Modern Jeep Prototypes, Powered by beep Fare Collection System

AF Payments Inc., the Ayala-Metro Pacific consortium behind beep™ card, brings its automated fare collection system to the 1st Philippine Auto Parts Expo (PhilAPEX). Several of the modern jeepney prototypes on display at the event were furnished with a working beep™ card reader that employs a tap in-tap out scheme. Passengers tap in upon riding, and tap out before alighting. The fare is calculated based on the distance traveled. This is the first ever automated fare collection solution made for jeepneys.

The jeepney prototypes on exhibit are new models that already comply with the Department of Transportation’s jeepney modernization mandate.

Peter Maher, President of AF Payments, said ”We are ready to support the Dept of Transportation’s PUJ modernization program.  We have developed a beep card service that is affordable to jeepney operators and will surely be appreciated by commuters in Metro Manila who have already purchased 4 million beep cards.”

PhilAPEX 2017 was held on October 12-13 at the Philippine Trade Training Center in Pasay City. It was organized by the Department of Trade and Industry, Board of Investments, Department of Transportation, Philippine Parts Maker Association Inc., Mitsubishi Motors, Toyota, and the Automotive Body Manufacturers Association of the Philippines Inc.

SUMMARY OF SITES
Imahinasyon as a monologue was written as a personal piece dealing with the conscious mind and how it speaks of and with itself, arguing and agreeing with itself all at the same time, happening all in a day. And within this day is the simultaneous representation of the mundane day-to-day routine of life, and the deeper subconscious that continually seeks authentication by intermittently making its presence felt.

While there is no traditional narrative in the text, the existence of human layers are woven into the site. As a whole, Imahinasyon may be best described
as an experimental moving installation.

Handuraw-an. "Kwentong Labi" is an art installation that utilizes mixed media such as film, performance and music. It is a journey into the subconscious of a woman battling with her inner conflicts and grief. This Handuraw-an site narrates two monologues of a man and a woman; both reminiscent of their experiences in love, be it victory or defeat.

Pangarap. In their adult life, three childhood friends meet again and reveal each other’s journey towards achieving
their dream.

Ilusyon. A devised performance that critques the current “Father of our nation” and his “sons".

Majika Realistika. A satirical performance that critiques how Filipinos are lead like lamb by a so-called “shepherd” on television. Furthermore, it challenges the audience to do something about women’s rights.

Hiraya. HonesTea Shop provides a safe haven for those people who are currently suffering from depression. The shop aims to instill into its customers that in this challenging life you are not alone.

Bangungot is a 12-minute travelogue performance inspired by the story of slain transwoman Jennifer Laude.

Fictionalized by the U.P. Repertory Company, it becomes a story of two siblings abused by a domineering patriarch that eventually led to their escape into a more hellish sphere of the prostitution ring, and would lead one of them into the hands of another abusive man.

Panaginip. Why are there people who don’t want to wake up from their dream? Is it because of the happiness that it brings? All that you want is given? Is it the same with Elsa so that she can feel happy or she just wants to look back in the past and stay there forever?he personal experiences and news about Oplan Tokhang.

Majika Realistika. A satirical performance that critiques how Filipinos are lead like lamb by a so-called “shepherd” on television. Furthermore, it challenges the audience to do something about women’s rights.

This production will be in partnership with collaborating theatre companies, organizations, community groups and
freelance artists from different backgrounds; each with a designated sub-theme discussing a degree and/or state
experienced under the theme Dream Sequences. There will be eight (8) sites dubbed and sub-themed as follows:

Pangarap
Panaginip
Bangungot
Ilusyon
Imahinasyon
Hiraya
Handuraw-An
Mahika Realistika

Each site will be handled independently by our partner-collaborators and shall hold ten (10) to fifteen (15) minutes of performance duration repeated eight (8) times per show with guides leading audience members to each site/ performance venue.

A commemorative performance shall serve as a summation and conclusion to close the performance. Throughout the performance/s, audience participation is highly encouraged.

