trips, carrying an average of 56 persons each bus, during the morning rush hour, serving more almost 3,400 passengers,” Assistant Secretary de Leon said.

Since the start of the MRT-3 bus augmentation program last February 1 up to February 13, 2018, a total of 521 bus trips, which served 28,825 passengers, were made by the P2P buses.

DENR Secretary Receives Love Letter from Environmental Groups on Valentine’s Day

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Drive for Legal Protection of Benham Bank Continues

Led by four dancing shark mascots, environmentalists visited the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to deliver a special Valentine’s Day love letter to DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu.

The content of the card to protect the Philippine Rise was supported by over 50 institutions and leaders nationwide and asked Sec. Cimatu to declare Benham Bank, the shallowest part of the Philippine Rise, as a ‘no-take’ zone. Delivered along with the letter were over 9000 signatures from Oceana’s online petition to protect the Philippine Rise.

“The full protection and management of the entire 24-million hectare Philippine Rise might take months,” explains Oceana Benham Rise Campaign Team Leader Marianne Saniano. “However, there’s something Sec. Cimatu can do right now – and that is to have the 17,000 hectare Benham Bank declared as a ‘no-take’ zone.” Under the National Integrated Protected Areas System Act, RA-7586, the President can declare certain areas as protected with the endorsement of the DENR Secretary.

The declaration of Benham Bank as a ‘no-take’ zone triggers legal protection of the pristine area from human activity. Spanning 17,000 hectares, it occupies less than 1% of the Philippine Rise. ‘No-take’ zones have been proven to work in other coral reefs and protected areas in the Philippines, such as Apo Reef in Mindoro and the famed Tubbataha Reefs in Palawan.

What is Benham Bank?

Benham Bank is the shallowest part of the Philippine Rise. Portions surveyed by marine scientists in 2014 and 2016 revealed mesophotic or deep-sea reefs with 100% live coral cover – practically unheard of in the Philippines. Seaweed such as Halimeda, which resembles underwater cactus – were recorded to thrive in waters over 40 meters deep. It is recognized as part of the known spawning area for Pacific bluefin tuna, one of the most expensive fish on Earth.

“We expect that the pristine Philippine Rise harbors a variety of healthy marine wildlife populations, including sharks and rays, dolphins and whales and marine turtles. With much of the inner Philippine Seas disturbed, overfished and polluted – the Philippine Rise is a sanctuary for these threatened species. Anything we do there should not be detrimental to the existence of its marine wildlife populations,” added Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines Director AA Yaptinchay.

These findings of the uniqueness and richness of the biodiversity in the area persuaded 196 State parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity to adopt the Philippine Rise as an ecologically and biologically significant area in December 2016.

“We call on our government to immediately declare Benham Bank as a ‘no-take’ zone for the benefit of the Filipino people,” added Pangisda Natin Gawing Tama (PANAGAT), composed of Greenpeace, Oceana Philippines, the World Wide Fund for Nature, Tambuyog, NGOs for Fisheries Reform, Institute for Social Order, Pangisda and other groups. PANAGAT and other groups are celebrating the 3rd International Year of the Reef (IYOR) with Benham Bank as one of its highlighted reefs.

“Would it not be a perfect gift to the nation and the world if President Duterte issues a Presidential Proclamation declaring Benham Bank as a ‘no-take’ zone during this year’s observance of the International Year of the Reef?” says Oceana Philippines Vice President Atty. Gloria Estenzo Ramos. “We shall eagerly await this positive development.”

Proving that they are not just beautiful but also compassionate, the 40 official candidates of Binibining Pilipinas 2018 visited soldiers confined at the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Medical Center in Quezon City on Tuesday, February 13.

With the help of the Makati Medical Center Foundation, the ladies brought cheer to the soldiers at the hospital’s Heroes Ward. Led by Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. chairwoman Mrs. Stella Marquez Araneta, the Binibinis distributed food, clothes and toiletries. They also took time to interact with the soldiers and their families.

“This is an experience the ladies will never forget,” Mrs. Araneta said.

This year’s batch features a medical doctor and several registered nurses who got to talk to the soldiers as if they were their own patients. Candidates from different provinces also had an opportunity to bond with soldiers from their hometowns. Some candidates also prayed with the patients for their recovery.

AFP Health Service Command’s Brig. Gen Edwin Leo Torrelavega also briefed the candidates about the sacrifices these heroes had to make to serve the country and the threats they faced, particularly those who fought terrorists in Marawi.

“The candidates’ visit will boost the morale of the patients. Gagaling sila hindi lamang sa tulong ng magagaling na doktor, gamot o magagandang pasilidad, kailangan din nila ng mataas na morale,” Torrelavega said.

This was just the first charity visit for the ladies who are vying for the chance to represent the Philippines in the most prestigious international pageants. Coronation night is set on March 18, when winners of Miss Universe Philippines, Binibining Pilipinas International, Binibining Pilipinas Grand International, Binibining Pilipinas Supranational, Binibining Pilipinas Globe and Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental will be crowned.