This collaboration aims to:

a) Afford artists the liberty and space to express and stage their chosen sub-theme as desired;
b) Break from the convention of a fourth wall;
c) Create minimalistic installation piece/s within a given budget without jeopardizing quality and standard of
performance/s;
d) Devise performance/s where local Filipino work/s can be showcased by both amateur and professional
artists;
e) Encourage audience members to play a part in the progression and revelation of the narrative of vignette/s
and/or episodic sequence/s.

Akbayan Urges LGUs: Drop the Dropbox

Akbayan is urging local government units (LGUs) to #DropTheBox and boycott the implementation of Tokhang dropboxes that will only increase the number of killings under Duterte’s policy-to-kill.

The new DILG memorandum installing Tokhang dropboxes in barangays to fish out accused drug suspects puts the burden of implementation to the LGUs.

“The Tokhang dropboxes make ordinary people participants of Duterte's bloodlust. It puts blood on their hands by breeding distrust in the neighborhood,” Akbayan President Machris Cabreros said. “LGUs should not give their constituents the cruel option to submit names of people to target for killings.”

“Thousands of people have been killed ever since President Duterte started his War on Drugs, most of which cannot afford a day in court. The Tokhang dropbox is a raffle draw for killings,” Cabreros said. “The more entries people send, the more chances of killings.”

Akbayan is urging LGUs around the country to not comply with the DILG and PNP in bringing the deadly drop boxes to their barangays. Akbayan is demanding DILG to rescind the memorandum implementing the drop box which violates a number of constitutional rights.

“Let’s hold no illusion that the Tokhang boxes will keep our barangays safe from both the killings and the drug menace. LGUs should address the drug problem by healing and not killing,” Cabreros added.

One World Champions Deuard Folayang and Martin Nguyen Face-Off in Manila

The largest sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), in conjunction with Caltex Havoline™, recently held the official ONE: LEGENDS OF THE WORLD City Skyline Face-Off on Tuesday, 10 October, at the City Garden GRAND Building in Makati City, Philippines. Present at the event were main event competitors, reigning ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang and newly-crowned ONE Featherweight World Champion Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen.

Folayang and Nguyen are scheduled to do battle at the center of the ONE Championship cage in a main event bout at ONE: LEGENDS OF THE WORLD, set for 10 November at the iconic Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.

Ticket information for ONE: LEGENDS OF THE WORLD is available at www.onefc.com.

Official photos for the ONE: LEGENDS OF THE WORLD City Skyline Face-Off available at this link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BxHVlFU0lKiIZVNWd25TYmtWa1U?usp=sharing

Lennard Kwek, Asia Pacific Marketing Manager, Chevron, stated: "We are excited at the possibilities and the opportunities for growth in both companies. The values of ONE and the strength of the athletes, resonate deeply to the core of Havoline on genuine strength. Caltex Havoline believes that, just like the bouts in the ONE Championship cage, our vehicles often face difficult conditions on the road. But with a proven warrior against friction, wear and sludge deposits, you can be sure that you will have a smooth and worry-free ride.”

Eduard Folayang, ONE Lightweight World Champion, stated: “Martin [Nguyen] is a great martial artist and an amazing competitor. He has earned the highest degree of my respect. There is absolutely no chance that I am coming into this bout underestimating him. I am prepared for the best Martin Nguyen possible, one that has no weaknesses. This bout will be talked about long after it is finished, as two champions face-off inside the cage. I live for these challenges, and I am motivated for victory, for the pride and honor of the Philippines.”

Martin Nguyen, ONE Featherweight World Champion, stated: “I like Eduard [Folayang]. I said to myself I did not want to compete against someone I like and take away their glory, but opportunities like this do not come around too often. And, if I refused to do this, someone else was going to compete against him and take his glory. So it is strictly business. I am in a super bout for the first time ever in ONE Championship history to become a two-division champion. This match is not going to go the distance.”

Eduard “Landslide” Folayang of the legendary Team Lakay in Baguio City is one of the Philippines’ most experienced martial artists. After nearly a decade of competing in various promotions, Folayang has amassed an impressive 18-5 professional record. The 33-year-old veteran is currently riding a four-bout winning streak against high-profile opponents, including an emphatic technical knockout victory over Japanese legend Shinya Aoki to capture the ONE Lightweight World Championship in 2016. Showcasing a highly-improved wrestling and grappling arsenal, Folayang thoroughly defeated top challenger Ev Ting in his first title defense last April. Now set to return to the ONE Championship cage in Manila, Folayang will face ONE Featherweight World Champion Martin Nguyen in a cross-divisional showdown.

28-year-old Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen of Sydney, Australia, is a highly-skilled finisher and one of the most talented featherweights in martial arts. In his most recent bout, Nguyen stepped into the ONE Championship cage last August, scoring the biggest victory of his career when he stopped former undefeated featherweight champion Marat “Cobra” Gafurov in Kuala Lumpur to capture the ONE Featherweight World Championship. Sporting a 9-1 professional record, Nguyen’s all-around skill set allows him to compete at the highest level of competition. In a much-anticipated battle between division champions, Nguyen is set to face the Philippines’ Eduard Folayang in Manila for the Filipino’s coveted ONE Lightweight World Championship.

Fly Me to the Moon All Set to Open on October 13

Palanca Hall of Fame Writer Rody Vera's New Play

Artist Playground in cooperation with Japan Foundation’s latest production “FLY ME TO THE MOON,” an original play penned by Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature Hall of Famer RODY VERA is all set to open on October 13, 2017 at ARTIST PLAYGROUND 112 West Avenue, Quezon City.

Directed by PAUL JAKE PAULE, “ FLY ME TO THE MOON” is about the story of Melanie who embarks on a journey to Japan to help her family make ends meet. Using her charm, she boards on a ship full of flesh-hungry sea crew, and finds comfort in Jo, a karayuki-san who longs for her one true love Ibrahim. On the ship, the two draw parallels between their lives as they unfold their own stories. Soon, Melanie and Jo part ways to follow their own pavement, but still keep a piece of each other’s heart.

The cast and character descriptions of ‘FLY ME TO THE MOON’ are as follows:
FATIMA CADIZ and DEA FORMACIL shall alternately play the role of Karayuki.

Jo or Karayuki-san has suffered like all the other girls in their province, Amakusa. She became a sex slave at her young age in a neighboring country to comply with their country’s need for a female soldier.

Unfortunately while she was in this foreign country serving men, she fell in love with Ibrahim without her realizing that it is love. The reason why she doesn’t know is because she never received love before even from her family who sold her just to make her brother a man. And because of love, she died.

Karayuki-san believes that people love, people die. That was the love that she had experienced but she’s still hopeful that even they weren’t able to be together in this life, they will still have a chance to be together in their next life of the afterlife.

ALDY CADUPAY, AI HOSE KI and XOSH ARDIO shall alternately essay the role of Melanie.

Melanie is confident, strong-willed and positive in life. His story is like the story of every gay in our country. They want to go to Japan or other country in search of a better life and also the surgery that could make them a real woman. They are willing to take a risk just to achieve their goal. In Melanie’s case, he even snuck in a ship even though he’s not sure what’s waiting for him.

CLIFFORD GONZALES, AR AR RAMILO and BJ OCAMPO shall alternately play the role of Ibrahim /Cat.

A muslim man who fell in love with Karayuki san while she was in Sandakan Brothel No. 3. We can tell that Ibrahim might be a passionate man but due to this love, there is a possibility that he died and reincarnated to a cat.

Jo said that he moves like a cat. He sneaks just to see her and that’s the reason why the cat is still with her soul/ghost. It might be waiting for them to reunite in the future as different people or in afterlife.