Feng Shui Guide to Creating Spaces That Will Take You Places

Wazzup Pilipinas!

As the Year of the Brown Dog ushers in with energy, presenting metal as its wealth element, investments associated with real estate and construction are likely to be favourable according to Feng Shui experts.

If you’re thinking of investing in a condo, considering Feng Shui principles can also help guide you before making that final decision.  Feng Shui, which means wind-water, harps on achieving harmony between energy and space within a given environment. Moreover, it offers a sensible and practical way of creating nurturing spaces that make you feel good and inspired.  Keep these insights in mind while exploring your condo options.

Mind the site. For Feng Shui practitioners, one of the most auspicious sites for a residential building is within the belly of the dragon, a place that’s higher than plains but below strong winds, striking a balance between wind and water.  Symbolically, the belly is considered the center of the dragon – a place of sustenance and nourishment. People living in the area are in the good position to prosper, accumulate wealth and attract luck.

Check the unit.  A unit located in the higher floors is highly associated with good fortune because you get a lighter energy when there are fewer condo units encumbering your space. Also, natural light is more available in top floors, bringing more positive energy. Ideally, go for units that are shaped regularly and evoke balance.  Hallways and elevators should be wide enough and obstruction-free as it is considered an internal gateway of energy.

Feel the flow.  Feng Shui stresses the importance of organizing spaces so that positive energy flows and circulates. Space should be properly divided but sans barriers that restrict the stream of energy. Open, uncluttered areas are endorsed because cramped corners trap stagnant energy which begets negativity and malaise as it prevents life to flow freely.

One property that thoughtfully planned every space is One Wilson Square by Federal Land Inc., one of the country’s prime real estate developers.  Rising in Greenhills, San Juan City, identified by Feng Shui practitioners as the belly of the dragon, One Wilson Square is close to the intersection of EDSA and Ortigas. Its strategic location brings residents minutes away from top-notch schools as well as Greenhills’ shops, restaurants and entertainment hubs.  Located at the corner of Ortigas and Wilson streets, it provides easy access to Quezon City, Manila, Mandaluyong, Makati and the Pasig areas.

One Wilson Square is the ideal dwelling for building personal skylines.  Every unit has a deck that opens up to the horizon. This residence also features amenities for every facet of life - there’s a space for families’ relaxation, fitness, gatherings, including spaces to conduct business and a patch of green to commune and reflect.

Indeed, living in inspiring spaces will give you the energy to achieve and go places. Know more about One Wilson Square by visiting https://federalland.ph/.

Yamaha Time 2 Rev Featured Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales

Wazzup Pilipinas!

No more than a year ago the Philippines witnessed the legend, Valentino Rossi, alongside his newest teammate, Maverick Vinales. A tandem that proved to be formidable in the MotoGP.

After a season together, they kick off their newest campaign with a trip the Philippines. The sunny climate, warmth of the locals, and relentless support of Filipinos is a welcome boost.

Their first stop is the newly minted “Yamaha Monumento Station”. It’s fitting that Yamaha’s most influential racers introduce this landmark of passion. This is the first ever Yamaha train station, an icon for inspiring passion in every Filipino. Their visit may be brief but it won’t be easily forgotten. They leave behind their own “Yamaha Star” and can be seen by anyone who goes to the station.

Next, the 2 racers met with their legion of fans in the 10th Avenue of Caloocan. It was a Yamaha festival that covered over three blocks and welcomed all kinds of riders, enthusiasts, and admirers. “The Doctor” and “Top Gun” were showered with love on Valentine’s Day from loyal fans. They gave love back by giving a special recognition to the Yamaha Grand Prix riders who won the overall social media votes for Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, as well as the Wild Card entries. They also gave away signed t-shirts, and enthusiastically answered questions from their audience.

After enjoying some time with their fans, Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales went to the Seda Hotel in Vertis North for their Press Conference. This was also the venue where they met with dealers from Yamaha and shared their own thoughts about the different products of Yamaha and how the brand fuels the dreams of future riders in the country.

It was a long day for both but it was full of joy and passion. No doubt, it will be a cherished experience. One that they carry in their hearts as they begin a new chapter of the MotoGP season.

But the departure of the riders was only the halfway point of Yamaha’s Time 2 Rev. Yamaha introduces its latest campaign “We are Mio” spearheaded by their Automatic Motorcycles. The All New Mio Sporty, Mio I 125, Mio Soul I 125, and Mio Aerox aren’t just machines. They are vessels that represent the culture of riding, where you never go off trend no matter your age.

Each AT is represented by Miollennials; Boy Band PH, Nadine Lustre, Matteo Guidicelli, and Drew Arellano. They embody passion for riding in every kind of lifestyle. The campaign was introduced in the Seda Hotel for the Yamaha dealers. All of whom were whisked to Yamaha Monumento station together with the Miollennials.

To culminate the activity, it was a party at the 10th avenue for all in attendance. It was the first public introduction of the campaign and its ambassadors. The main theme? To be unstoppable with the Yamaha Mio.

An entire day was dedicated to enriching the love for riding. It was valentines after all, and all forms of affection was welcome on a day. For Yamaha it wasn’t just about the motorcycles, the riders, the ambassadors, it was all about revving your heart.

Fortinet Demonstrates Integrated Security and Threat Protection for the Connected Car of the Future at CES 2018

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Fortinet Collaborates with Renesas on Cutting-Edge Cybersecurity Solution to Secure Connected Car Domains, Including Powertrain, Telematics and Infotainment Systems

Fortinet, a global leader in broad, integrated and automated cybersecurity, today announced it is exhibiting advanced cybersecurity capabilities for the connected car of the future at CES 2018in the Renesas Advanced and Autonomous Test Track and Future Ready Solutions Showcase, January 9 – 12 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

·         Developed in collaboration with Renesas Electronics, the cybersecurity prototype will demonstrate how the Fortinet FortiOS security operating system integrates with Renesas’ R-Car H3 system-on-chip (SoC) to secure vehicle network domains, cloud-based services and applications.

  • Fortinet and Renesas have created mock cyber breaches on a prototype connected car at CES, including intrusion prevention system (IPS) attacks and a DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks to showcase the effectiveness of automated, integrated security to protect drivers from intruders taking control of their vehicle or applications.

Automated Security is Foundational for Technology and Safety Systems of the Connected Car
By 2025, it is projected that there will be 300 million connected cars up from 37 million in 2016, with annual revenues for connected car equipment and associated services to surpass $250 billion.[i] Key factors driving the global connected car market are increasing demand for self-driving features, implementation of data-driven decision-making, and connectivity solutions within the vehicle, such as access to smartphone features, music on-demand, Internet connectivity and infotainment in vehicles.

A connected car is equipped with Internet access and a wireless local area network (LAN), allowing drivers to share Internet connectivity with other devices both inside and outside the vehicle. To provide suitable cyber protection and ensure consumer confidence, automobile manufacturers need to design and deploy technology with a security-first mindset. Security systems need to span across communications standards, devices, and networks. They also need to extend visibility, interaction and control beyond a single vehicle to include the larger transportation ecosystem, including road and traffic control systems.
Connected cars require several different security solutions working as a single system and therefore need to include strategic segmentation of key function domains, such as powertrain, telematics and infotainment to ensure that threats are automatically contained and mitigated. Another key requirement is a real-time threat update system, like Fortinet’s FortiGuard Labs, where the latest vulnerability and threat information can be fed to the vehicle to provide effective and automated protection. This also includes connecting back to a cloud network to share and correlate events to receive timely security patches and updates.

Fortinet and Renesas Demonstrate Security for Connected Car Networks
Fortinet and Renesas have collaborated on a prototype security solution that addresses the major cybersecurity risks in today’s connected car network architecture. Recent cyber breaches demonstrate the urgent need for integrated security for these increasingly sophisticated vehicle networks, including the2015 Jeep Cherokee hack where a hacker group wirelessly broke into the vehicle and electronically controlled vital functions, as well as the more recent Tesla Model S hack of its CAN bus, interfering with the car’s brakes, door locks, and dashboard computer from 12 miles away.

“Connected vehicles are the next major technology innovation disrupting the automotive industry. With 3D mapping, sensor processing, smart device integration, cloud-based services, advanced LAN/CAN networks, and autonomous driving defining the connected car of the future, the cyber risks are enormous. And with IoT devices connecting to the car network to access content and applications, the attack surface is even larger. Integrated security is paramount for the safety and consumer confidence in the connected car. Fortinet is extending its global leadership in network security to the automotive industry as manufacturers begin to develop vehicles that require automated security with real-time threat intelligence and strategic segmentation to protect the car’s complex architecture. We are excited to collaborate with Renesas and demonstrate secure network solutions that meet the unique requirements of the evolving automotive operating environment at CES.” Said Michael Xie, founder, president and chief technology officer at Fortinet.

At CES, Fortinet and Renesas will show how the Fortinet Security Fabric technology running on the R-Car H3 SoC provides security policy management and automated protection of the powertrain and communication domains in the vehicle, including the LTE module, vehicle-to-vehicle communications module, the wireless access point, the engine control module and more. Supported by the on-chip security functions of the Renesas R-Car H3, Fortinet secures the communications between the domains and sets policies to limit access between certain domains to mitigate and control potential cyber threats. Specific demonstrations of mock IPS and DDoS cyber attacks will show how FortiOS automatically secures the data transmitted from a public cloud service to the in-car entertainment system.