MANU GALLARDO and JUN NAYRA shall alternately play the role of the Captain.
The Captain is depicted as a cruel man but he’s just like any man who felt like he’s trapped in the vast ocean with nothing but sharks as his companion. He’s even willing to have sex with a man just to fulfill his lust for human flesh.

The Players, Artist Playground’s very own group of artists shall play various roles in the ensemble, namely: Josh Adamero, Lliwel Agita, Aljean Badar, Leonardo Bania, Searl Escalona, Julia Garcia, Alleah Hugo, Vincent Macapobre, Reyn Mercado, Ariel Pan, Christopher Perez, Joyan Que, Beaulah Mae Saycon, Christian Silang, and Fernilyn Toladro.

The Artistic Team of FLY ME TO THE MOON is led by Paul Jake Paule (Director), Roeder Camañag (Artistic Director & Choreographer), Jesse Lucas (Music By), Mailes Kanapi (Artistic Consultant) Jeffrey Camañag (Production Design Consultant) Searl Escalona (Assistant Director) John Mark Yap (Lay-out Designer & Projection Design) Aly Mondonedo (Photographer) Sem Pabion & Princess Tuason (Dramaturg) Rowena Jarito(Sound Designer), Kimberly Claire Somoza (Lighting Designer) and Reynoso Mercado (Production Designer).

The Production Team OF FLY ME TO THE MOON is led by Kimberly Claire Somoza (Production Manager), Jessa Bisnar (Assistant PM), Joselito “Toots” Tolentino (Publicist), Mary Rose Agapito (Stage Manager), Ariel Pan (Deputy Stage Manager), Beaulah Mae Saycon (ASM ) , Star Alferez & Anna Clarisa Timbal (Spinner), Alex Gallo & Alleah Hugo (Costume Mistress) Julia Garcia & Christian Silang (Prop head), Fernilyn Toladro (Sponsorship) and Set team : Glenn Caspe, Josh Adamero and Joyan Kiu.

‘FLY ME TO THE MOON’ will run from October 13 – 22, 2017.

DOE to Develop PH as LNG Hub

The Department of Energy (DOE) today bared plans to develop the domestic natural gas industry, and eventually transform the Philippines as the liquefied natural gas (LNG) trading and trans-shipment hub in the Asia-Pacific Region.

According to Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi, the DOE is "already preparing the necessary policies as we approach the depletion of indigenous natural gas supply from Malampaya by 2024.”

“By diversifying our energy mix through LNG, we are ensuring a secure and stable supply of energy. This is a priority,” Cusi pointed out.

The DOE public consultation was held Tuesday (10 October) at its headquarters in BGC, Taguig City to fine-tune the draft Philippine Natural Gas Regulation (PNGR), the policy framework that will guide the development of the natural gas industry in the country.

The DOE presented the draft PNGR in accordance with several key considerations:

1. The expected drop in indigenous natural gas supply coming from Malampaya gas field by 2024.

2. The potential of LNG to cover the increasing mid-merit to peaking demand of the Philippines which is expected to require around 18,500 megawatts (MW) by 2040 based on the Philippine Energy Plan (PEP).

3. The potential of LNG/natural gas-fired power plants in complementing renewables which are poised to increase from 5,000 MW to 15,000 MW by 2035.

4. The potential of LNG to replace diesel-fired power plants in off-grid areas.

5. The expected non-power demand for natural gas from the commercial, industrial, transportation, and even household sectors.

The Philippine Natural Gas Regulation (PNGR) public consultation was attended by interested local and foreign stakeholders Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc., Aboitiz Power, CN Energy, Energy Development Corporation, CNOOC, Embassy of Australia, Embassy of Singapore, Embassy of Japan, Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Energy World Corporated Ltd., Gas Power Solutions, GE Philippines, Inc., IE Singapore, Japan Bank for International Cooperation, JGC Philippines Inc., JSK Gas Corporation, JSK Holdings, KEPCO Philippines Corporation, Lantau Group, Marubeni Philippines Corporation, Metro Pacific Investments, Mitsui & Co.
